How to Visit
1

Treat it as a stop along G315 rather than a dedicated journey

No direct metro, and there is no dependable direct public transport. Travel by self-drive car or private hire from Golmud or Dachaidan along G315, linking East Taijinar Lake with other stops in the same direction. This is an open lake shore rather than a fully serviced enclosed attraction, and water levels and accessible shoreline can change.

Tip:Do not plan a long return journey solely for this lake. Treating it as a route stop avoids disrupting the trip if the lake is smaller or less colourful than expected.
2

Use an allowed parking and viewing area

Park only in an available public parking or viewing area, then approach the lake on existing paths or firm ground. There is no standard admission ticket, though a local parking or sanitation charge may apply. Allow 1-3 hours, though a reduced lake area may shorten the visit.

Tip:Do not drive onto salt crust, soft ground, or close to the shoreline based on an old navigation pin or photographs. Ground strength is hard to judge and getting stuck can disrupt the entire journey.
3

View and photograph from the safe shore

Photograph the blue-green water, white salt flats, and Gobi setting from a safe shoreline, then return by the same route. Earlier morning or later afternoon light is usually better for lake colour. Bring sun protection, a windproof layer, water, and closed shoes.

Tip:The mineral-rich brine is not for swimming or prolonged skin contact. Salt crust and wet shore can be unstable, so do not walk onto them for a closer photograph.
4

Leave before dark and prepare for the next long drive

Return to G315, check fuel, water, and navigation, then continue to your next overnight stop or toward Wusute Water Yadan. Shops, toilets, and reliable signal are limited around the lake. Take all rubbish with you and use towns for meals and fuel.

Tip:Do not stop in driving lanes, U-shaped-road sections, or heavy-vehicle areas for photos. Crosswinds, long distances, and trucks make a quick roadside stop disproportionately risky.
Highlights
  • Blue-green water and white salt flats create a distinct colour contrast on clear days.
  • The open Gobi setting makes it a concise, practical stop on a long G315 route.
  • Water level, shoreline, and colour may differ substantially between visits.
  • Its direction of travel works well with Wusute Water Yadan, reducing unnecessary backtracking.
Insider Tips

Do not use old photos as a promise of current conditions; assess the lake as it appears on the day.

Free entry does not mean full services, so arrange fuel, water, food, and toilets in town.

Sunglasses and high-SPF sun protection are essential on the reflective salt flats.

Keep vehicles off the lakeshore and any salt-crust ground without an established route.

Photograph road scenery only from safe permitted areas, never from a live traffic lane.
