Plan at a glance
Understand the scenic area
Mount Longhu Scenic Area is in Yingtan, Jiangxi Province. The visitor center is the starting point for entering the main scenic area, taking the sightseeing bus, and arranging the day. The natural route includes Elephant Trunk Hill, the Luxi River, and Taohua Islet. The cultural route extends toward Shangqing Ancient Town, the Tianshi Mansion, Zhengyi Temple, and Da Shangqing Palace.
Tickets and timing
Mount Longhu’s opening hours change by season, and current booking channels do not all display the same hours. Common listings show approximately 08:00–17:30 in summer, with last entry at 16:30, and approximately 08:30–17:10 in winter, with last entry at 16:30. Follow the official booking page on the day of your visit. An adult “admission ticket + sightseeing bus” combination currently costs about CNY 135, while “admission ticket + sightseeing bus + bamboo raft” costs about CNY 230; the admission ticket is valid for two days. Visitors aged 60–64, children 1.2–1.5 meters tall, minors under 18, and full-time students under 24 may buy discounted tickets under the applicable rules. Visitors aged 65 and above are exempt from the Mount Longhu scenic-area admission ticket, but operating services such as the sightseeing bus and bamboo raft are charged separately. Children under 1.2 meters can currently enter without the Mount Longhu scenic-area admission ticket and sightseeing-bus fee; bamboo-raft tickets follow the child policy and are currently usually about CNY 30. Check the required documents and prices on the booking page for the day.
How much time to allow
If you are short on time, allow 3–4 hours for Elephant Trunk Hill, the bamboo raft, and Taohua Islet. First-time visitors can allow one or two days. The bamboo-raft ride takes about 40 minutes, the high-altitude cliff walk about 1.5 hours, and Shangqing Ancient Town and the Tianshi Mansion need another half day.

Elephant Trunk Hill and the Danxia landscape
Elephant Trunk Hill is the most recognizable rock formation in the main scenic area. The high-altitude cliff walk follows the cliff and gives close views of the Danxia rock walls and the Luxi River. Most of the walk is relatively level; see the separate cliff-walk page for the entrance, steps, and one-way route.
Bamboo rafting on the Luxi River
The bamboo raft travels downstream on the Luxi River, while the boatman may point out locally named rock formations, including the “Shibude” (十不得) formations. Departures and ticketing change with the day’s operations, so check the same-day timetable before planning the next stop.
Taohua Islet and the Hanging Coffin Performance
Taohua Islet comes after the bamboo-raft route in the classic itinerary. The Hanging Coffin Performance draws on the cliff-burial culture of the ancient Yue people and lasts about 30 minutes. Rain, strong winds, and high water during the flood season may affect the performance. Confirm the day’s session before fitting it into your main-area route.
Shangqing Ancient Town and the Taoist cultural area
Shangqing Ancient Town, the Tianshi Mansion, Zhengyi Temple, and Da Shangqing Palace are suited to visitors interested in Taoist culture, old-town lanes, and traditional buildings. Shangqing and the Tianshi Mansion can be added after the natural route; check the current admission arrangements for these sites before visiting.
Build your day
A 3–4 hour quick route
Take the sightseeing bus from the visitor center to Elephant Trunk Hill. After the high-altitude cliff walk, take the bus toward the bamboo-raft wharf. The classic option is to take the bamboo raft to the Xianshui Rock area, then walk on to Taohua Islet for the day’s scheduled Hanging Coffin Performance. If you do not take the raft, you can instead follow the same-day sightseeing-bus route to Taohua Islet or a nearby viewing stop. Include the cliff walk, any raft wait, and the time spent waiting for the performance in the 3–4 hour estimate.
A 1–2 day highlights route
Spend the first day on the natural route: Elephant Trunk Hill and the high-altitude cliff walk, a short rest at Wumencun, then a bamboo raft along the Luxi River to Taohua Islet for the performance before returning to the visitor-center area. If raft or performance times change, fit Taohua Islet around the session announced that day.
Use the second day for the Taoist cultural area: visit Shangqing Ancient Town, the Tianshi Mansion, Zhengyi Temple, and Da Shangqing Palace in sequence, then return. Confirm on site whether Da Shangqing Palace and Zhengyi Temple are included in that day’s sightseeing-bus arrangement, whether they are open, and how the transfers connect.
Planning the viewpoint outside the scenic area
For a distant view of Mount Longhu, navigate separately to Longhu Xujia Village (龙虎许家村). Follow the main road toward the stream, then take the path on the right and walk about 10 minutes to Longhu Xujiatai Viewpoint. It is outside the main scenic-area ticket and sightseeing-bus route. The pond to the left of the visitor center can also be used for reflection photographs.
Get there
Visitor center and sightseeing bus
The visitor center is the navigation and transfer anchor for the main scenic area. Sightseeing buses connect Elephant Trunk Hill, the bamboo-raft wharf, Taohua Islet, and the Shangqing direction. The bamboo raft links the Luxi River with Taohua Islet on the classic route, while Taohua Islet can also be reached through the same-day sightseeing-bus route to a nearby viewing stop.
Driving, parking, and walking
If driving, set the navigation destination to the Mount Longhu Scenic Area visitor center. The reference parking fee is CNY 20 per day. The entrance, attractions, and exit may be separated by a long commercial stretch, so estimate walking time from the actual route.
Know before you go
Reservations, prices, and operating changes
You can buy tickets online one or two days ahead through the official “Mount Longhu Tourism” WeChat account or a reputable travel platform to reduce on-site queuing. Package prices, discounted tickets, sightseeing buses, bamboo-raft departures, performances, and entry rules may all change. Read each item shown for the day before paying.
Queues, weather, and safety
During busy periods, the bamboo raft, cliff-walk viewpoints, and Taohua Islet performance may all involve queues. Rain, strong winds, and flood-season conditions can also affect the raft or the Hanging Coffin Performance. At the cliff walk, viewpoints, and riverside photo spots, stay within the barriers and away from dangerous edges.
Food and spending
Wumencun can serve as a rest and meal stop on the first day. In Shangqing Ancient Town, local options include Tianshi chestnut roast chicken, Shangqing tofu, and Luxi River fish. Snacks, drinks, and bamboo-raft sales in the scenic area are optional; if someone introduces fortune-telling, blessing, or donation-based services, ask what the service is and how much it costs first.
Photography and complaints
Clear afternoons are suitable for photographing the Danxia landscape, while early morning or after rain can work well for reflections in the pond. If you encounter pressure to spend or a service problem, keep ticket or other relevant details and call the complaint number supplied in the source material, 0701-6658080.
