Plan at a glance
Start here
Ming Zhongdu Bell Tower stands on Bell Tower Square in Fengyang. It is a traditional-style reconstruction from 2017–2018 near the original site and sits on the new city's Zhongdu central axis. The main visit combines climbing the tower, seeing the interior exhibition, and taking in the view from above. Allow 30–45 minutes; with the nearby Fengyang Temple of Past Emperors, allow 1–1.5 hours.
Tickets and opening
The reference adult ticket price is CNY 30. Discounts and online prices may change, so confirm when buying. No reservation is normally required; reference opening hours are 08:30–17:30. Whether the tower climb and exhibition rooms are open follows the day's arrangement.
Who it suits
This is a good short stop for visitors curious about Ming Zhongdu's city layout or wanting a higher view over Fengyang. Visitors looking for an intact Ming original should set expectations accordingly: the interest here is the building's scale, its exhibition, and the city view.

Climbing and the exhibition
The upper viewing platform is the main stopping point, with views toward Fengyang's new town and central axis. The interior exhibition introduces Ming Zhongdu and Fengyang's history. Before and after climbing, look at the brick decoration and the “Danfeng Chaoyang” stone plaque above the entrance bay.
The central-axis combination
Fengyang Temple of Past Emperors can be reached on foot from the bell tower area, but the two attractions have separate ticketing and management. The opening status of the Ming Zhongdu Drum Tower can change with restoration work; check the bell tower and drum tower separately.
Architectural details and the view
As you climb, notice the building's approximately 40.1-metre height, its nine-by-five-bay proportions, the entrance bay, the wan (卍) motif in the brickwork, and the “Danfeng Chaoyang” plaque. At the top, shift your attention to Fengyang and the central axis. The view and the interior exhibition offer two different reasons to stop.
Build your day
The 30–45 minute visit
Enter from the main Bell Tower Square entrance, follow the day's route up, see the interior exhibition, and finish at the viewing platform with the city directions and tower structure in view. If access to the upper level is restricted, make the exhibition, entrance bay, stone plaque, and square-facing exterior the main stop.
The 1–1.5 hour combination
Complete the climb and exhibition first, then walk to the nearby Fengyang Temple of Past Emperors and enter through its separate entrance. Buy tickets and leave each site independently; plan them as two stops rather than treating one attraction's opening arrangement as a substitute for the other.
Get there
Transport within Fengyang County town
Fengyang does not have a metro system. From Bengbu South Railway Station, transfer from bus 398 to Fengyang bus 10, or take a taxi directly; the reference journey is about 40–50 minutes. Within the county town, taxis between sites cost about CNY 10–20 by reference; driving or shared e-bikes also work for short movements.
Bell Tower Square and parking
Navigate to “Bell Tower Square” for the main entrance. There are car parks around the square, and some spaces may be free; availability changes with the time of day. After arrival, use the on-site signs to locate the ticket counter and tower entrance before adding another nearby stop.
Know before you go
If climbing or exhibition access is restricted
Use the entrance bay, brick decoration, stone plaque, exterior, and Bell Tower Square to understand the building and its place on the central axis. Drum Tower restoration is a separate matter and does not determine whether the bell tower is open.
Reconstruction expectations and the way back
The bell tower belongs to the 2017–2018 reconstruction period, so its strengths are the building, exhibition, and city view. Visitors expecting an original Ming structure should adjust the goal before entering. After a short visit, eat around Bell Tower Square, then walk or take a taxi to Fengyang Temple of Past Emperors; the two attractions still have separate entrances and opening arrangements.
