Plan at a glance

A public-access scenic area reached from the south gate

Bangchuidao Scenic Area is at No. 1 Yingbin Road, Zhongshan District. Visitors usually buy tickets at the “Bangchuidao Scenic Area South Gate.” The public visit focuses on landscaped grounds, the beach and open trails, with views across the water toward Bangchuidao Island. Follow the scenic area’s notices for the areas open that day.

The scenic area is open from 08:00 to 17:00; aim to enter before 16:00. Under a Dalian Development and Reform Commission pricing decision published on 21 January 2025, the maximum ticket price is CNY 40 per person in peak season and CNY 10 per person in the off-season. These are price ceilings, not guaranteed prices for every date. Check the official notice for your visit date for the season dates, actual fare and discount eligibility.

Choose between the shuttle and walking

A sightseeing bus runs from the south gate to the beach; the indicative one-way fare is CNY 10, and a visit there takes about 1–2 hours. The walking route descends from the south gate along a tree-lined road to the beach, then follows open coastal paths toward Wanghai Pavilion and back. Allow 4–5 hours for the full walk. The return to the south gate is usually uphill and more strenuous than the walk down.

Choose your visit

Pebble beach and views of the island

From the beach, you can see the shoreline and Bangchuidao Island offshore. The beach is covered in pebbles, so shoes make walking more comfortable. The sea’s color changes with the light, and it will not look the same shade of blue-green every day.

Garden paths and the coastal boardwalk

Walk from the south gate along the tree-lined road toward the beach, enjoying the garden scenery along the way. At the beach, follow the open boardwalk toward Wanghai Pavilion. The route back to the south gate is mainly uphill and takes more effort than the walk down. The uneven pebbles are easier to walk on in shoes; the beach and boardwalk both offer places to take in the view.

The longer route suits visitors who are comfortable with an uphill return and want to see both the gardens and beach. If you mainly want to see the sea and photograph the shore, take the shuttle directly to the beach.

Build your day

One to two hours: shuttle to the beach and back

Buy a ticket at the south gate and take the sightseeing bus to the beach. Walk along the pebble shore and look toward Bangchuidao Island, then walk back to the shuttle stop for the return ride or follow the uphill road to the south gate on foot. Allow about 1–2 hours. The indicative one-way fare is CNY 10; rides uphill and downhill are charged separately, and service depends on that day’s operation.

Four to five hours: walk through the gardens and along the coast

From the south gate, follow the open tree-lined road downhill to the beach; allow about 20–30 minutes. From the shore, follow the open coastal path toward Wanghai Pavilion and back to the beach area. The walk back to the south gate is usually uphill and more strenuous than the way in. If the sightseeing bus is running that day, you can take it back to the gate. Allow 4–5 hours for the full visit, adjusting for open trails and your pace.

Public access has not been confirmed for the trail beyond Wanghai Pavilion into Haizhiyun Park. To visit Haizhiyun Park, use its regular public entrance.

Get there

Getting to the south gate

Navigate to “Bangchuidao Scenic Area South Gate,” where tickets are sold and the sightseeing bus departs. From Hǎizhiyun or Donggang Station on Metro Line 2, take a taxi for about 15–20 minutes. Buses 31, 712 and 901 stop nearby, but you will still need to walk part of the way.

Know before you go

Beach, trails and public-access boundaries

The pebble beach is uneven; wear shoes and stay on the scenic area’s open routes. Your ticket covers the public-access area on shore. It does not include access to the island or restricted hotel and villa grounds.

Closing time and return transport

The scenic area closes at 17:00 and clears visitors from the grounds. Many people leave around closing time, so taxis at the gate may be difficult to find. Arrange your return in advance. Amber Bay, Shicao and Haizhiyun Park require separate route planning.
