Entrance, price and hours

Mingtang and Tiantang Scenic Area is at the intersection of Zhongzhou Middle Road and Dingding North Road, the Old Town District of Luoyang. Enter through the South Gate. The reference adult ticket price is CNY 88–90 and the reference half-price ticket is CNY 45. Advance booking is usually not required; tickets can be bought through the official mini program or on site. Opening hours are usually 09:00–22:30, with entry ending at 22:00. Confirm annual passes and combination tickets under the current ticketing rules.

How much time to allow

Allow about 1 hour for the Mingtang ruins, key floors and indoor displays; allow about 2–2.5 hours if adding Tiantang’s ninth-floor viewing platform, murals and performances. Yingtianmen, Mingtang and Tiantang, and Jiuzhou Pool are next to one another, but each scenic area sells tickets and verifies entry separately. A combination ticket is only an optional way to group them.

Choose your visit

Mingtang’s second floor and first-floor ruins

The second-floor Wanxiang Divine Palace at Mingtang presents a reconstructed palace space and imperial route. On the first floor, the ruins display introduces the central column and foundations of the Tang-dynasty palace. Mingtang also has several galleries and suits visitors interested in the politics, rituals and architectural reconstruction of the Wu Zhou period.

Tiantang’s ninth-floor viewing platform

Tiantang’s ninth floor is the high viewpoint of the scenic area, overlooking Luoyang’s Old Town, newer districts and Mingtang’s roof. The ninth-floor space is limited and may be crowded on public holidays. Visitors who want city and historic-building night views should put the climb in the first half of the route or adjust it according to the queue on site.

Performances and who this suits

The scenic area may stage Tang-style performances such as “Music and Dance of the Divine Palace,” “All Nations Paying Court” and “Mingtang Shao Music.” Check the program for the day of entry for the exact sessions. Some large performances and projects such as “Tang Palace Music Banquet” require separate tickets. Visitors interested in Tang-style photography, architectural history or night views can choose the exhibitions, summit or performances separately.

Build your day

1 hour: Mingtang and Tiantang highlights

Enter through the South Gate and go first to Mingtang’s second floor to see the Wanxiang Divine Palace. Return to the first floor for the ruins and eight galleries, then walk to Tiantang and take the elevator to the ninth-floor viewing platform. After the view, leave from Tiantang’s first floor and follow the on-site route out.

2–2.5 hours: Displays and performances

After entering through the South Gate, visit Mingtang’s second floor first, then see the central-column ruins and eight galleries on the first floor. Continue to Tiantang’s second floor for the “All Nations Paying Court” mural. Take the elevator to the ninth floor of Tiantang and walk down floor by floor, checking the central-column ruins on the first floor. If you plan to see a performance, fit it into the route according to the day’s program.

Visiting the three parks together

Mingtang and Tiantang, Yingtianmen and Jiuzhou Pool are within walking distance of one another. The reference price for a three-park combination ticket is about CNY 120, usually allowing one entry to each park within 3 days. Confirm the exact scope and validity under the current ticketing rules. The combination ticket does not automatically include separately ticketed performances, and after leaving for the next park you still need to follow that park’s entrance and ticket arrangements.

Get there

Metro and bus

Take Metro Line 1 to Yingtianmen Station. Exit from Exit A2 or C2, walk to the scenic area’s North Square and then follow the on-site directions to the South Gate. Bus routes 81, 52, 56 and 69, among others, stop at “Dingding Road–Zhongzhou Middle Road Intersection.” Include Old Town traffic congestion in the itinerary for evening travel.

Connecting with Yingtianmen

After leaving Yingtianmen through its North Gate, walk about 5–10 minutes to Mingtang and Tiantang. This pairing works well when Yingtianmen comes first. The two attractions verify entry documents separately, and a single-park ticket for one cannot replace the ticket for the other.

Know before you go

Performances and the summit

Check the day’s program after entering before deciding whether to buy a separately ticketed performance. Tiantang’s ninth floor is small. When visitor numbers concentrate on public holidays, follow the queue and safety instructions while going up and down, and do not block the viewing passage when taking photographs.

Food and evening visits

Xigong Snack Street is about 1 kilometer away and Shizi Street Night Market about 1.5 kilometers away, both suitable for a meal after leaving. If combining Mingtang and Tiantang with an Old Town evening visit, arrange the order around each scenic area’s last-entry time and confirm the three areas’ evening hours separately.
