Plan at a glance

Location, entrance and scope

Huangmanzhai Waterfall is in Cukeng Village, Jingxiyuan Town, Jiexi County, Jieyang. The practical entrance is the visitor centre for Huangmanzhai Waterfall Group. From there, you can choose a shorter route to the main waterfalls or continue on the longer downhill route.

Tickets and opening hours

Plan around an 08:30–17:00 opening window; last entry is at 16:40 and the site is cleared at around 17:30. An adult online ticket is around CNY 80–85 and the gate ticket is around CNY 90; student, senior and child tickets are around CNY 40, while children under 1.2 metres enter free. Use the ticket type and price shown when you book as the final reference.

What kind of visit suits you

The easier route takes about 2–2.5 hours and suits visitors travelling with older people or children, as well as anyone with limited time. The full route takes about 3.5–4 hours and includes around 1,680 steps, so it is better for first-time visitors who are comfortable with a long downhill walk and wet surfaces.

Choose your visit

A group of five waterfalls

Huangmanzhai is not just one viewing platform but a series of waterfalls spread along the mountain slope. Feihong Waterfall is about 82 metres wide with a drop of around 56 metres; Luojiutian Waterfall has a vertical drop of more than 120 metres; and Yinheku Waterfall is set among rocks and water channels. Sandiegu and Doufangku are better places to notice streams, pools and the surrounding woodland.

Landscapes for photography

On a sunny day, the area around Feihong Waterfall has a better chance of showing a rainbow in the mist between 09:00 and 11:00 or when afternoon sunlight reaches the falls at an angle. The timing depends on weather, light and water volume. The viewing platform at Luojiutian is close to the falling water, so the spray and sound are stronger; protect your phone or camera before you approach.

Who it suits

This stop is best for visitors who enjoy streams, waterfalls and walking in a mountain valley. Older people, children and anyone who wants to avoid a long climb can see Feihong and Yinheku and return; visitors who want to see several waterfalls in one visit need to allow for long stair sections and a walk after the descent.

Build your day

The 2–2.5-hour easier route

Start at the visitor centre, continue to Feihong Waterfall and then Yinheku Waterfall, before returning by the same path or a gentler greenway. It covers the main views with fewer steep slopes and steps, leaving more time for photos and breaks.

The 3.5–4-hour full route

The full route can follow this order: visitor centre → Feihong Waterfall → Yinheku Waterfall → Luojiutian Waterfall → Sandiegu Waterfall → Doufangku Waterfall → downhill greenway exit. It has around 1,680 steps and generally follows the stream downhill, so you usually do not need to retrace your steps. Visitors with average fitness should allow a full half-day and avoid booking a tight follow-up schedule.

Pacing and return

On the way down, follow the signs to the greenway exit where possible. Some sections are easier than returning on the same path, and the scenery is different. Do not estimate the timing from map distance alone: wet steps, photo stops and passing other visitors can all make the route take longer.

Get there

Driving and public transport

Driving is the most practical option; navigate to “Huangmanzhai Waterfall Group Tourist Area”. From Guangzhou or Shenzhen, allow about 3.5–4 hours; from Shantou or Jieyang city, allow about 1.5–2 hours. From Jieyang Railway Station, a taxi takes about one hour. You can also travel to Jiexi Coach Station and change to a local bus, but services are limited.

Parking

There is a large open-air parking area outside the visitor centre, but the parking charge may vary by parking area or time of day, so CNY 10 per day should not be treated as a fixed price. Follow the on-site directions and use a proper parking space; do not leave the car on villagers’ private land or in an area without clear visitor access.

Know before you go

Shoes, clothing, supplies and safety

The stone steps, boardwalks and rocks around the waterfalls are often wet. Wear shoes with good grip and do not wear flip-flops. Mountain temperatures can feel around 5°C lower than in the city, so bring a light jacket, insect repellent and a waterproof phone pouch. There are few shops inside the scenic area, so it is best to carry around 2 litres of water and a small amount of energy food.

Season and water volume

Water levels are usually higher from May to September. A clear period after rain may increase the chance of seeing a rainbow, but the force of the waterfalls, rainbow timing and slipperiness of the paths all depend on recent weather. Water levels can be lower in January and February, so consider both the season and the forecast if waterfall volume matters to you.

Food and onward travel

There are local restaurants outside the scenic area, but some may have fewer dishes available later in the afternoon, so do not leave your main meal too late. Huangmanzhai is in Jiexi; reaching Yinggeqing Theater or De'anli in Puning requires a separate taxi or driving transfer and should not be planned as a city walking connection.
