Plan at a glance

Location and arrival point

Yunqiu Mountain is in Guanwangmiao Township, Xiangning County, Linfen. Enter “Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area” or “Yunqiu Mountain Visitor Centre” in your navigation app. The scenic area is large, so allow time for mountain roads and transfers between sights. It works best as a full-day mountain destination.

How the tickets work

The main admission ticket costs CNY 80 per person, and the round-trip shuttle costs CNY 20 per person; visitors usually buy them together. The Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Cave costs an additional CNY 120 per person. The cable car, glass bridge and other activities may charge separately. Check each ticket's price and coverage when buying rather than assuming that a bundled ticket includes every activity.

Opening and time needed

Peak season is roughly April to October, and typical opening hours are around 08:00–18:00, subject to the day's operating arrangements. Allow about 3–4 hours for an easier front-mountain visit. A deeper route with the back mountain, cable car and more walking needs 1–2 days, and staying inside the scenic area gives you enough time to complete it.

Choose your visit

Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Cave

The ice cave is Yunqiu Mountain's most concentrated signature attraction. The temperature stays low inside, with ice pillars, ice stalagmites and hanging ice formations. Warm or padded coats and safety helmets may be available, and the visit takes about 20–30 minutes. If you are sensitive to cold, confined spaces or repeated steps, ask about the day's access and walking conditions before buying.

Ta'erpo and Kangjiaping ancient villages

Ta'erpo Ancient Village is built along the mountain and may have folk performances, craft workshops and snacks. Kangjiaping is better for a slower walk among lawns, fountains, a reading room and village buildings. Both villages require walking or an internal transfer; the parking lot is not at the village entrance, so follow the scenic-area route once inside.

Shenxianyu and the back-mountain views

Shenxianyu is a wooded gorge where a slower pace works well. Yuhuangding has open mountain views, while Zushiding looks towards the surrounding peaks. A clear morning after rain may bring a sea of clouds, and autumn colour is common from late September into October. Weather and seasonal scenery vary, so treat these as possibilities rather than guaranteed views.

Yuanyang Bridge and suitable visitors

Yuanyang Bridge is a transparent glass bridge. Decide whether to include it based on your comfort with heights and a clear floor beneath your feet. A full visit suits visitors who enjoy mountain scenery, can manage many steps and are comfortable with several transfers. With older people, young children or anyone with limited mobility, the front-mountain short route is easier; choose the ice cave, cable car and glass bridge one by one.

For a separate mountain temple route, see Puxian Dongyue Temple.

For another western Linfen heritage day, see Xiaoxitian Temple.

Build your day

Front-mountain short route: Shenxianyu to the ice cave

Buy your ticket at the visitor centre and take the shuttle towards the front mountain. Visit Shenxianyu first, continue to Ta'erpo Ancient Village, then make the Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Cave the main stop before returning by shuttle according to the signs. The route takes about 3–4 hours and still includes steps and walking, so estimate the route around the stamina of older visitors and children.

Full-area route: back mountain to front mountain

If you are staying overnight or have plenty of energy, take the shuttle to the back mountain first. If it is operating, ride the Yuhuangding cable car, visit Yuhuangding and Yuanyang Bridge, then walk downhill past the Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Cave and Ta'erpo Ancient Village before returning to the visitor centre. For this fuller route, allow 1–2 days; the cable car, ice cave, village access and shuttles all depend on the day's operating conditions.

Pace and return trip

You may need several shuttle-bus and battery-cart transfers inside the scenic area. Check the direction at each stop before boarding. The downhill section from the back mountain is long and can be steep. For a same-day self-drive trip, the front-mountain short route leaves more time for the mountain-road drive home; the full area is better suited to an overnight stay.

Get there

Driving

The drive from central Linfen takes about 1.5–2 hours, and parking costs about CNY 10 per day. There are many mountain roads, so arrive during daylight. In rain, snow or poor visibility, check the road and scenic-area conditions before deciding whether to go up the mountain.

Public transport

A tourist shuttle runs from Linfen West Railway Station to Yunqiu Mountain, but departures may be limited. It is best used as a day-trip product confirmed in advance through a travel platform or local operator. Without a confirmed return departure, do not rely only on your arrival train and try to enter the mountain at the last minute.

Moving around inside the scenic area

The visitor centre is the main point for transfers and directions. Shuttles cover the longer distances between sights, but the ice cave, villages, cable-car station and mountain viewpoints still involve walking. When buying tickets, check the main admission, shuttle and optional activities separately.

Know before you go

Weather and mountain paths

Mountain weather affects the sea of clouds, autumn colour, cable car, glass bridge and trails. Wear shoes with good grip for steps, downhill paths and gorge sections. The cable car and shuttles cover only part of the area; visitors with limited mobility should ask which stops are reachable that day and how much walking remains.

Staying warm in the ice cave

The cave is very cold, and the visit takes about 20–30 minutes. Whether jackets and safety helmets are provided, and whether the available sizes fit, depends on the on-site arrangement. Watch for slippery ground when moving between warm and cold areas, and follow the cave's photography rules.

Bundles, accommodation and food

Confirm the combined price and opening scope of the admission ticket, shuttle, ice cave, cable car and glass bridge before departure. Accommodation in the scenic-area villages may have its own relationship with the first-entry ticket; check any discount separately rather than budgeting around a fixed offer. Ta'erpo Ancient Village has Yunqiu Snack Street, with local food such as hand-pulled noodles, Xiangning oil cakes and tofu pudding. Arrange accommodation and the return trip in advance for a two-day visit.
