Plan at a glance
Where to start
Chikan Old Street sits around Minzhu Road, Datong Street and Xingfu Cross Street. The district itself is free, has no wall, and some exhibition halls may be closed on Mondays. It is a place for walking, not for driving into the core block.
How long to stay
If you only want the arcade buildings and the Secret Corner filming spots, 2 hours is enough. If you want the old wharves, museums and breakfast stops as well, half a day is better. The real charm here is in the corners, side streets and places to stop for food, not in ticking off a long list of landmarks.

2 hours: the core old-street loop
Start at Benli Convenience Store, follow the arcade cluster along Xingfu Road, continue to No. 7 Wharf, then finish at the Guangzhouwan Chamber of Commerce and return. This is the easiest route if your main goal is retro photos and you do not want a longer walk.
Half a day: the slower route
If you have more time, link Xianshui Temple, Jingyuan, Dachang Shop, No. 7 Wharf, Chikan District Museum, the shell wall, Water Well Head breakfast and the Peace Road arcade cluster. For a deeper city walk, keep going along Minzhu Road, Sanmin Road and Datong Street to find the old wharf relics, cafes and small creative shops.
Build your day
Use softer light for the big scenes
Benli and No. 7 Wharf both look better when the light is softer, so morning or after 3 p.m. works best. The arcade clusters and stone steps in Xingfu Road are made for slow walking, not fast checking-in, so leave room to wander.
The street's real character is in the turns
What makes Chikan Old Street work is not one building, but what appears when you turn into a lane: an old doorway, a teahouse or a small shop. Finish the main landmarks first, then leave the rest of the time for coffee, sweets and seafood noodles.
Get there
Driving and taxis
You can navigate to the "Old Street (Chuangye Street) Parking Lot" or to Chikan Old Street itself, but the old town has narrow roads and many one-way streets. Taxis or shared e-bikes are easier; if you do drive, park outside the core block and walk in.
Buses and e-bikes
You can also get off at Chikan Old Street Station or Jinsha Bay Station and walk in from there. Inside the district, e-bikes are much more practical than cars, especially if you want to move between the narrow lanes and the waterfront.
Know before you go
Food, shoes and pace
Street food around the old street can be uneven in quality, especially on holidays, so it is safer to choose older shops and places used by locals. The steps are uneven and the lanes are long, so comfortable shoes matter more than the outfit, and the best walking window is before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
Breakfast, sweets and nearby add-ons
The street is a good place to schedule breakfast and dinner, with seafood rice noodles, shrimp cakes, chicken rice, sugar water, basket-style rice cakes and charcoal oysters all easy to fit in. If you want to extend the day, Jinsha Bay, Xiashan Cathedral and Fishing Harbor Park are all natural additions, and sleeping near the old street or Jinsha Bay is the easiest way to keep the next morning simple.
