Come for the early fish market and seafood
Bohe Fishing Port is best visited in the early morning after the boats return, when visitors can see the market and port activity. It is not mainly a beach leisure destination. The market becomes active from around 03:00, with 04:00-07:00 the most useful window for visitors and choice. After 09:00, fresh catch and open stalls gradually decrease.
The port and seafood market are free to enter and do not require a reservation. A half-day is enough for the market, a purchase and a meal. Visitors should expect wet ground, dense activity and weather-dependent catches rather than a tidy, all-day shopping street.
Keep seafood purchases and cooking charges separate
Seafood prices change with the day's catch, season and weather. The listed prices are only a budget reference, not fixed rates. If you plan to have a nearby restaurant cook what you buy, ask about the cooking fee, preparation method, minimum charge and opening time before purchasing. Processing is around CNY 15-25 per jin, depending on the dish.
Visitors who do not want to buy seafood can simply walk through the morning market, watch the port and leave. Do not buy unfamiliar seafood because of a vendor's sales pitch, and do not treat a seafood purchase as compulsory.

Half a day: market, shopping and lunch
Arrive at the port and market between 04:00 and 07:00. Walk through several stalls first, compare the catch and prices, then decide whether to buy. After shopping, have lunch at a cooking restaurant whose charges you have already confirmed, then leave the port or continue to a separate coastal destination.
This route requires an early start and some tolerance for wet ground, fish smells and temporary congestion. If someone in your group only wants photographs and boats, agree on a meeting point rather than making everyone wait in the narrow trading area.
One night or two days: separate the market from the coast
If you want both the market and a sunset, stay nearby the night before, visit the market early, rest after lunch and go to a coastal viewpoint later. This avoids a long drive after too little sleep and prevents the early closing of the market from crowding the rest of the day.
Fangji Island transport and the fish market are two different plans. If you are taking a boat to the island from the port the same day, put ticket collection, security checks and boarding first. Do not leave the morning market and seafood lunch until the last minute before departure.

Walk through the market before buying
On arrival, take one full look around and compare stalls, the condition of the catch and the available cooking options before buying. Confirm the type, weight and processing fee before paying. If the price, product or hygiene conditions are not clear, leaving or taking photographs only is a better choice than buying in a hurry.
After buying, confirm the cooking restaurant's address, handover process and completion time. Do not leave seafood in the heat for a long period, and do not hand over a large purchase before agreeing on the processing fee.
Photograph the port without disrupting work
When photographing boats and the morning trade, stand clear of loading areas and mooring edges. Do not cross barriers or approach wet, slippery edges. In rain, typhoons or strong wind, boats may not leave or return as expected; the catch you hoped to see may not arrive, and some areas may not be safe for a long visit.
If you want to see the Bohe Bridge or a nearby waterfront at sunset, plan it separately and check parking and walking conditions. Do not force an early market, lunch and evening sightseeing into one continuous day without a break.

Driving or a pre-arranged ride works best for the early market
Drivers can navigate to Bohe Port or Bohe Comprehensive Market. The port area can become congested at the morning peak. Park about 200 metres away where permitted and walk in, keeping all access roads clear for port work and traffic.
A taxi from Maoming Railway Station takes about one hour, and public transport options are limited in the early morning. Non-drivers should arrange both the outbound and return rides before leaving; do not wait until the market is closing to look for a long-distance ride.
Walk light and wear shoes with grip
The market floor may have water, ice and fish waste. Shoes with good grip are safer than loose sandals or heels. If you are buying seafood, bring a strong bag or container and keep cash, your phone and receipts protected from water.
The port's transport, trading, cooking and parking areas may not be next to one another. On arrival, identify the place you actually need before moving, rather than mixing boarding, shopping and photographs into one rushed route.

Confirm weight, price and cooking charges before paying
Prices and the day's catch are heavily affected by weather. Compare several stalls and confirm the unit of weight and total price. If you are unsure about the weight or type, ask for it to be checked again on the spot. Do not accept a vague price simply because the seafood has just come off a boat or a vendor says it is the last batch.
Ask about the processing fee before handing seafood to a restaurant; different cooking methods may cost different amounts. If you do not want to handle seafood yourself, ordering from a restaurant with clear prices is simpler than accepting extra storage and communication risks for a small saving.
The early hour, slippery ground and weather set the limit
The 04:00-07:00 window suits early risers. Children, visitors with limited mobility and anyone uncomfortable in a wet, noisy market can arrive later for a port view or choose another coastal plan. In poor fishing weather, do not promise that a particular type of seafood will be available.
During strong rain, typhoons or busy port operations, safety comes before photographs and shopping. If you are driving onwards after the market, rest and secure the food first; do not start a long drive while tired or with perishable seafood loose in the car.
