Plan at a glance
How much time to allow
Beigu Hill is at 3 Dongwu Road in Jingkou District. It has both southern and northern entrances, and first-time visitors usually start at the South Gate. Allow about 2 hours for the highlights or about 1 hour for a quick route. The hill is about 58 metres high and the main path is relatively gentle, making it suitable for visitors who want river views, Three Kingdoms stories and historic buildings without a strenuous mountain climb.
Opening hours are usually 08:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Summer may bring an extended schedule, but do not plan solely by working backwards from a possible extension. Beigu Pavilion and Duojing Pavilion usually close around 17:00, so afternoon visitors should see the pavilions and higher viewpoints first.
Ticket and occasional activities
Adult admission is CNY 40 in peak season and CNY 30 in low season. Students and visitors aged 60 or above can usually receive half-price admission. Student tickets require in-person document verification. Online advance-purchase prices may differ, so use the seasonal adult ticket for the safer on-site budget.
On some public holidays or selected weekends, activities have offered free entry to visitors who recite poems, including “Tune: Nian Nu Jiao—Nostalgia for the Past at Beigu Pavilion in Jingkou”, “Tune: Yong Yu Le—Nostalgia for the Past at Beigu Pavilion in Jingkou” and “At the North Fort.” These activities appear only on specified dates and may pause in rainy weather. For an ordinary visit, prepare for the regular ticket and treat any event as dependent on the day's arrangement.

River-view pavilions and Beigu Hill's historical clues
Beigu Pavilion is on a higher part of the hill and suits views towards the Yangtze and Zhenjiang city. Duojing Pavilion is also known for its river-facing outlook, helping visitors understand the hill's position beside the river. Both pavilions are major stops, but their opening hours are relatively short, so visit earlier in the day.
Ganlu Temple is connected with the Three Kingdoms story of Liu Bei's marriage visit, making it a useful introduction to a famous Chinese historical legend. The Iron Pagoda preserves a historic metal pagoda and now has four surviving levels. The stone inscription “The Finest Mountain and River Under Heaven” is one of the site's most recognisable cultural markers. Visitors interested in calligraphy, classical literature or the Three Kingdoms can focus on the inscription, Ganlu Temple and the pavilions.
For light hill walking and photography
Beigu Hill's paths are generally not steep, and the physical effort is lower than at a mountain attraction with a long climb. Visitors seeking river views can prioritise Beigu Pavilion, Duojing Pavilion and Jiang Pavilion. For architecture photography, look at the relationship between the pavilions, stone inscriptions, old paths and the river.
The site fits comfortably into a half-day. Jinshan, Beigu Hill and Jiaoshan can be spread across a multi-day Zhenjiang itinerary, but each attraction has its own entrance, ticket and transport arrangements, so plan each arrival separately.
Build your day
A highlights route of about 2 hours
Enter through the South Gate and follow the Dongwu Ancient Path to the Iron Pagoda. Continue to Duojing Pavilion, then visit the “The Finest Mountain and River Under Heaven” inscription and Ganlu Temple. Finish at Beigu Pavilion and Jiang Pavilion, then descend and leave in the direction of Jiang Pavilion.
This route links the uphill section, pavilions, temple and descent with relatively little backtracking. If you want to enter Beigu Pavilion and Duojing Pavilion, arrive earlier in the afternoon. If you are already close to closing time, see the pavilions first and leave the other stops for afterward.
A quick route of about 1 hour
From the South Gate, follow the main path uphill to the “The Finest Mountain and River Under Heaven” inscription, Ganlu Temple, Beigu Pavilion and Duojing Pavilion, then descend towards Jiang Pavilion. This keeps the most recognisable cultural points and river viewpoints, and suits visitors with limited time, older companions or a multi-attraction day in Zhenjiang.
The quick route still includes stairs and slopes. To reduce stops, choose either Beigu Pavilion or Duojing Pavilion as the main viewpoint and see the other from outside. When the site is crowded, follow the one-way directions and avoid standing for long at stair entrances.
Get there
By bus and from Zhenjiang Railway Station
City buses such as Routes 4, 8, 15 and 204 serve the “Beigu Hill Park” or “Ganlu Temple” area. From Zhenjiang Railway Station, consider Routes 2, 104 or 204; the journey takes about 30 minutes. After getting off, walk towards the South Gate or Ganlu Temple and confirm that you are following the South Gate route before entering.
The South Gate address is 3 Dongwu Road and is the easiest entrance to match with buses and map navigation. The North Gate suits visitors familiar with the layout or using a specific transfer arrangement; on a first visit, do not change entrances casually and then try to find the highlights route.
By car and moving on afterwards
Drivers can first check the South Gate car park. Other parking options are available nearby, but holidays require extra time to find a space and walk to the entrance. Movement inside the scenic area is on foot. The hill is not long, but it includes stairs and viewing floors. After leaving, taking a bus or taxi to Jinshan, Jiaoshan or Xijin Ferry is more practical than trying to connect several attractions on foot.
Know before you go
Check the pavilion hours first
Beigu Pavilion, Duojing Pavilion and other higher buildings usually close around 17:00. The scenic area's overall closing time and the pavilions' last visiting time are not exactly the same. The safest plan is to arrive in the morning or early afternoon, visit the pavilions and river viewpoints first, then take your time with Ganlu Temple, the inscription and the descent.
Free entry for reciting poems is a date-specific activity and may have time or capacity limits. It may also pause in rainy weather. Without confirmation that it is happening that day, plan around the regular CNY 30–40 adult ticket and do not make the whole itinerary depend on the activity.
Walking, photographs and weather
Beigu Hill is not high, but the Dongwu Ancient Path, pavilions and Jiang Pavilion still involve stairs. Comfortable shoes are enough; professional hiking equipment is unnecessary for this short hill route. Stone steps can be slippery after rain, so slow down on the descent. Beigu Pavilion's upper level and Duojing Pavilion are good for river views. Follow crowd-control and safety instructions when taking photographs, and stay inside the riverside barriers.
