Entrance and visiting area
Yingtianmen Gate is at No. 23 Dingding South Road, the Old Town District of Luoyang. Enter through the South Gate and exit on the north side; the North Gate is for leaving the park only. The present structure was rebuilt on the basis of archaeological-site protection. The main visiting areas are the gate-ruins displays on the first floor and basement level, the second-floor exhibitions and the Ziwei Observatory on the sixth floor.
Tickets and timing
The reference adult ticket price is CNY 60 and the reference half-price ticket is CNY 30. Advance booking is usually not required; tickets can be bought through the official mini program or on site. Opening hours are usually 09:00–22:30, with entry ending at 22:00. The sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory may require a reservation for a same-day time slot through the official mini program. Confirm crowd controls and temporary ticketing arrangements in the notice for your travel date.
How much time to allow
Allow about 1 hour for the first-floor ruins, second-floor platform and sixth-floor viewpoint; allow about 2–2.5 hours if adding the underground “One Gate, Three Passageways,” the Western Ruins Hall, the Gate Museum and the exhibitions. After exiting through the North Gate, the Mingtang and Tiantang Scenic Area is about a 5–10-minute walk away. The two attractions require separate tickets or entry verification.

The underground “One Gate, Three Passageways” ruins
The basement-level “One Gate, Three Passageways” display shows the foundations and column-base stones of the Sui and Tang city gate, along with the central passage for the emperor and the two side passages for ministers. This is the most concentrated historical section at Yingtianmen. A glass walkway allows views of the ruins from the basement, while the ground-level square is suitable for photographing the rebuilt gate tower.
The sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory and second-floor platform
The sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory overlooks Luoyang’s Old Town and newer districts. The open-air second-floor platform is suitable for views of Mingtang, Tiantang and the surrounding cityscape. Sunset, blue hour and night lighting create different photographic effects, but summit reservations and access depend on the mini program display for that day.
Night views and who this suits
The North Square may host a 3D light show at night. Its content and timing change with weekends, public holidays and temporary events. Visitors interested in Sui and Tang architecture, archaeological ruins, city photography or Tang-style activities can combine the daytime ruins and evening views in one visit.

1 hour: Viewpoint highlights
Enter through the South Gate, see the murals in the first-floor entrance hall and the ruins area, then take the elevator to the open-air second-floor platform and continue to the sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory. Return to the second floor and leave through the North Gate. Mingtang and Tiantang is about a 5–10-minute walk away.
2–2.5 hours: Ruins and exhibitions
After entering through the South Gate, first see the “Yingtian Changge” murals and the Western Ruins Hall, then go down to the basement for the “One Gate, Three Passageways” ruins and continue to the Eastern Ruins Hall. Go up to the second floor for the Gate Museum, art gallery and open-air platform, then continue to the sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory. Return to the second floor for the “Grand Court Ceremony of the Divine Capital” exhibition before leaving through the North Gate.
Planning around the light show
If the North Square light show is scheduled that day, it may commonly take place around 20:30 on Saturday or Sunday evening, but the timing changes on public holidays and event days. Stay in the North Square to watch it and leave according to the crowd flow. Do not treat the light-show time as a fixed program throughout the year.
Get there
Metro and self-driving
Take Metro Line 1 to Yingtianmen Station. Exit from Exit A2 or C2 to reach the North Square, then walk to the scenic area’s South Gate. If driving, navigate to “Sui and Tang Luoyang City Yingtianmen Ruins Museum Parking Lot 1.” Parking is tight on public holidays, so the metro is more suitable for evening visits.
Connecting the entrances and exits
The North Square is where the metro arrives and where the full view of Yingtianmen is photographed, but visitors must enter the museum through the South Gate. After the visit, exit through the North Gate and follow the pedestrian route to Mingtang and Tiantang. If continuing to Jiuzhou Pool, confirm its entrance and opening arrangements separately for that day.

Summit reservations and temporary controls
Entry to Yingtianmen usually does not require a reservation, but the sixth-floor Ziwei Observatory may require a same-day time-slot reservation and can fill up early on public holidays. The scenic area has previously introduced crowd controls, ticket-sales suspensions or exit-only arrangements on specific dates. Such notices apply only to the dates listed; check the information for the day of your visit.
Crowds and spending
The North Square can be busy during the night-view period, so watch your belongings while photographing and leaving. There are many dining options around the scenic area; you can also go to Xigong Snack Street for guotie and Luoyang soup. Directly refuse guides or escort services that solicit customers outside the scenic area.
