How to Visit
1

Choose the main ticket and route

Buy the main admission ticket for Nanyue Mount Hengshan Scenic Area, then choose between a full hike and the eco-shuttle plus a summit walk.

Tip:Nanyue Grand Temple is a separate attraction at the foot of the mountain and has its own ticket.
2

Reserve the eco-shuttle if using it

Book an eco-shuttle time slot through the Nanyue One-Code Tour (南岳一码游) mini-program or a ticket window, then bring your passport, ID, or booking QR code.

Tip:Slots are limited, so arrive around 10 minutes early for pre-boarding screening.
3

Walk up from Nantianmen

The eco-shuttle covers most of the elevation gain, but the walk from the Nantianmen area to Zhurong Peak still takes 40-60 minutes on sustained uphill steps.

Tip:This final section is not an easy stroll, so keep water and energy for it.
4

Allow time for a full hike if skipping the shuttle

A full hike from the foot of the mountain usually takes 4.5-5.5 hours to Zhurong Peak.

Tip:Use the shuttle route if you prefer to save your energy for the upper mountain walk.
5

Plan the descent before lingering at the summit

Return to Nantianmen before descending and work backward from your booked eco-shuttle time when deciding when to leave the summit.

Tip:Do not assume that a later shuttle slot will be available if you miss the one you booked.
Highlights
  • The central scenic-area ticket covers the main mountain route from the lower entrance through the mid-mountain section toward the summit.
  • A full hike follows wooded old paths, stone steps, and mountain service stops, creating a very different experience from riding most of the way up.
  • The final climb above Nantianmen still requires sustained uphill walking, even after using the eco-shuttle for most of the ascent.
  • Zhurong Peak is the route's final destination, so summit views, the temple, and the descent should be planned as one block of time.
  • Visibility changes greatly with cloud and mist: clear weather suits long views, while misty weather is better for a closer mountain experience.
Insider Tips

Keep the central scenic-area ticket, eco-shuttle ticket, and Nanyue Grand Temple ticket separate when planning what to buy.

In busy periods, secure an eco-shuttle slot first. If no suitable slot remains, reassess the time needed to hike rather than treating the queue as a minor delay.

Wear shoes with good grip and carry water, rain protection, and an extra warm layer; wind and temperature at the summit can feel very different from the foot of the mountain.

Rain, mist, strong wind, or ice can make roads and steps more hazardous. Stay on signed routes and do not rush over wet surfaces to catch transport.

Treat sunrise as an additional plan rather than the default for a day trip. If staying overnight, arrange both accommodation and next-day descent transport first.
