Free public grassland and entrance
Saihantala Urban Grassland is a public grassland area in Baotou’s Jiuyuan and Qingshan districts. The public areas are free, require no reservation and are open all day. Gate 3 is a practical way to reach the core area; look nearby for bicycle rental and sightseeing shuttle services, as actual boarding points depend on daily operations.
Loop length and visit time
The main loop is about 10 km. A sightseeing shuttle loop takes about 30 minutes and costs CNY 20 per person; a cycling visit usually takes 2–3 hours, with stops at the ovoo, Shenglu Garden (圣鹿园, home to sika deer), viewpoints and wetlands.
Public areas and services
The public areas are open all day, while the sightseeing shuttle, bicycle rental, Shenglu Garden and food outlets each keep their own hours. You can enter the public grassland at night, but services inside the park close according to their individual schedules.

Ovoo Plaza and city views
Ovoo Plaza stands at a high point in the grassland and is shaped like a morin khuur, a Mongolian horse-head fiddle. From here, you can look out over the grassland and the city; it also makes a clear stop on a cycling loop.
Shenglu Garden
At Shenglu Garden, visitors can observe sika deer at close range. Feeding may or may not be available on the day; families with children can make this a separate stop and follow the site’s rules for feeding and contact.
Rainbow Greenway, red-willow groves and wetlands
The roughly 10-km main loop links grassland, red-willow groves and wetland boardwalks, with places to stop along the ride. The wetlands and boardwalks suit a slower visit; for a brief stop, choose one of them.
Evening light
The trees near Gate 3, the viewpoints and the wetland boardwalks are good places to photograph the evening light. Sunset time changes through the year, so check it for your date and confirm when rentals and the shuttle stop operating before planning an evening visit.
For a separate outdoor collection of retired military equipment, see Northern Weapons City.
For the city’s indoor local-history and art galleries, see Baotou Museum.
Build your day
Quick loop: about 30 minutes by sightseeing shuttle
For a quick look at the grassland, take the park’s sightseeing shuttle. Near Gate 3, look for rental and shuttle services; actual boarding points depend on daily operations. The loop takes about 30 minutes. Before boarding, confirm the day’s pickup point, route and whether you can get off along the way; visit Shenglu Garden or the wetlands as separate stops if they are a priority.
Cycling route: a relaxed ride around the 10-km loop
Start by looking for a rental point near Gate 3, then ride the Rainbow Greenway. You can stop at Ovoo Plaza, Shenglu Garden, the red-willow groves and the wetland boardwalks; allow about 2–3 hours for the full ride. Bicycle rental in the park is listed at CNY 20–40 per hour; confirm the return point and final return time on site.
Walk a short section or stop in stages
The main loop is long. For a walk, choose one section of greenway and one stop, then return the way you came to an entrance or rental point. The 10-km loop is better suited to cycling, while a walking visit can focus on a short stretch and nearby sights.

Deer park and paid activities
Deer feeding, Mongolian clothing rental and archery operate according to their own service schedules and are not included in free access to the public grassland. Check prices, service hours and on-site rules before taking part.
Summer insects
Insects are common in summer, especially around the West Gate. Bring insect repellent if you plan to walk or cycle there. Check which service points along your route are open, particularly if you will return by bike or shuttle in the evening.
Food inside and outside the park
Benteng Fengqingyuan (奔腾风情园) is inside the park and has Mongolian yurt-style dining, including milk tea and shouba rou (Mongolian boiled lamb). Ma Shoujiang Baotou Laoguanzi (马守疆包头老馆子) is in the city and suits a meal after you return.
