How to Visit
1

Book the standard admission package and use the North Gate

The standard ticket covers the core sightseeing route and shuttle. The North Gate is the simplest entry point from Zhangye city and puts you onto the normal one-way circuit.

Tip:The park is around 40 km from central Zhangye, so arrange the return ride before staying late for sunset.
2

Follow the one-way sightseeing shuttle

The shuttle links the main platforms in sequence. Stay with the route instead of trying to walk between stops, which avoids backtracking across a large and exposed landscape.

Tip:Allow time for the shuttle as well as each platform; the visit is not a short roadside photo stop.
3

Give the main viewpoints enough time

No. 2 Qicai Sea of Clouds Platform is useful for sunrise views, No. 5 Qicai JinXiu Platform gives a closer look at the layered rock, and No. 4 Qicai Xiahong Platform is a strong sunset stop.

Tip:Three to five hours is a realistic pace for the core route, especially if you plan to photograph more than one platform.
4

Time the visit around the light

Arrive with enough daylight to complete the shuttle circuit, then stay at a chosen platform for late-afternoon or sunset light. The midday sun can flatten the colours and make exposed walking less comfortable.

Tip:After rain, clearer air and wet rock can make the colour layers read more strongly, but keep to open paths and marked platforms.
5

Leave the rock formations undisturbed

Use only marked paths and viewing areas. The coloured layers are protected geological formations, and climbing barriers or walking onto the slopes is prohibited.

Tip:Bring water, sun protection, and a light outer layer; temperatures and wind can change quickly across the open platforms.
Highlights
  • A shuttle-linked route through some of the best-known colourful Danxia formations near Zhangye
  • No. 2 Qicai Sea of Clouds Platform for broad sunrise views and the S-shaped road below
  • No. 5 Qicai JinXiu Platform for closer layered rock textures
  • No. 4 Qicai Xiahong Platform as a practical choice for late-afternoon and sunset light
  • A manageable half-day visit that works well as a dedicated day trip from Zhangye city
Insider Tips

Use high-SPF sun protection, sunglasses, and drinking water. The platforms are exposed and north-west China sunlight is intense.

Wear shoes with reliable grip for steps and uneven platform approaches; avoid climbing beyond railings for photos.

If sunset is the priority, do not leave Zhangye city too late. Build in time for the drive, entry, shuttle circuit, and the final return transport.

Avoid relying on a single photo platform. The landscape changes with angle and light, so leave time for more than one stop.

Drone photography is prohibited inside the scenic area. Follow current park notices for any weather-related access changes.
