Gaozhou Museum is on Wenming Road at the foot of Guanshan; search for “Gaozhou Museum”. Allow 1-1.5 hours for permanent displays such as Gaoliang Antiquities, which set local artefacts in a wider historical context; a Warring States bronze sword, a Han bronze drum and Li-people pottery are among the objects worth seeking out.
The museum is free. Individual visitors can usually scan a code and enter, while group visits must contact the museum at least one day ahead on 0668-6611446. On arrival, follow that day’s security, entry and gallery instructions.

The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:45; it is closed on Monday. If you want time for the full displays, arrive before 16:00 rather than leaving entry until the final minutes.
After the museum, you can continue to the Guanshan area or the Revolutionary History Museum, but both are separate extensions. Complete the exhibition visit first, then decide whether your energy and the weather suit a further uphill walk, rather than reducing the museum to a quick circuit.

About one hour: permanent displays and the second-floor balcony
If time is limited, pause in the first-floor lobby, see the Gaoliang Antiquities permanent exhibition, continue to the folk-related displays upstairs, then use the second-floor balcony for views of Guanshan and the surrounding streets. It is a compact route for a morning or early-afternoon arrival.
Four free stamps are available at the first-floor service desk if you bring paper. They can be a small extra during the visit, but should not take time away from the main galleries; photography rules can vary between exhibits and rooms, so read signs before taking pictures.
Half a day: combine with Guanshan heritage stops
For more local history, visit the museum first and then walk to the nearby Gaozhou Revolutionary History Museum, before making a short stop around Guanshan Temple if access allows. The Revolutionary History Museum can be visited in about 20 minutes, while Gaozhou Museum deserves enough time for its main displays.
If you also want the arcade street and Baoguang Pagoda in the same day, put the museum in the morning or early afternoon, leave the old street for later, and reach the riverside pagoda near sunset. That sequence avoids returning against the museum’s closing time and reduces uphill walking in the hottest part of the day.

See the permanent displays before extending the route
Follow the galleries in order: start with the historical context of the Gaoliang area, move through the artefacts and folk-related displays, then finish with the balcony. Building the background before focusing on individual objects makes a short visit easier to follow; if the layout is unfamiliar, begin with the orientation panels or ask at the service desk.
Decide whether to continue to the Revolutionary History Museum or Guanshan Temple only after leaving the museum. There is no need to shorten the galleries to cover every nearby stop; the main temple at Guanshan Temple is closed because of landslide risk, so remain only in areas that are open and follow the on-site guidance.
Put the other city stops after the museum closes for you
After the displays, have a meal on the Zhongshan Road arcade street, explore the old lanes, then go to Baoguang Pagoda towards evening. The museum has a clear time limit, while the old streets and riverside work better later; this also avoids repeated trips between Guanshan and other parts of town.
If the museum is your only stop, return to Panzhou Square or the nearby parking area when you leave. There is still a walk between the museum and parking, so allow time for it, especially at weekends or when travelling with children.
Gaozhou Museum works well with Gaozhou Baoguang Pagoda and Gaozhou Xian Tai Temple as a city heritage walk: see the exhibitions first, then continue to the riverside or temple according to your energy. Each has its own opening rhythm and focus, so do not apply the museum's closure times to the pagoda or temple.

Parking is limited; use the nearby lots first
Parking around the museum is limited. Drivers can use Panzhou Square parking or legal municipal street spaces, then walk about 10-15 minutes to the museum; do not wait at the entrance for a space or stop in a way that affects nearby traffic.
On weekends and public holidays, arrive in the morning or early afternoon for both a better chance of parking and enough time inside. Take rain gear, water and other essentials with you before entering, rather than walking back after security or ticket checks.
Buses stop near Panzhou Park or the museum
Local buses stop at Panzhou Park or the Museum stop, both a few minutes’ walk away. From Maoming Station, a taxi to central Gaozhou takes about 40 minutes; once in town, use a short taxi ride or walk according to the day’s route.
Visitors without a car who intend to add the Revolutionary History Museum, Guanshan Temple or Baoguang Pagoda should allow separately for walking and taxi time. The Guanshan area has some slope, so where group fitness levels vary, make the museum the priority and add other stops only if comfortable.
Know before you go
Entry timing, quiet galleries and photography restrictions
The museum is closed all day on Monday, and last entry is 16:45 from Tuesday to Sunday; free entry without a reservation does not guarantee immediate access at every moment. If visitor numbers are high, queue or return shortly afterwards as directed rather than putting the entire visit immediately before closing.
Keep quiet in the galleries, do not touch objects or cross barriers. Some rooms or exhibits may prohibit photography, so check the signs first; on the second-floor balcony, take care not to obstruct other visitors while photographing the street view.
Keep closed areas and energy limits in mind around Guanshan
The Revolutionary History Museum and Guanshan Temple are useful nearby extensions, but they do not replace the main museum visit. The main temple at Guanshan Temple is closed because of landslide risk, so stay within open areas and do not bypass barriers or cut across slopes.
If you continue from the museum towards Guanshan or the old streets in summer, bring water, sun protection and mosquito repellent. In hot, wet weather or if your group does not want another uphill section, finish at the museum and head into town to rest.
