Plan at a glance

Cliffside architecture and the visitor centre

Cangyan Mountain is in Cangyan Mountain Town, Jingxing County. Start at the visitor centre and take the free shuttle to the ticket checkpoint at the foot of the mountain. Bridge Tower Hall spans a stone bridge across the cliff and is the main historic building; Fuqing Temple and Bijian Lingtan (碧涧灵檀), an ancient white-sandalwood grove, are the other principal stops.

Admission, cable car and opening hours

The reference adult admission price is RMB 65. Student and senior discounts for visitors aged 60 or over are handled at the ticket office. The cable car costs extra; check the posted one-way and return fares and what a return ticket includes. The scenic area usually opens 08:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Check the day’s notice before travelling.

How long to spend

The short route, taking the cable car up and walking down past Bridge Tower Hall, takes about 2–3 hours. Allow 4–5 hours to walk up from the foot of the mountain, continue to the summit after Bridge Tower Hall and take the cable car down. There are still steps and mountain paths; wear walking shoes. Visitors with older adults or children may prefer taking the cable car uphill.

Choose your visit

Bridge Tower Hall and Fuqing Temple

Bridge Tower Hall stands on a Sui-dynasty stone bridge across a cliff about 100 metres high. It is a main historic building and a filming location for *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* and *Journey to the West*. Fuqing Temple dates to the Sui dynasty; its murals and statues make a natural pairing with Bridge Tower Hall.

Bijian Lingtan, Preaching Terrace and Release Pond

Bijian Lingtan is in the gorge, among old trees, streams and rocks suited to a slower walk. Preaching Terrace looks across the mountains, while the Release Pond is a place to photograph lotus flowers and the reflection of Bridge Tower Hall. For a full view of the hall, use the opposite-side trail after reaching the summit, where the valley and building can fit in one frame.

Performances and who will enjoy them

The scenic area has costumed characters themed on *Journey to the West* and acrobatics such as tightrope walking. These are usually free, though popular holiday performances may have queues. Visitors interested in historic buildings, film locations and easy walks, including families with older adults or children, may prefer this site. Those looking for sustained hiking should choose the 4–5-hour route.

Build your day

A 2–3-hour cable-car route

Take the free shuttle from the visitor centre to the ticket checkpoint, then ride the cable car uphill. Visit Nanyang Princess Shrine (南阳公主祠) and Jade Emperor Peak first, then walk down to Bridge Tower Hall and continue on foot to the exit. This route uses the cable car for most of the climb and makes Bridge Tower Hall the main stop on the descent; it suits visitors short on time or travelling with older adults and children.

A 4–5-hour hiking route

Walk uphill from the foot of the mountain, passing Bijian Lingtan and the temples. Continue to the summit after Bridge Tower Hall, then take the cable car down. Check the cable car’s operating status and last departure before descending. This route combines the gorge, historic buildings and Bridge Tower Hall, but involves more walking.

Add photography and performances

Photograph the full view of Bridge Tower Hall from the opposite-side trail after reaching the summit. Visit Preaching Terrace on the open summit section and the Release Pond on the way down. If a costumed-character or acrobatic performance is scheduled, adjust your stop order around it. Holiday queues can affect timing, so keep the cable car’s last departure and closing time in mind.

Get there

Driving and the visitor centre

The drive from central Shijiazhuang takes about 1.5 hours. Navigate to “Cangyan Mountain Visitor Centre”; parking costs about RMB 10 per day. There are charging points on the first floor of the visitor centre, and parking is free while charging. Take the free shuttle from the centre to the ticket checkpoint at the foot of the mountain.

Public transport and return trip

From Shijiazhuang North Bus Station, take a coach to Jingxing Bus Station and transfer to a local bus for Cangyan Mountain. Check schedules, fares and connection times before setting out; ask the driver about the last return bus when you travel out. Rideshare fares depend on the pick-up point and traffic. Confirm the total fare in advance, as cars may be hard to find for the return trip.

Know before you go

Opening, tickets and mountain paths

The cable car is charged separately. Check the ticket office for one-way and return fares and what is included, and confirm the day’s opening hours and last cable-car departure. The overall climb is moderate, but steps remain between Bridge Tower Hall and the summit; bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Food, pets and facilities

Dining options at the summit are limited, so bring water and a small amount of food. Rules for bringing pets into the scenic area and onto the cable car may differ; check with the site before setting out. The flower-themed chair ride and other modern attractions are different from the historic buildings; choose them according to your interests. Follow pedestrian controls when taking photos near Bridge Tower Hall.

Nearby accommodation and stops

Juyuan Guesthouse and Yunju Hotel are at the foot of the mountain and can work for an overnight stay. Yujia Stone Village is another stop in Jingxing County. If travelling by public transport, check bus times before adding another site so you do not miss the last service.
