Plan at a glance

Start here

Chishan Lake National Wetland Park lies on the border between Lai'an County in Chuzhou and Liuhe District in Nanjing. Its main experiences are the cypress forest, open water, and wetland paths. The East Gate is closer to the large lotus pond and wetland restaurant; the West Gate is closer to the cypress forest, small-animal area, and birdwatching areas. Choose the entrance around the season and what is open that day.

Tickets and opening hours

The reference gate price is CNY 120. A basic OTA ticket may be around CNY 69, while a ticket-plus-water-forest boat product may be around CNY 109; the sightseeing vehicle may cost extra. These figures refer to different channels or products and are not three directly comparable basic ticket prices. Reference daytime hours are 08:30–17:00; the entry cut-off follows the day's arrangement, so it is best to enter before 16:00. When buying, check item by item whether the boat is included or must be purchased separately.

How much time to allow

The quick route, with the cypress boardwalk and a boat ride through the water forest, takes about 1.5–2 hours. Add more paths and optional areas for a 3–4 hour visit. Taxis can be difficult to find for the return, so plan this as a half-day or full-day outing, especially if driving.

Choose the entrance before the route

The East and West Gates are not interchangeable labels. The East Gate puts the large lotus pond and wetland restaurant earlier in the visit, while the West Gate is more convenient for the cypress forest, small-animal area, and birdwatching. Choose a direction based on the season and priority scenery, then adjust around the entrance, boat boarding point, and paths actually open on arrival. Use either gate for entry and exit only as directed on site.

Cypress forest and boat ride

The cypress boardwalk connects the water and forest areas and is the park's main walking experience. The boat ride takes about 20–30 minutes and reaches a more concentrated section of the water forest. For the full water-forest experience, combine the boardwalk and boat; if you mainly want a walk, start with the boardwalk and decide about the boat after checking the day's departures and ticket type.

Lotus pond, birdwatching, and optional areas

In the warm season, begin at the East Gate for the large lotus pond. The cypress forest and birdwatching areas are more straightforward from the West Gate. Blossoms, red leaves, and migratory birds depend on season and weather. The small-animal area is optional; adding it reduces time for the wetlands and cypress forest, so families should weigh it against the total visit and the animal area's opening status.

Whether to add the boat

The boat links the water, cypress forest, and boardwalk into one experience, but it depends on departures, the boarding point, and what the ticket product includes. If the boat is central to your visit, confirm the departure before planning the boardwalk. If you prefer walking or do not want to wait, finish the boardwalk first; an uncertain boat ticket need not disrupt the day.

Build your day

The 3–4 hour full route

Enter through the East or West Gate according to the season and the day's access. Start with the cypress boardwalk, then confirm the boat ticket type and boarding arrangement at the ticket point before taking the boat into the core water area. After returning to shore, add the small-animal area or paths toward the lotus-pond side if time allows, and return along the open route. Walking distances and the need for a sightseeing vehicle can differ by entrance.

The 1.5–2 hour short route

Enter from the West Gate, walk quickly to the cypress boardwalk, complete the water-forest section, and take the boat before returning in the direction of the entrance. Skip the larger lotus-pond area and small-animal area to keep the focus on the cypress forest, boardwalk, and water. Boat departures, boarding point, and package contents follow the day's ticket arrangements.

Work backward from the return

Visitors using public transport should confirm the departure direction and taxi pick-up point as soon as they enter. Then work backward from the return to set the end time for the boat, boardwalk, and optional areas. If the boat wait becomes longer, keep the cypress boardwalk and return transport first; add the lotus pond or small-animal area only when there is spare time.

Get there

Driving and the entrances

Navigate to “Chishan Lake National Wetland Park,” then select the East or West Gate according to the season and your priority. Both gates have free parking. Check the East Gate first for the lotus pond and wetland restaurant; check the West Gate first if you want to shorten the walk to the cypress forest. Use whichever entrance is open that day.

Public transport and the return

Take Metro Line S8 to Xiongzhou Station, then take a taxi for about 30 minutes to the park. The park is relatively remote, and a last-minute return taxi may be difficult. Public-transport visitors should confirm the return ride method and waiting point as soon as they arrive.

First action after arrival

After getting off or parking, confirm which gate is open, where the boat ticket counter is, and where to board before buying a package. If the return taxi is uncertain, ask near the entrance, restaurant, or visitor center where vehicles can wait. When leaving, follow the signs to the actual pick-up area rather than assuming the drop-off point is also the return point.

Know before you go

Ticket and package contents

Admission, the boat, and the sightseeing vehicle may be sold separately or in different packages. Confirm exactly what each package includes; the sightseeing vehicle is approximately CNY 15 per person by reference, and whether it is useful depends on the entrance and the paths open that day. Compare the included benefits before comparing total prices.

Opening boundaries and seasonal scenery

Night activities are a separate arrangement from daytime boats and paths and are not part of the fixed route. If a night opening is announced on site, confirm its entrance, hours, and ticket separately. Enter during the day preferably before 16:00. Lotus flowers, cypress colour, red leaves, and migratory birds all have seasonal windows, so adjust expectations to the day's weather and natural conditions.

Insects, food, and the return

Mosquitoes are common around the cypress forest and wetlands, so carry repellent before entering the wooded areas. The East Gate area has snacks such as shaobing, while Lai'an County town offers more food choices. Drivers can eat in town before returning; public-transport visitors should deal with the return ride first so they are not left after closing.

Paths and weather

Wetland boardwalks, forest-floor paths, and waterside areas feel different underfoot. Slow down after rain or in strong wind, and keep children close instead of concentrating only on photographing the water forest. Birdwatching, lotus flowers, and red leaves are not fixed year-round displays. Before leaving, check your belongings and return vehicle, then exit in the direction of a confirmed gate.
