Plan at a glance
Old-city area and opening hours
Jieyang Ancient City is the public old-city area centred on Jinxian Gate Tower, Zhongshan Road Arcade Street and the surrounding traditional lanes. The streets are free to enter, with no reservation required, but there is no single operator responsible for every shop, temple, museum and indoor display. Each indoor venue sets its own opening and closure schedule.
Entrances and transport
Jinxian Gate Tower is a practical landmark starting point, while the junction of Sixian Road and Zhongshan Road is another useful entry area. The lanes are narrow and parking is limited, so park outside and continue on foot or by shared electric bicycle. A taxi from Jieyang Railway Station takes about 20 minutes; from Chaoshan Station, the high-speed rail shuttle takes about one hour.
How long to allow
Allow 2–3 hours for a route covering the main landmarks, or 4–5 hours if this is your first visit and you want to combine architecture, temples, craft shops and local food. Starting in the late afternoon gives you about two hours for Zhongshan Arcade Street, Jinxian Gate at night, Stone Lion Bridge and evening snacks around Sixian Road.

A city best understood on foot
The ancient city works at a walking scale. Jinxian Gate provides the landmark entrance, Jieyang Confucian Temple and City God Temple add traditional architecture and religious spaces, and Zhongshan Arcade Street connects buildings with shops and daily life. This page explains the public walking area and combinations; it does not replace the detailed rules for each individual attraction.
Architecture, crafts and daily life
The arcade buildings on Zhongshan Road, the metalwork shops on Datong Street, the local customs around Stone Lion Bridge and the snacks around Sixian Road can be woven into one walk. The appeal comes from the changing streets rather than one single viewpoint, so choose a shorter route if needed instead of trying to visit every corner.
Who it suits
The ancient city suits visitors who enjoy city walks, local food and historic buildings, as well as first-time visitors who want to understand daily life in Jieyang in half a day. If you have a specific indoor venue or temple in mind, list its opening hours separately rather than planning everything around the fact that the public streets are open all day.
Build your day
The 2–3-hour quick loop
Start at Jinxian Gate Tower, walk to Jieyang Confucian Temple, continue to Jieyang City God Temple, then follow Zhongshan Arcade Street for food and return. The route stays within the old-city core and suits first-time visitors with limited time. Each individual attraction still has its own entrance and opening arrangements.
The 4–5-hour Citywalk
A fuller walking order is: Jinxian Gate Tower → Jieyang Confucian Temple → Sixian Road → Datong Street → Stone Lion Bridge → Jieyang City God Temple → Shuangfeng Temple → the Rongjiang riverside. This route combines architecture, crafts, religious spaces and a riverside stop, and works well from afternoon into evening. Adjust the order around the opening hours of the indoor attractions.
The two-hour evening route
At around 17:30, start with Zhongshan Arcade Street. Depending on the lighting that evening, continue to Jinxian Gate and Shuangfeng Temple, then finish at Stone Lion Bridge and the snack streets around Sixian Road. The 18:00–22:00 lighting period is a useful photography window, not a unified timetable for lights, festivals or food stalls.
Get there
Parking outside the old city
By car, consider the underground parking at Jinxian Book City, the free car park near the law-enforcement bureau or the Confucian Temple car park, then walk into the old city. On public holidays, park outside rather than driving into the narrow lanes around Zhongshan Road and Datong Street. Shared electric bicycles can connect more distant entrances, but dismount and walk through crowded sections.
High-speed rail and movement inside the city
A taxi from Jieyang Railway Station to the old city takes about 20 minutes. Once inside the core area, walking is best for seeing the arcade facades and lanes. For farther attractions such as Jieyang Tower or Rongjiang West Lake, use a taxi or shared electric bicycle according to the weather and your energy; do not make old-city parking your main transport plan.
Know before you go
No shared ticket or shared opening schedule
The old-city streets are free to enter, but the Confucian Temple, City God Temple, gate tower, shops, restaurants and indoor displays set their own hours. The public streets may be accessible all day without every building being open, and the closure of one attraction does not close the whole district.
Traffic, construction and timing
Parking is limited inside the old city, and some sections may have construction barriers; Datong Street and the area around the Green Lion cultural site may require a detour. Starting after 16:00 is usually more comfortable and connects with sunset and night views. During the Spring Festival, Yingge performances and the Xingcai Bridge custom can bring larger crowds.
Food planning
Beef hot pot, rice-noodle soup, salted-vegetable chicken wings, Xianxing sweet soup, salted egg yolk in caramel and sugar-onion pancakes can all be fitted into the walking route. Taste and queues vary from day to day, so do not treat one shop as a guaranteed stop; decide whether to queue after seeing local demand and considering your time.
