Enter the three courtyards from the main gate
Changchun Confucius Temple Museum is at No. 239 Dongtian Street in Nanguan District. Navigate to “Changchun Confucius Temple Museum” and enter through the main gate. Walk north past the spirit screen wall, Pan Pool, Pan Bridge, and Lingxing Gate to Dacheng Gate and Dacheng Hall. The east and west side courtyards and Confucius Academy can extend a visit after the main axis.
Admission is free. Individual visitors collect an entry ticket at the main gate with valid ID; groups should book by phone in advance. Normal hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 09:00–16:00, with last entry at 15:30. The museum is closed on Mondays. Check its notices for public holidays and temporary events.
Visit time and current exhibitions
The main axis takes about 1–1.5 hours; add the east and west courtyards and exhibitions for a 2–3-hour visit. From September 28 through December 31, 2026, the first floor of Confucius Academy hosts “New Trends: A Century of Social Customs in Changchun” (《新风渐起——长春百年社会风俗变迁展》). Other cultural activities are announced by date and are not part of a regular daily program.

Choose your visit
Lingxing Gate, Pan Pool, and Dacheng Hall
The main route runs south to north through Pan Pool, Pan Bridge, Lingxing Gate, and Dacheng Gate, ending at Dacheng Hall. The red walls and symmetrical sequence of buildings show the traditional layout. Pan Pool and the Number One Scholar Bridge are places to pause along the central axis; enter Dacheng Hall only when on-site signs show it is open.
The side courtyards and Wenchang Pavilion
On the east side are Wenchang Pavilion (文昌阁), Minglun Hall (明伦堂), and spaces related to Wenchang worship. On the west side are the Confucius Family Temple and Chongsheng Hall. Visit them alongside the exhibitions. Praying to Wenchang is a local folk tradition and does not determine exam or career results. Follow on-site rules for photography, prayer items, and activity areas.
Exhibitions on the imperial examinations and temple history
The west gallery’s “Selecting Officials through Examinations: A Special Exhibition on China’s Imperial Examination System” (《开科取仕——中国科举文化专题展》) introduces the examination system. The east gallery’s “Confucius, the Sage: Illustrations of His Life” (《儒圣孔子——孔子圣迹图》) presents the life of Confucius; Chongsheng Hall has a separate exhibition on the temple’s history. “New Trends” covers changes in Changchun’s social customs from the late Qing to the early Republican period and runs through the end of 2026. Exhibitions may change, so check the museum’s latest notice before visiting.
For a separate modern-history visit to the former palace compound, see Manchukuo Imperial Palace Museum.
For a separate Buddhist temple visit with a shorter central-axis route, see Huguo Banruo Temple.
Build your day
A 1–1.5-hour central-axis route
Collect a free ticket at the main gate, then walk north in order: spirit screen wall → Pan Pool and Pan Bridge → Lingxing Gate → Dacheng Gate → Dacheng Hall. Return to the main gate the same way. Allow about 1–1.5 hours. Pause at Pan Pool and the Number One Scholar Bridge before entering Dacheng Hall if it is open. If arriving close to the 15:30 last-entry time, keep to this short route.
A 2–3-hour full visit
Walk the full central axis first. At Dacheng Gate, turn to the east-side Wenchang Pavilion, then return to the main courtyard and visit the west-side Confucius Family Temple, Chongsheng Hall, and the imperial examination gallery. Finish with the current exhibition on the first floor of Confucius Academy, then return to the main gate. Follow that day’s signs for open areas. Allow 2–3 hours to see both the architecture and exhibitions.
Lectures and festival activities
Lectures on traditional Chinese culture, etiquette events, pitch-pot games, and intangible cultural heritage activities are announced by session. Check the museum’s notice for the day if you plan to attend. Hanfu parades, ceremonial performances, and lectures during festivals are one-day events and may not take place on regular opening days.
Get there
Navigate to the main gate
The address is commonly listed as No. 239 Dongtian Street; some map pins show No. 239 Dongtoudao Street. The museum is near Yatai Avenue and Dongtoudao Street. Search for “Changchun Confucius Temple Museum” and enter through the gate marked with the museum name. Do not navigate to an office or school entrance elsewhere in the Confucius Cultural Park.
Metro and buses
Take Changchun Rail Transit Line 2 to Nanguan Station (南关站). From there, it is about a 10-minute walk to the temple’s main gate. Follow station signs and use a map for the final approach. Buses 80, 88, or 125 serve the Dong’erdao Street area; buses 1 and 152 are also listed by the museum. From the stop, use a live map to walk to the main gate on Dongtian Street.
Driving and nearby transfers
For driving or a taxi, set “Changchun Confucius Temple Museum Main Gate” as the destination. Parking location, fees, and availability are not clearly listed; follow on-site signs when you arrive. The Manchukuo Imperial Palace Museum is a separate venue with its own entrance and ticket. If visiting both on the same day, navigate to each separately and plan around their opening hours; they are not one continuous walking site.
Know before you go
Free tickets and ID
Individual visitors should bring valid ID and collect a free ticket at the main gate. Groups must book by phone at least 24 hours ahead: 0431-89612677. If a lecture or activity requires QR-code booking or has a participant limit, register as stated in that event notice. Passport registration for overseas visitors is unclear; call 0431-88752614 or 0431-89612677 before visiting.
Closing time and temporary changes
The museum is closed on Mondays. From Tuesday to Sunday, last entry is at 15:30 and the museum closes at 16:00. Holidays, severe weather, and special events may change the schedule; the museum issued separate opening arrangements for the 2026 National Day holiday. Check the website or official WeChat account on the day. If arriving late, choose the central-axis short route.
Prayer customs, photography, and exhibits
Wenchang Pavilion and Kuixing Tower (魁星楼) are associated with prayers for academic success. Prayer boards, red ribbons, and stamp services depend on on-site arrangements; do not tie personal items to trees, historic buildings, or exhibits. The imperial examination exhibition explains the examination system. A 2024 special-exhibition report described the Qing-dynasty palace examination paper as a replica; check the current label to see whether a related paper is on display.
