How to Visit
1

Use Yuquan Temple as a foothill buffer before the climb

If you are taking the traditional hiking route, this is where the ancient single path up Mount Hua begins. If you are not hiking, treat it as a 1-2 hour cultural stop rather than a core part of the main Mount Hua route.

Tip:This stop works best as a calm introduction to the mountain, not as a replacement for the main peak route.
2

Reach it lightly from the visitor center or station

You can take the shuttle from the Mount Hua Visitor Center or use a taxi from Huashan North Railway Station or Huashan Railway Station.

Tip:If your schedule is tight, do not make a long detour just for this stop.
3

Walk through the temple grounds before deciding whether to continue uphill

Inside, look for Xiyi Cave, Wuyou Pavilion, the Seventy-Two Corridor, the First Mountain stele, and cliff inscriptions.

Tip:The pace is much calmer than the main peaks, making it a useful mental and physical transition before the climb.
4

Prepare your gear first if you start a night hike or full hike here

The Yuquan Temple area can be your last practical supply point before the hiking route. Bring non-slip shoes, gloves, a headlamp or flashlight, and a small amount of water and food.

Tip:Hiking from here to North Peak takes a long time and is much more demanding than a cableway route.
Highlights
  • The traditional starting point for hiking Mount Hua, useful for understanding the ancient single path up Mount Hua background.
  • A mix of Taoist temple architecture and garden space, with a quieter mood than the main peak routes.
  • Xiyi Cave and the Chen Tuan legend give the temple its clearest cultural identity.
  • The Seventy-Two Corridor, lattice windows, and courtyard turns reward a slow walk rather than a rushed photo stop.
  • The First Mountain stele and cliff inscriptions add historical texture beyond Mount Hua's mountain scenery.
Insider Tips

Even if you are not hiking, Yuquan Temple can work as a short foothill stop rather than something you force into a high-intensity Mount Hua route.

If you plan a night hike, think of Yuquan Temple more as a starting point and supply stop than an easy sightseeing endpoint.

During holidays, the hiking route from Yuquan Temple can get much busier, so allow extra time for queues and slow movement.

The temple itself feels best with 1-2 hours; shorten the stop if you need to catch a cableway or train.

It works better before the climb. After a tiring mountain route, returning just to explore it in detail may feel like too much.
