Fangji Island is reached by boat from the Bohe-area port; it is not a beach that you can drive to. The crossing usually takes about 30-40 minutes, while departure and return schedules change with the season and weather. The usual boarding window is around 10:00-17:00, but confirm the day's boat schedule and ticket arrangements before setting out.
A same-day return usually takes 6-8 hours. Travellers who want to see sunrise, go diving or avoid being rushed by the last boat can stay overnight and plan two days. Island transport, food and accommodation are more limited than on the mainland, so include the tickets, final return time and supplies in the plan rather than counting only beach time.
The admission package covers the island crossing; water activities are separate
Online products for admission plus a return boat are around CNY 160-168, while on-site purchase is around CNY 180. The contents can vary by date, so check whether the product includes the return boat and island admission. Jet skis, banana boats, snorkelling, scuba diving and other water activities should be treated as separate items or packages rather than assumed to be included in the island ticket.
Holiday periods may have visitor limits, with a recorded peak capacity of about 3,000 people. For a same-day visit, book ahead and allow time for ticket collection, security checks and boarding at the port. Diving and overnight plans also require confirmation that the activity and accommodation are operating on your date.

One day: bays, rocks and the lighthouse
After arriving by boat, start at the pier viewpoint and Blue Bay, then stop near Conch Square for food or a water activity before walking towards Jitou Reef and the lighthouse area for the sea view. This keeps the return boat as the final fixed point and suits travellers who want a relaxed visit with short walks and time by the water.
The island sightseeing vehicle follows fixed stops and a fixed boarding order, so it gives you less freedom to stop when you want. If you prefer to pause for photographs or adjust the route, consider renting a small electric vehicle if one is available that day, after checking its charging arrangements, riding area and return point.
Two days or diving: leave room for weather and energy
On a two-day plan, use the first afternoon for the island loop, Wild Pineapple Park, Lovers' Rock and a sunset viewpoint. On the second day, add coral-reef snorkelling or diving, the Tianhou Temple and the return boat. Sunrise is worth considering at the rocks and coastline, but do not pack sunrise, diving and an afternoon last boat into a tight schedule.
Divers should put the instructor arrangement, personal condition, sea conditions and boat schedule first. If wind, rain or operations make entering the water unsuitable, keep a land-based sightseeing route and an early-return option available rather than making the whole island trip depend on a water activity.
Build your day
Confirm the return boat and activity locations first
After reaching the island, confirm the return-boat meeting time and location before choosing to walk, use the sightseeing vehicle or rent a vehicle. Putting Blue Bay, Conch Square, the farther rocks and the lighthouse on one continuous route reduces repeated walking in the heat.
Conch Square works as a central place for water, food and water activities. If you have booked diving or another activity, work backwards from its meeting time and leave room for walking and photographs. Do not miss the activity check-in or return boat while trying to visit every photo point.
Finish at a sunset viewpoint, not by forcing a sunrise schedule into the evening
On a one-day visit, complete Blue Bay, the rocks and the main viewpoints before the afternoon, then wait for sunset near the lighthouse or Wild Pineapple Park. After sunset, return directly according to the boat schedule. Avoid taking an unfamiliar path or looking for a remote viewpoint only after the light has faded.
For an overnight stay, treat sunrise and diving on the second day as separate decisions. First check the weather and decide whether to get up early, then join the water activity only if you have enough rest and time before the boat. This reduces the safety and return-trip risks caused by early waking, seasickness or strong sun.
If boat and return times allow, Bohe Fishing Port can be a separate early-market or seafood stop before boarding or after returning from the island; it is not a place that must be squeezed into the island-transfer process. When the departure window is tight, protect ticket collection, boarding, and the return boat rather than trying to fit in the fishing port.
Get there
Drive or take a train connection to the port area
Drivers can navigate to the Fangji Island ticket office or the port parking area. Parking is around CNY 10-20 per day. After parking, you still need time for ticket collection and boarding, and the car cannot travel with you to the island, so leave spare clothes and items you do not want to carry in the car for the return journey.
A taxi or private car from Maoming Railway Station to the Bohe-area port takes about one hour. K9 and D25 buses are also listed as city options. Non-drivers should plan the return from the port to the city or railway station before boarding instead of calculating only the outbound trip.
Bohe Port is both a transport point and a separate fishing-port visit
For a Fangji Island trip, treat Bohe Port as the place for the boat and boarding process. Do not start exploring the fish market after arriving if it could make you late for the boat. If you want to visit the morning market or eat seafood, schedule that as a separate part of the trip.
The ticket office, port and actual boarding point may not be in exactly the same place. Agree on a meeting point with your group and keep the booking information available, especially during holidays when crowds and queues can slow communication and movement.
Know before you go
Sea conditions, supplies and seasickness shape the visit
Strong wind, thunderstorms or other poor conditions can affect sailing. Travellers who get seasick should prepare their usual remedy in advance and choose a steadier boat when possible. Until sailing is confirmed, do not build the night's accommodation, the next transport connection or an expensive activity around a schedule with no flexibility.
Food and drinking water on the island are usually more expensive and choices are limited. Bring water, simple food, sun protection and insect repellent. Sun exposure and slippery rocks are common, so shoes with good grip and staying away from unprotected edges matter more than chasing a photograph.
Check the actual room type and deposit process
Staying on the island can reduce pressure from the boat schedule, but room condition, damp smells, insects and facilities may vary by room type. Check the current room description before booking rather than assuming that island accommodation has the standard of a full-service resort hotel.
If the booking involves a deposit or a refund after check-out, confirm the service desk location and required documents before leaving the island. On the return day, allow time for check-out, the deposit refund, boarding and possible weather changes.
