Location and access scope

Jieyang Tower is at No. 193 Yanjiang Middle Road in Rongcheng District, Jieyang. The practical entrance is the main gate of Jieyang Tower Square. The square and exterior areas are free and open around the clock. The main building usually follows a 09:00–17:00 schedule, but it is often behind repair hoarding, so climbing and interior access cannot be treated as fixed.

How long to allow

Allow 30–60 minutes for the square, the bronze ding and the exterior architecture. If you use Jieyang Tower as the starting point for a route from the riverfront to the old city, allow another 3–4 hours for Jinxian Gate Tower, Jieyang Confucian Temple, Zhongshan Arcade Street and Jieyang City God Temple.

How to plan the visit

Jieyang Tower works well as an open-air landmark stop at sunset or while waiting for the lights to come on. The square may be accessible even when the main building is closed. Treat the exterior visit as the reliable part of the plan, and the interior exhibitions or tower access as possible additions.

Choose your visit

Han-style architecture and the square

Jieyang Tower follows a Han-style palace form and is about 130 metres wide and 39 metres high. Its eaves, roof brackets and water-surrounded layout are easiest to understand from a distance. The 9.99-metre bronze ding, weighing around 58 tonnes, is the most recognisable object in the square; view it separately from the building and the water features rather than stopping only in front of the main facade.

The “Lotus on Water” layout

The water around the main building and the square create a lotus-like composition. Some positions allow you to photograph the building’s reflection or the lotus pattern on the ground. The water, lighting and viewpoints depend on weather, maintenance and crowds, so treat this as an open photography area rather than a fixed performance venue.

Who it suits

The square suits visitors who want a city landmark, large-scale architecture or a short open-air stop with children. Visitors interested in the interior exhibition, tower access or a specific folk performance should plan those separately from the exterior visit. An open square does not mean that every part of the attraction is open.

Build your day

The 30–60-minute square route

Enter through the main gate, take a full view of Jieyang Tower from a distance, then continue to the bronze ding and the water-surrounded area to see the “Lotus on Water” layout. If you arrive near sunset, stay until the lights come on before leaving through the same entrance. If the main building is closed, there is no need to search for another interior entrance.

The 3–4-hour riverfront-to-old-city route

Follow this order: Jieyang Tower → Rongjiang riverside → Jinxian Gate TowerJieyang Confucian TempleZhongshan Arcade StreetJieyang City God Temple. Jieyang Tower is a separate riverside landmark, while the later stops are in the old-city area. Choose between walking, a shared electric bicycle and a short taxi ride according to the weather and your energy.

Evening pacing

17:30–20:00 works well for combining sunset, the building exterior and the lights. Weekend fountains, light shows and Spring Festival Yingge performances may occur, but they are not daily fixed programmes. On an ordinary date, do not expect a full light show or folk performance.

Get there

Bus, rail and driving

Take bus route 10, New Energy Route 2 or route 3 to Jieyang Tower Station. A taxi from Jieyang Railway Station takes about 15–20 minutes. By car, navigate to “Jieyang Tower Square”; the side road beside the square and nearby parking areas are possible options, but spaces are tighter on public holidays.

Parking and onward travel

There are free parking spaces on the side road beside the square, but availability is not guaranteed and stopping in a no-parking area is not allowed. If you plan to continue into the old city, park legally and then walk or use a shared electric bicycle. Avoid driving into the narrow old-city lanes.

Know before you go

Repairs and access boundaries

The main building may be behind repair hoarding, with no access to the upper floors or interior exhibition. The square and exterior visit can still be complete on their own. Do not treat tower access, interior views or a particular exhibition as guaranteed, and do not assume that hoarding around the building means the entire square is closed.

Light and event changes

The front of the building can be backlit in the afternoon; evening is better for the outline and reflections. Lighting, fountains, festival performances and Spring Festival Yingge shows can change by date. On ordinary days, do not expect every light feature or a folk performance to be running.
