Plan at a glance

Location, entrance, and relocated buildings

Wuping Baijia Courtyard is at 199 Zhongshan Road, Zhongshan Town, Wuping County, Longyan, Fujian. It is in Wuping, not Changting. The compound contains 103 Ming- and Qing-dynasty buildings that were relocated to this site. The entrance is the visitor centre.

The site focuses on relocated historic buildings, surname ancestral halls, wood and brick carving, and folk-culture displays. Not all 103 buildings are open at the same time. Some courtyards, exhibition halls, or passages may close for maintenance, events, or daily management.

Day session, night session, and tickets

An adult ticket costs about CNY 59 per person, and an online double ticket costs about CNY 89. Children under 1.2 metres and visitors aged 65 or over enter free. Whether the night session has a separate price or needs another ticket depends on that day's notice.

The day session usually runs 8:30-18:00, with final entry at 17:30. The night session usually runs 18:00-22:00, with final entry at 21:30. Night lanterns and night performances are not the same product, and whether a performance is scheduled must be confirmed separately.

The 103 relocated buildings and surname courtyards

The core appeal is the concentrated group of relocated Ming- and Qing-dynasty buildings. Upturned eaves, bracket sets, brick and wood carving, and surname ancestral halls reward slow observation. Individual courtyards may have their own couplets and family information.

The buildings contain genuine historic components as well as display and commercial spaces. Stay in the open areas, do not climb the building frames, do not lean on carved details, and do not enter courtyards marked as closed.

Blessing Pavilion, craft halls, and medicine culture

Blessing Pavilion displays the Hundred Blessings design, zodiac animal heads, and a reproduction of the Yongle Encyclopedia. The brick and wood carving halls and medicine-culture display show traditional craft and old objects. These halls may have different opening hours, so read the notices at their doors first.

If you want to see surname ancestral halls, look for your own surname according to what is open that day. Not every surname courtyard is necessarily open, and you do not need to cross the compound repeatedly to collect them all.

Who this suits

The site suits visitors interested in traditional architecture, surname culture, wood and brick carving, and Hakka folk culture. It also works for a gentle weekend visit with older adults. The compound is large and almost all movement is on foot, so wear flat, non-slip shoes.

Build your day

An approximately 2-hour quick route

Start from the central courtyard and see Blessing Pavilion and the Hundred Blessings display first. Continue to the brick and wood carving hall, then go to the Yu Family Courtyard to see its old stage before leaving through the exit. If one place is queuing or closed, move to an adjacent public courtyard.

The quick route is built around the main halls and courtyards. It does not include a night performance and does not add sights outside the compound.

An approximately 4-hour complete route

Start at Zhang Family Courtyard and the wedding building, then continue through Blessing Pavilion, the brick and wood carving hall, and the medicine-culture display. Finish by looking for open surname ancestral halls and climbing a viewpoint for an overview. Adjust the order according to the entrance direction and which halls are open that day.

The compound has many courtyards, steps, and stone surfaces. With older adults, plan rest stops and do not walk continuously in an attempt to see all 103 buildings.

Night session and accommodation

After seeing the historic buildings in the daytime, separately confirm whether there is a night ticket or live show that evening. The lantern corridor and accommodation are not automatically included in the basic day ticket. Hotel check-in, parking, and next-day admission must each be confirmed separately.

If no show is scheduled, walk within the night session's open area and do not wait for a fixed program that does not exist. If you continue in the compound or elsewhere in Wuping the next day, arrange transport again.

Get there

Driving

Navigate to Wuping Baijia Courtyard. The roads from Wuping county town or Zhongshan Town are in better condition. The site has its own car park, but whether it charges and whether spaces are available follows the on-site signs. Hotel parking and ordinary visitor parking are two separate arrangements and cannot be assumed to be interchangeable.

Do not drive through the compound. Park, then walk into the visitor centre. With large luggage, first confirm the accommodation entrance and how luggage will be moved.

High-speed rail and county transport

Take high-speed rail to Wuping Station, then a taxi of about 30-40 minutes to the site. Shared e-bikes can be used in the county town, but for the site and surrounding hills, driving or a car arranged in advance is better.

The return vehicle must also be confirmed in advance. After the night session, cars are harder to find, so do not arrange only the outward trip.

Know before you go

Day, night, and show boundaries

Day tickets, night tickets, live shows, and accommodation benefits are different products. Whether a day ticket continues into the night session, whether a show needs a separate ticket, and whether a hotel stay includes entry benefits must be confirmed before purchase.

The wedding live show is not a fixed daily performance. Check the schedule before travelling or at the visitor centre. When there is no show, you can still see the buildings, halls, and open night spaces.

Heritage lodging and mobility

Some old houses converted into lodging have no lift, with irregular stairs and thresholds. Visitors with large luggage, limited mobility, or accessibility needs should confirm the room's position, floor, and help with luggage in advance.

Lighting inside the compound is not completely even at night. Wear non-slip shoes on the lantern corridor and steps, do not climb fences, and do not enter construction or unopened courtyards.

Exhibitions, food, and return

Exhibition halls, stages, viewpoints, and commercial spaces may each adjust their hours. When eating, look at the menu and price first, and do not treat one restaurant or fixed dish as a guarantee.

The compound's size and visit time can exceed expectations. Confirm the vehicle back to the railway station or county town before dark, and do not leave it until after a night show.
