Plan at a glance

Location, entrances and opening

Chaozhou West Lake is on Huancheng West Road, beside the old city. Use the east gate for Paifang Street and Kaiyuan Temple, or the north gate for the morning market. Entry is free and no reservation is needed.

The park is open from 07:00–22:00. The 16:00–18:00 period is useful for lake light and sunset, while public holidays require more time for walking.

Choose your visit

1–1.5 hours: pavilion and zigzag bridge

Enter from the east gate, visit the central-lake pavilion, Hanbi Tower and the zigzag bridge, then leave through the north gate.

2–3 hours: lake, hillside and panorama

Continue from the pavilion and Hanbi Tower along the lakeside paths and zigzag bridge, then climb toward the hillside amusement area and television tower for a wider view.

A full old-city day

Visit West Lake first, then walk to Paifang Street, Kaiyuan Temple and Guangji Bridge. Keep Guangji Bridge for late afternoon if you plan to see the opening process and evening lights.

Build your day

Begin at the east gate

Prioritise the central-lake pavilion, old banyan and lake reflections, then continue to Hanbi Tower. Late afternoon light is softer for the water and historic buildings.

Continue toward the north gate

Use the zigzag bridge as a short lakeside stop, then follow the shaded paths toward the north gate. If you arrive early, the market between White Bridge and the north gate can serve as a breakfast or snack stop.

Get there

Bus, taxi and walking

Take a bus to West Lake Park, or use a short city taxi ride to the east or north gate. West Lake is within walking distance of Paifang Street and Kaiyuan Temple.

Driving and parking

Use West Lake Park Parking Lot or Fengcheng Park Parking Lot, which is about 6 CNY per visit. Parking is tighter on public holidays, so park first and continue on foot.

Know before you go

Sun, mosquitoes and footwear

Some areas have limited shade, so bring sun protection and insect repellent in summer. The longer routes involve substantial walking; wear flat, non-slip shoes.

Boats and purchases

If taking a boat, confirm the boat type, duration and sightline first. Small boats are listed at 50 CNY per half hour and larger boats at 70 CNY per half hour. Confirm prices before buying fruit, desserts or other casual purchases; the north market is a better stop for local snacks.
