Plan at a glance
Visit the display room before the bridge
Zhaozhou Bridge is in Dashiqiao Village, Zhaozhou Town, Zhao County. You can walk close to the bridge itself, but the Ancient Bridge Components Exhibition Room is the best place to understand its surviving original pieces and repair history. It displays Sui- and later-period stone railings and blocks removed from the bridge; their carved details tell more of the bridge’s history than photographs of the deck alone.
Admission and opening hours
Regular admission to Zhaozhou Bridge Scenic Area is free. Night visits, the cinema, boat rides and other experiences, if operating, are charged separately. Opening hours vary by season. Check the current official notice for reservations, visitor limits and last entry; indoor spaces such as the exhibition room may have their own hours.
How long to spend
Allow 30–60 minutes for the bridge and exhibition room. If you also want to see the North Park, the stele forest and take photographs at a relaxed pace, plan on 1.5–2 hours. Families can add the textbook-themed installation on the bridge to a short visit; architecture enthusiasts should allow more time for the exhibition room and the bridge’s open-spandrel arches.

The Ancient Bridge Components Exhibition Room
The room preserves original stone parts removed from the bridge, including carved railings and blocks. It is the main stop for understanding the surviving fabric of the bridge and its repair history. The “donkey hoofprints” and wheel ruts on the bridge are folklore-linked photo spots; look at the original components inside the exhibition room.
Open-spandrel arches, steles and views
The open-spandrel arches are best seen close up. A waterside path in the North Park offers an unobstructed view of the whole bridge. The stele forest includes the “Panlong Fufeng” stele and a stele inscribed by the Qianlong Emperor. Afternoon light is softer and brings out details in the bridge and reflections on the water.
Who will enjoy it
Families can see the bridge they may know from school textbooks; visitors interested in architecture and museums can focus on its structure and repair history. If you are unfamiliar with the background, read the exhibition-room panels or arrange a guide before walking across the bridge.
Build your day
A 30–60-minute short route
Enter through the main entrance, go to the bridge, then visit the Ancient Bridge Components Exhibition Room and return along the visitor route. This works for visitors short on time or making Zhaozhou Bridge a stop while travelling through Zhao County. If the path from the entrance to the bridge has been temporarily changed, follow the signs on site.
A 1.5–2-hour highlights route
Entrance → view the bridge panorama from North Park → cross to the south bank → Ancient Bridge Components Exhibition Room → stele forest → return along the visitor route. Photograph the bridge panorama early, visit the exhibition room midway, then stop at the textbook-themed installation on the way back. The route follows the riverbank.
Add other stops in Zhao County
For a day in Zhao County, visit the bridge and exhibition room first, then continue to the Tuoluoni Scripture Pillar, Bailin Temple or free-entry Yongtong Bridge Park. Each is a separate stop with its own entrance and visit. For a meal on the way back, try Xue Shaoshan baked biscuits or donkey-meat *menzi*.
Get there
Public transport
Take Bus 1101 from Nanjiao Bus Station in Shijiazhuang and get off at “Zhaozhou Bridge” (赵州桥站). The fare is about RMB 6. From the stop, walk about 1 kilometre or transfer to a local shuttle for around RMB 2. Include this final leg in your arrival time, especially if travelling with children or luggage.
Driving and official parking
Set your navigation destination to “Zhaozhou Bridge Scenic Area Car Park.” Parking costs about RMB 4 per visit, with no time limit; spaces can be tight during holidays. Use the official car park and follow posted signs, as roadside parking guides or private lots may charge extra or lead to disputes.
Know before you go
The bridge’s appearance after repairs
The bridge underwent major repairs in the 1950s, so parts of its present appearance may look newer than expected. This does not diminish its historical value. Include the original components in the exhibition room, the stele forest and the repair history in your visit, rather than seeing only the bridge deck.
Reservations, guides and photography
Regular admission is free; night visits, the cinema, boat rides and other experiences, if available, cost extra. Opening hours vary by season, so check the official notice for that day’s reservation requirements, visitor limits and last entry. Official guided tours are paid; read the exhibition panels before walking onto the bridge to put its history in context. Follow site rules on the bridge and in the exhibition room when taking photographs.
Food and conditions nearby
There are many small stalls in and around the scenic area, and quality can vary. Xue Shaoshan baked biscuits and donkey-meat *menzi* are specific local snacks in Zhao County. Nearby services are basic; if you plan to stay only 30–60 minutes, bring drinking water. During busy periods, follow on-site notices for entry to the exhibition room and performance venues.
