How to Visit
1

Enter through the main scenic-area route

Treat Zhurong Peak as the final destination of the main Mount Hengshan route, not as a separately ticketed attraction.

Tip:Choose either a full hike or the eco-shuttle to Nantianmen followed by a walk.
2

Choose the route that fits your stamina

Plan 4.5-5.5 hours for a full ascent hike. The easier route uses the eco-shuttle for most of the climb, followed by a 40-60 minute walk from Nantianmen.

Tip:The upper walk remains a real uphill climb even when you use the shuttle.
3

Use the summit in a practical order

Take in the views first, then visit Zhurong Hall and rest briefly.

Tip:Summit space is limited, so do not leave every photo, temple visit, and break until the final part of the day.
4

Turn back early enough for the descent

Return to Nantianmen and follow your reserved shuttle arrangement down the mountain.

Tip:If your energy level or the weather makes the summit unsuitable, do not force the climb.
5

Stay on the main route

Avoid unsigned back-mountain paths and vehicle roads.

Tip:The main route is better suited to first-time visitors and makes it easier to manage effort and descent time.
Highlights
  • Zhurong Peak is the main summit of Mount Hengshan, making the ascent itself the clearest goal of the route.
  • From the top, you can look across successive ridgelines; clearing weather after rain may bring changing cloud views, but this is never guaranteed.
  • Zhurong Hall adds a cultural stop at the summit, so the visit is more than a physical climb.
  • The final stone steps create a clear sense of arrival, with the summit view as the reward rather than a rushed stop.
  • Early morning and evening feel cold at the summit, where the light differs greatly from conditions at the foot of the mountain.
Insider Tips

Zhurong Peak is the summit destination, while Zhurong Hall is the summit temple. Visit them together, but do not treat them as one separately ticketed attraction.

Do not regard a night climb or sunrise visit as a routine low-risk option. Poor visibility, wet steps, and strong summit winds increase the difficulty.

If staying near the summit, arrange accommodation and next-day descent first. A last-minute tent is poorly suited to a windy, damp summit.

Bring a windproof warm layer even in summer; rain protection and shoes with good grip matter more than extra camera equipment.

If cloud lowers suddenly or you feel unwell, return to Nantianmen rather than delaying the descent for one more photo.
