How to Visit
1

Decide whether East Peak is mainly for sunrise

East Peak is known for sunrise at Chaoyang Platform, but seeing it usually requires a night hike or staying on the mountain.

Tip:If you are doing a one-day cableway visit, you do not need to force East Peak into the center of the route.
2

Visit East Peak after South Peak on a daytime circuit

On the West-up, North-down route, East Peak usually comes after South Peak and before Central Peak.

Tip:This section has ups and downs, so allow time based on mountain walking, not flat walking.
3

Use Chaoyang Platform for the view, not only photos

Chaoyang Platform is the main viewpoint on East Peak, and crowds gather there in the early morning.

Tip:Even if you are not watching sunrise, it is still a useful daytime stop for seeing the ridges and the structure of the main peak area.
4

Treat Yaozi Fanshen as an optional cliff route

Yaozi Fanshen is near the East Peak area and requires a separate judgment of stamina, courage, and on-site opening conditions.

Tip:You can skip the cliff route and still continue on the main path to complete East Peak.
Highlights
  • Chaoyang Platform is East Peak's key viewpoint, especially for sunrise and layered ridge views.
  • Yang Gong Tower is a clear cultural landmark on East Peak.
  • Huayue Xianzhang is a traditional Huashan sight on the cliff near East Peak.
  • The Chess Pavilion and its related story give East Peak more than just scenery.
  • East Peak works best as part of a full circuit and does not always need a separate out-and-back plan.
Insider Tips

If you want to see sunrise, check the weather first. Rain, fog, and heavy cloud can ruin the view.

A night hike requires more stamina and warmer clothing, so do not decide on it casually.

Chaoyang Platform gets crowded in the early morning. Tripods and large gear can block the path.

Do not force Yaozi Fanshen. If you fear heights, lack arm strength, or the weather is poor, use the main route.

A power bank and headlamp are important for night hikers. Do not leave phone battery only for photos.
