Wetland access and purpose
Techeng Island Mangrove Wetland Park is in the island's southeast within Techeng Island National Marine Park. Use the main gate for the boardwalk or the side gate for the tidal flats; the open park is free all day and needs no booking.
Its core experience is the bonsai-style mangroves, sea boardwalk, waterside steps and low-tide flats. Allow 1–2 hours for the boardwalk, or half a day when adding sheltered harbour, Xian Tai Temple, beach and a meal.
Choose boardwalk or low-tide visit
The park suits family nature observation and a short ecological walk without regard to tide. Visitors who want to dig for sandworms, collect mussels or look for small crabs must instead schedule the route around low tide.
This page is about old mangroves, boardwalk, tidal habitat and birds, not the island's full circuit. Use it as one clear stop if you are also cycling the island, visiting the harbour or staying for sunset.

1–2 hours: boardwalk and waterside steps
Enter through the main gate, walk the wooden boardwalk through the mangroves, reach the waterside steps for sea and tidal-flat views, then return or leave through the side gate. It suits a short visit focused on the "sea forest" and natural photographs.
Walking shoes are enough when you do not enter the flats. You can wait briefly at the steps near sunset, but still leave time for the return to the pier.
Half day: wetland, harbour and beach
Travel from the pier to the wetland, walk the boardwalk and use the low-tide window for shore activity, then continue to the sheltered harbour, Xian Tai Temple or resort beach before a fishing-village meal. It is a balanced first-island route.
Fix the low-tide window first, then place other stops around it. Without shore activity, put the wetland in the afternoon and follow it with returning boats at the harbour.
Two days: tides and slower island travel
Use day one for the island circuit and low-tide mangrove flats, then stay overnight; use day two for a boat trip, a small-boat mangrove ride and the morning market before leaving. This separates tide timing from ferry timing.
Families should prioritise equipment and a safe return time, not the length of a collection. Leave the flats as the tide comes back in.

Boardwalk, old trees and tidal habitat
Walk slowly through the boardwalk to see the old mangrove group and the habitat below; at lower tide, look from safe areas for fiddler crabs and mudskippers. This is an observation route, not a place to rush through.
At the waterside steps, view the layers of mangroves, sea and flats from stable ground. Around 17:00 the light can soften and egrets may be active, but wildlife should not be treated as a guaranteed performance.
Keep shore activity separate
Use the side gate for low-tide flats, then clean equipment before continuing to sheltered harbour, Xian Tai Temple or the resort beach. This prevents wet shoes and shore tools from disrupting the rest of the island walk.
If you do not enter the flats, go directly from the wetland to the harbour and then beach. The park does not need to occupy a full day to be meaningful.

Reach the park after the ferry
From Haibin Pier, take the CNY 5 water bus or passenger boat for a 15–20 minute crossing; from Fisherman's Wharf, the faster water bus costs CNY 30 and takes 7–20 minutes. Drivers can use the Haibin vehicle ferry for around CNY 100 per car plus CNY 5 per passenger.
On the island, rent an e-bike for CNY 30–50 per day; the wetland is 5–10 minutes from the pier. Larger groups can use a sightseeing cart at around CNY 150 per day, but should still confirm charge and return arrangements.
Pier choice and return
Haibin Pier works well for bus connections and vehicle ferries, while Fisherman's Wharf has denser services and a more comfortable crossing. Choose one for both directions rather than attempting to change piers late on the island.
Haibin's last boat is around 17:00–17:30 and Fisherman's Wharf's is around 18:30. Leave time to ride from the park, return any rental and reach the chosen pier after a sunset or tide visit.
Know before you go
Tide, safety and equipment
Use the tidal flats only at low tide and leave as water returns. Wear non-slip water shoes or thick-soled clogs and gloves; mudflats, basalt and shells are sharp, and children need adult supervision within an easily visible area.
Mangroves have mosquitoes and the waterside boardwalk has little shade. Carry repellent, sun protection and water, and make safety rather than collection volume the goal of shore activity.
Food, rentals and departure
Rental prices vary, so compare at homestays or near the visitor centre before agreeing. Visitors can buy seafood after afternoon boats return and use a homestay for cooking, but must confirm unit price, weight and preparation costs first.
Poweicun homestays cost CNY 100–300 per night, while hot-spring resorts suit visitors seeking resort facilities. Day visitors should end the wetland visit in time for a safe ferry return rather than waiting for sunset or extending shore activity past the boat schedule.
