Entrance, reservation and opening hours

Luoyang Museum is at No. 6 Nietai Road, Luolong District, Luoyang. Visitors usually enter through the South Gate. Admission is free, but a real-name reservation through the official “Luoyang Museum” mini program is required. Reservations usually open 3 days in advance, with tickets released at around 07:00 each day. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with admission ending at 16:00. It is closed on Mondays, and arrangements may change on public holidays.

How much time to allow

Allow about 1–1.5 hours for the Treasure Gallery and the Palace Cultural Relics Gallery; allow about 2–3 hours for a slower visit in gallery order. The collection focuses on Xia, Shang and Zhou bronzes, Han and Tang sancai, Buddhist artifacts and Heluo civilization, making the museum a good fit for a city-center museum itinerary.

Signature artifacts and the Heluo civilization exhibition

In the Treasure Gallery, look for the Cao Wei white-jade cup and the Tang sancai black-glazed horse. The Palace Cultural Relics Gallery displays a Qing-dynasty golden nanmu pagoda. On the first floor, the painted pottery hand-holding figurine in the Heluo Civilization exhibition is worth a closer look. An Eastern Han stone bixie, a Western Zhou square ding with an animal-mask design and a Northern Wei clay Buddha face are also within the main viewing areas.

Where the nipple-pattern bronze jue belongs

The nipple-pattern bronze jue currently displayed at Luoyang Museum is a replica; the original has been transferred to Erlitou Xia Capital Site Museum. At Luoyang Museum, treat it as a reminder that displays can change between museums, and do not describe the original at Erlitou as part of Luoyang Museum’s collection.

Who this suits

Visitors interested in historic artifacts, museums or Luoyang’s urban history can plan a deeper route of about 2 hours. Visitors who enjoy architecture or hanfu photography can also include the outside of the building and the sunset period, while following the gallery photography rules indoors.

Build your day

1–1.5 hours: Key galleries

Enter through the South Gate and go directly to the second floor. Start with the Cao Wei white-jade cup and Tang sancai black-glazed horse in the Treasure Gallery, then see the golden nanmu pagoda in the Palace Cultural Relics Gallery. Return to the first floor for a quick look at the painted pottery hand-holding figurine in the Heluo Civilization exhibition, then leave through the exit.

2–3 hours: Core gallery route

After entering through the South Gate, go to the second floor and visit the Treasure Gallery and Palace Cultural Relics Gallery in that order, then return to the first floor for the Heluo Civilization exhibition. Finish at the Stone Sculpture Gallery to see the Eastern Han stone bixie. This order covers the main galleries and reduces time spent searching between floors.

Explanations and time inside

After your reservation is successful, ask at the entrance about the official audio guide or public guided service. Even with a successful reservation, queues may form at the entrance on public holidays, so entry depends on both the reserved time slot and on-site crowd control.

Get there

Metro and walking

Take Metro Line 2 to Wenboyuan Station. Exit from Exit A and walk about 800 meters to the museum’s South Gate. Bus routes 37, 49, 68 and 77, among others, stop at “Niewan South” or “Luoyang Museum.” For travel within the city, the metro is usually the more efficient option.

Entrance navigation

Set “Luoyang Museum South Gate” or the museum address as the destination. After entering, follow the visitor flow from the South Gate for verification. Prepare the reservation QR code, identification and entry time in advance to avoid having to complete the process again at the entrance.

Know before you go

Reservations and photography

Admission to Luoyang Museum is free, but a real-name reservation is still required for entry. Go at the reserved time after the reservation is confirmed. Flash photography and tripods are prohibited inside, and visitors should keep the passage clear when photographing popular display cases.

Food nearby

Lao Luoyang Beef Soup is about 500 meters from the museum and is suitable for a simple meal before or after the visit. A walk of about 10 minutes also takes you to Dugu Yuan Spicy Chicken Rice Noodles. If visiting another museum on the same day, plan the transfer around its reservation slot; each museum handles entry reservations and verification separately.
