Plan at a glance
A separate island with one main access point
Luojia Mountain is a separate island southeast of Putuo Mountain. You first travel to Putuo Mountain, then take a boat from Short Aunt Pier; the pier is near Putuo Mountain's main pier and is about a 5-minute walk away.
The island's main route is the Luojia Pilgrimage Path, a roughly 1.5-kilometre stone-step route linking several temples and viewing points. There are no sightseeing vehicles or vehicle transfers to these stops, so visitors complete the main route on foot in sequence.
Boat tickets, admission and sailing times
The Luojia Mountain package is about CNY 70 per person and includes the return boat and Luojia Mountain admission. It can be bought one day in advance through the Putuo Mountain Travel Agency or a Luojia Mountain mini-program. Boat tickets can be tight during holidays, so plan earlier; Short Aunt Pier may also sell tickets on site.
Boat services depend on weather. Confirm both the outbound and return arrangements on the pier that day. Reference departures are usually spread from morning to midday. You do not have to take the same boat back, but you must return within the day's operating period and follow the pier's arrangements.
How much time to allow
The main walking route takes about 2–3 hours, in addition to waiting for the boat, the crossing and the walk between Putuo Mountain's main pier and Short Aunt Pier. The route has continuous steps and slopes, so it suits visitors who can manage extended walking, queues and sea travel.
Luojia Mountain has no shops or accommodation, and supplies are limited. Prepare drinking water, simple food, cash and motion-sickness medicine on Putuo Mountain before departing. Leave time to confirm the return boat before setting out.

One stone-step route
Luojia Mountain's main experience is a one-way stone-step route with little need to retrace your steps. Tudi Temple, Maitreya Hall, Miaozhan Pagoda, Jialan Hall, Yuantong Zen Monastery, Dabei Hall, Dajue Zen Monastery, the Gate of Liberation and Huitou Bodhisattva appear in sequence along the route. Follow the on-site directions and visit each section at your own pace.
The route has a clear rhythm, but few places to buy supplies or take a long break. Visitors interested in temple architecture, island walking or religious cultural spaces can focus on the building layout, stone steps and island setting.
Sea views and island buildings
As the boat approaches Luojia Mountain, you can watch the island outline and the surrounding sea. Visibility, waves and the boat's position affect the view. The temples and stone paths are better suited to a slow visit; photography and stops should fit the traffic flow and return-boat plan.
The Water Crystal Palace area, Dishui Guanyin, Miaozhan Pagoda and Yuantong Zen Monastery can serve as stops along the route. The areas open to visitors and the places where you may pause follow the entrance notices that day.
Who is it for?
Luojia Mountain suits visitors comfortable with boats, steps and continuous walking, as well as people who want to make their Putuo Mountain trip more complete by setting aside half a day. If anyone in your group has knee problems, limited mobility or motion sickness, assess their condition and the weather before deciding.
There is no accommodation or regular commercial service on the island, so buying water, finding food or waiting for the next boat is difficult. Visitors who need an accessible route, dependable supplies or a short and easy outing may prefer other routes on Putuo Mountain's main island.
Build your day
Reach Putuo Mountain before transferring at Short Aunt Pier
Take a boat from Zhoushan's main island to Putuo Mountain, then walk from Putuo Mountain's main pier to Short Aunt Pier. The walk takes about 5 minutes, but you also need time for queues, ticket checks and the transfer between piers.
At Short Aunt Pier, board the available boat for the day. Confirm the Luojia package, boarding point, outbound boat and return arrangements before starting the island walk.
The 2–3-hour main route
After disembarking, follow the Luojia Pilgrimage Path through Tudi Temple, Maitreya Hall, Miaozhan Pagoda, Jialan Hall, Yuantong Zen Monastery, Dabei Hall, Dajue Zen Monastery, the Gate of Liberation and Huitou Bodhisattva, then follow the exit direction back to the pier. The route is mostly stone steps, so stop in sections and keep your own pace rather than rushing downhill for a particular photo.
The route generally does not require a full return walk, but every section still needs to leave enough time to reach the pier. If the surface becomes slippery, the wind strengthens or someone in the group tires, shorten the stops and make the return the priority.
Return boats and a half-day plan
Reference outbound times include 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 12:00 and 13:00; reference return times include 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 15:00. These times are planning references only; the day's actual service follows the pier notice. You may return on a different boat if the operating arrangements allow it, but leave extra time when travelling near the last service.
If you also plan to visit Putuo Mountain's main island that day, confirm the Luojia return boat first, then decide whether to add temple or coastal routes. Waiting, weather changes and the stone-step walk can all take longer than expected, so the return boat should take priority over other stops.
Get there
Enter Putuo Mountain from Zhoushan's main island
Luojia Mountain is normally reached by first travelling to Putuo Mountain. You can take a boat from Zhujiajian Wugongshi Pier or Shenjiamen Banshengdong Pier to Putuo Mountain, then follow the island directions to Short Aunt Pier.
From Zhoushan's main island, the journey includes three separate links: the boat to Putuo Mountain, the walk across Putuo Mountain and the return boat between Putuo Mountain and Luojia Mountain. Allow time for each one.
Walk from Putuo Mountain's main pier to Short Aunt Pier
Short Aunt Pier is about a 5-minute walk from Putuo Mountain's main pier. Large luggage makes boarding and the stone-step route harder, so arrange storage in advance and travel light.
At Short Aunt Pier, confirm the package, ticket gate, outbound boat and return rules. Boat services may change with weather and visitor numbers; checking the day's notice is safer than following an old timetable.
Know before you go
Supplies, cash and motion sickness
Luojia Mountain has no shops, accommodation or regular food service. Prepare water, snacks, basic medicine and cash on Putuo Mountain's main island. A long stay without enough supplies will directly affect both the walk and the return plan.
The boat journey and sea conditions can cause motion sickness. Visitors who are prone to it should prepare medicine and include seating, waves and return-boat waiting time in their energy plan. When the weather is unstable, both boat services and the time you can spend on the island may change.
Steps, footwear and coastal safety
The main route has continuous steps and slopes, so grippy walking shoes are more suitable than sandals. Use sun protection in summer. If the wind increases or the path is wet after rain, slow down and stay away from slippery edges.
Stay on the open route and away from dangerous coastal edges when taking photographs. Temporary rescue and supplies are limited on the island; if anyone feels unwell, turn back promptly and contact staff on site.
Return and nearby connections
Confirm the Luojia return boat, the boat to Putuo Mountain and the island sightseeing-vehicle arrangements separately. If you want to combine Luojia Mountain with other Putuo Mountain sights, fix the return boat first and use the remaining time for other stops.
Zhujiajian and Shenjiamen are better arranged before or after leaving Putuo Mountain. Luojia Mountain has no accommodation or night-time supplies, so confirm the evening return, lodging and next boat connection in advance; last-minute connections are difficult.
