History and art in the Jingyue area
Jilin Provincial Museum is at No. 1666 Yongshun Road in the Jingyue National High-tech Industrial Development Zone. Admission is free, but visitors need a real-name reservation. The main museum is normally open Tuesday through Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30; it is closed on Mondays. Check the museum’s announcements for holidays and temporary changes.
Allow 1.5–2 hours for the main route through the permanent history exhibition. For a current special exhibition or a particular artifact, use the latest exhibition notice to see whether its gallery is open and the item is on display.

Choose your visit
Start with the history of Jilin
“Memories of White Mountains and Black Waters: A History and Culture of Jilin” (《白山松水的记忆——吉林省历史文化陈列》) is the main route for a first visit. It presents the history of Jilin and its cultural exchanges by period. The collection covers prehistory, the Buyeo kingdom, Goguryeo, Balhae, the Liao and Jin dynasties, and modern history; the displays depend on which galleries are open that day.
Check current notices for temporary exhibitions and calligraphy
Temporary galleries, including those on the third floor, change exhibitions and may close temporarily. If a particular painting, special exhibition, or scheduled demonstration is your priority, use the latest notice to see whether it is on view; collection listings do not guarantee an item is displayed that day.
Book the other two museums separately
Jilin Science and Technology Museum and Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum are in the same Science and Culture Center complex, but each has its own reservation system and opening hours. They are not galleries of Jilin Provincial Museum, and a museum reservation does not cover the other two. On Tuesdays, when the provincial museum is open, the science and optics museums are usually closed.
For city-history galleries and the Jilin University off-campus branch at a different location, see Changchun Museum.
Build your day
The 1.5–2-hour history route
Enter through the main entrance on the center’s first floor at your reserved time. Start with the permanent “Memories of White Mountains and Black Waters” exhibition, then visit an open special exhibition and pick up a visitor map at the service desk. If you have time for only one part, prioritize the history exhibition; use the latest notice to plan around a temporary show or specific work.
Add a temporary exhibition: 2–3 hours
After the history exhibition, visit temporary galleries that are open that day. Follow the museum’s on-site information for exhibition content, gallery maintenance closures, and scheduled demonstrations. If your target gallery is closed, visit another open area; the collection catalogue does not mean every item is on display.
Visit all three museums in one day
If you want to visit all three museums, choose a Wednesday through Sunday and make a separate reservation for each. The provincial museum is open on Tuesdays, but the science and optics museums are usually closed that day. Allow time for security screening, reservation checks, and walking between museums; each has its own ticket and reservation.
Get there
Rail Transit Line 6
Take Changchun Rail Transit Line 6 to Jilin Provincial Museum Station (省博物院站), then walk about 150 m from Exit C to the Science and Culture Center. Enter through the main entrance on the center’s first floor and follow the signs for Jilin Provincial Museum to the main galleries.
Buses to Yongshun Road
Jilin’s tourism route information lists bus 102 or G102 to Jilin Provincial Museum Stop (吉林省博物院站), and Z210 to Yongshun Road Stop (永顺路站). Routes may change, so check the stop and final walk on a map on the day of travel.
Museum entry and exit
The visitor entrance to the Science and Culture Center is the main door on the first floor. At the end of your visit, follow the signs to the basement-level exit. The museums share a complex but may use different doors; confirm which museum and entrance match your reservation before entering.
Know before you go
Free entry with a reservation and ID
Reserve in advance through the official Jilin Provincial Museum WeChat account and arrive at your reserved time. Entry is verified with the reservation QR code or the original ID of the person who booked. Visitors who cannot complete an online reservation, including some seniors or overseas visitors, can bring valid ID to register at the staffed counter; overseas visitors can bring a passport and follow staff instructions. Free entry still requires a reservation or the required in-person registration and entry check.
The three museums have different opening days
The provincial museum is normally open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays. The science and optics museums are normally open Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Public holidays may bring schedule changes; check each museum’s notices separately. Summer, New Year, and National Day extended hours do not apply to ordinary dates.
Temporary galleries may close
The museum posts temporary gallery closures and exhibition removals under “Latest News” and on its exhibition pages. If you are traveling for a particular painting, calligraphy work, or special exhibition, call beforehand to confirm it will be on view.
Strollers and complex rules
The Science and Culture Center requires security screening. Its rules say children’s ride-on vehicles, strollers, and scooters cannot be taken into the museums; an on-site storage area is available. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. If driving, ask the center about which parking areas are open and the current fees.
