Plan at a glance

A ticketed forest, waterfall and cave route, not a cave-only stop

Gaozhou Immortal Cave Scenic Area lies in Xianrendong Village, Shenzhen Town, Gaozhou, on the southern foot of Datianding Peak. Allow 3-4 hours for its waterfalls, walkways and cave visit. It opens 08:30-17:00, with last entry at 16:30; arrive around opening time to reduce pressure on parking and popular add-on activities.

The adult base ticket is CNY 50, with corresponding concessions for children and older visitors. A compulsory reservation is usually not required, and you can scan to enter on arrival. The site also has an elevator, glass bridge, slide, rafting and photo activities. Decide on the core route first, then buy the ticket or package that fits it.

Budget for the core route separately from add-on activities

A package including admission, the Qingyun Upward Elevator, Sky Mirror and Angel Wings is about CNY 88 per person; a glass-bridge and slide package is about CNY 70 per person. Individual reference prices are CNY 35 for the 5D glass bridge, CNY 35 for the Bamboo Sea Slide, CNY 25 for the Qingyun Upward Elevator and CNY 88 for aerial rafting. Prices and operation should follow the day's products.

If waterfalls, the creek valley and Panxian Cave are your priorities, the base ticket and walking route already cover the main visit. Sky Mirror and Angel Wings are photo-focused extras, so there is no need to shorten the waterfall visit or safe descent just to buy every item. Glass-bridge, rafting and other activities are not guaranteed to operate every day.

Choose your visit

2-3 hours: a lighter route through the waterfalls and Panxian Cave

With limited time, older relatives or children, or no interest in high-altitude activities, enter from the visitor centre, pass Immortal Square and the waterfall group, stop at Tianhe Waterfall and Rainbow Waterfall, then continue to Panxian Cave and return by the same route. Paths close to water are damp. The route is not long, but non-slip shoes and time for photos and slopes still matter.

This combines water, forest shade and the cave without being led by extra charges. If water flow, weather or the group's energy does not suit a further ascent, turn back from a safe waterfall viewpoint; there is no need to force every high point into the visit.

3-4 hours: take the elevator up, then use the slide or walk down

For a fuller route, start at the visitor centre, visit the waterfall group, take the Qingyun Upward Elevator, continue to Immortal Valley Square and Panxian Cave, then decide whether to use the glass bridge and descend by the Bamboo Sea Slide or on foot. Choosing the ascent and descent method first reduces time spent searching for activities at junctions.

For families, focus on Immortal Square, the shallow-water area, age-appropriate activities and the slide. Older visitors and young children should slow down on rope bridges and wet steps. Aerial rafting is relatively expensive and has rider requirements, so do not queue first and only then find that it does not suit someone in the group.

Build your day

Park at the visitor centre, then begin through the waterfall area

Drive directly to the visitor-centre car park, with a reference charge of CNY 8 per day. Do not park at the more distant 2.1 or 2.2 car parks, as you will then need a sightseeing-vehicle transfer and can lose time both on arrival and return.

After entry, start along the waterfall and creek-valley direction instead of going straight to popular add-on activities at opening time. Tianhe Waterfall, Rainbow Waterfall and Panxian Cave form the core of the day. If you want the elevator or glass bridge, connect them after completing this walking section for a smoother route.

At junctions, follow yellow signs before adding an activity

Some direction arrows are not very clear. Follow the yellow signs and on-site staff guidance. Mobile signal is weak on some sections, so groups should agree on a meeting point before every split instead of each person taking an unfamiliar path to the next activity.

Before buying the slide, glass bridge or another activity, confirm its entrance, end point and distance back to the main route. The Bamboo Sea Slide can reduce downhill walking, but you still need to control speed under its rules. If an activity is closed, its queue is too long or someone feels unwell, descend on the main path rather than changing to an unfamiliar side route.

Get there

There is still a long, winding rural approach after leaving the expressway

Drive via the Caojiang exit or Qianpai toll station of the Baomao Expressway. After leaving the expressway, there is about 1.5 hours of rural road, including a final 20 km of winding, steep mountain road with limited passing space. Slow down and use the horn on bends, avoid night driving, and take extra care with low-clearance vehicles on steep sections and variable road surfaces.

The overall trip from the Pearl River Delta is about 2.5-3 hours, but do not estimate it from expressway time alone. Aim to reach the visitor centre before 09:00 so parking, entry, the waterfall route and an afternoon descent all retain some margin.

Public transport reaches Gaozhou; transport into Shenzhen must be arranged ahead

From Maoming Station, take a coach to Gaozhou East Bus Station, then use a hired or shared car to Shenzhen Town, at a reference cost of CNY 120 per car. Local public transport is limited, so visitors without a car should agree on both directions before leaving rather than searching for a long-distance return after the site closes.

On the return, you still need to walk back to the visitor-centre parking or pickup point, even after using the slide or glass bridge. Plan to leave before 17:00 and allow time for the mountain road, transfer and an evening meal.

Know before you go

An early start avoids crowds; wet steps and weak signal call for a steady pace

Visitor numbers and parking pressure usually rise after 10:00 at weekends and on public holidays, so entering after the 08:30 opening is more relaxed for the waterfalls. Waterfall edges, walkways and stone steps are slippery: wear non-slip shoes and walk at a measured pace. Older visitors and children should be accompanied on rope bridges or sections without obvious handrails.

Signal can be weak on some mountain roads and inside the site. Offline maps, a fully charged phone and a clear meeting point are useful. Do not cross barriers or cut along the water because signs are unclear; if you become uncertain of the route or rain begins, return to the nearest main path.

Travel light with water; neither food nor extra activities need to be forced

There are small shops inside, but water and snacks can cost more, so bring drinking water and light food. Eating at a farm restaurant at the foot of the mountain is often less rushed after the visit. Shenzhen Old Street can be an optional nearby stop, and Baiqiao Service Area can also be used for a break or meal on the return, but neither should take time away from a safe descent.

Waterfall flow, the glass bridge, rafting, the slide and other extras can all be affected by weather and operating arrangements. Make the base waterfall-and-cave route the core of the day. Join add-ons when they are available, but do not delay the return or rush on wet paths when they are not.
