How to Visit
1

Plan it as an optional side route near South Peak

The Plank Walk sits on the east side of South Peak and is not required for moving between the main peaks. Add it only when the weather is stable, you have enough time, and your physical condition feels good.

Tip:If queues are long, slots are tight, or your body does not feel ready, you can continue with South Peak and the main peak route without losing the core Huashan visit.
2

Check same-day reservation after reaching the summit area

The Plank Walk usually requires an official safety-harness rental reservation, with slots, sessions, and opening status controlled by the scenic area.

Tip:Check availability early after entering the main peak area, and avoid placing it right before your cableway or descent deadline.
3

Allow time for queues and safety gear

At the entrance, you may need to verify the reservation, wait in line, put on safety equipment, and enter only when staff allow.

Tip:From queueing to returning, allow around 1-2 hours; holidays, good weather, and crowd control can make it longer.
4

Move slowly and follow staff instructions

Keep both hands available, use the safety equipment as directed, avoid handheld phone filming, and do not stop for long in narrow sections.

Tip:The priority here is steady movement through the route, and photography should follow the site's safety requirements.
5

Return to the entrance before rejoining the main peak route

After the experience, you usually return to the entrance, then continue toward South Peak, East Peak, or your descent route.

Tip:If wind, rain, snow, ice, failed reservation, or a temporary closure affects the route, continue with your original main-peak plan.
Highlights
  • A cliffside route near South Peak with clear views of Huashan's vertical rock faces, deep valleys, and steep terrain.
  • The route combines stone steps, chains, wooden planks, and movement along the cliff wall.
  • It is a paid safety-equipment experience, not part of the standard main-peak walking route.
  • On clear days, the South Peak area gives a stronger sense of the mountain's height and valley depth.
  • Safety equipment and staff management are provided, but visitors still need to meet the height, age, health, and weather-related requirements.
Insider Tips

The usual requirements are height above 150 cm, age 15-55, and good health; follow the current rule enforced on the day.

Visitors with heart disease, high blood pressure, coronary conditions, strong fear of heights, physical discomfort, or obvious fatigue should not join.

Reservation, queueing, and opening status depend on same-day crowds and weather, so do not make your descent schedule too tight.

Wear non-slip shoes; avoid skirts, slippers, sandals, and high heels. Light gloves and a phone lanyard can help.

Mountain weather changes quickly. Wind, rain, snow, ice, or poor visibility may lead to closure or crowd control.
