How to Visit
1

Buy tickets online in advance and check the weather first

Yangtianhu sits at about 1,314 meters above sea level, so the experience changes a lot between clear days and rainy or foggy days.

Tip:In prolonged mist or rain, grassy paths can be slippery, and photo spots or paid activities may be affected.
2

Use self-driving, a private transfer, or the 832 tourist bus

From Chenzhou West Railway Station, you can use the 832 Line A or arrange a car. If driving, allow extra time for the final mountain road, which has many bends.

Tip:Avoid driving down after dark, especially after rain or when fog reduces visibility.
3

Allow at least 3-5 hours

Start with the grassland and Yangtianhu Lake area, then continue to the wind-turbine ridge, Hobbit-style castle, animal area, grass sliding, and other paid activities.

Tip:Families and photo-focused visitors should not rush the route.
4

Use afternoon light but leave before dark

Afternoon light is better for the grassland and wind turbines, but the mountain gets noticeably cooler in the evening.

Tip:Visibility can drop quickly on foggy days, and the winding descent is safer in daylight.
Highlights
  • A rare open mountain landscape near Chenzhou, combining highland grassland, lake views, and wind-turbine ridges.
  • Hobbit-style castle scenes, rainbow walkways, and grassland cabins that are easy for casual photos without heavy hiking.
  • Family-friendly activities such as the animal area, grass sliding, and small train, though some require extra payment or queueing.
  • Cooler summer air than downtown Chenzhou, making it a useful half-day escape.
  • Clear days bring the best grass color, wind-turbine views, and cloud layers; rainy or foggy days can feel atmospheric but are less predictable.
Insider Tips

Check the weather before buying tickets; if heavy fog or rain is expected, it is not ideal for a dedicated trip.

Wear grippy sneakers or outdoor shoes. Grass, slopes, and wet paths are not suitable for ordinary sandals.

Bring a light jacket, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. UV is strong at altitude, and the wind feels cooler than in the city.

If driving, try to descend during daylight. The winding mountain road is more demanding after rain or at night.

Paid activities, animal feeding, food, and parking can add extra cost, so plan the stop as a half-day outing with some budget flexibility.
