Genzi Lychee Cultural Tourism Area brings together Baiqiao Village, Baiqiao Service Area, the China Lychee Museum, Gongyuan and Hongli Pavilion. Start your navigation with “China Lychee Museum” or “Baiqiao Service Area”. The core stops are mostly free and need no reservation, but they are in different locations, so connect them according to the sights you want and how you are travelling.
Half a day is enough for the service area and museum; add Gongyuan, Hongli Pavilion and a village meal for a full day. Give yourself more time if you want fruit picking or nearby mountain country; the China Lychee Museum is generally open 09:00-17:00 and closed Monday, while Baiqiao Service Area is open all day, so the service-area hours do not replace the museum’s entry hours.
Picking is strongly seasonal and orchard-dependent
Picking, fruit ripeness and orchard access depend on the season, weather and each orchard’s arrangements, with heavier traffic and visitor numbers during the May-July lychee season. Contact the orchard you want to visit before leaving to confirm that it is open, the picking area, ripe varieties, price by weight and parking.
Early varieties such as Baitangying are a reference CNY 15-25 per jin, while later varieties such as Guiwei and Nuomici are a reference CNY 20-30 per jin. These are budget guides, not fixed quotes; outside the picking season, you can still visit the old groves, architecture and museum, but should not assume that picking will be available.

2-3 hours: service area and lychee museum
If time is short, start at Baiqiao Service Area to see the lychee-themed architecture, rest or pick up supplies, then continue to the China Lychee Museum for the displays and exterior skywalk. It is an easy route for drivers passing through or visitors who do not plan to enter an orchard; allow enough time for security, entry and the exhibition.
The museum presents many lychee varieties, and the skywalk looks over the surrounding orchards. Lychee ice cream, coffee and small souvenirs at the service area are optional; a themed motorway service area does not need to become a long shopping stop.
A full day: old lychee grove, Hongli Pavilion and village food
For a fuller view of lychee country, visit Baiqiao Service Area and the museum in the morning, eat in Genzi Town or nearby at midday, then go to Gongyuan and Hongli Pavilion in the afternoon. Gongyuan has several lychee trees more than 500 years old; follow open paths through the grove, and use Hongli Pavilion later in the afternoon for a wider view across the trees.
If picking is the focus of the day, lock in the orchard reservation and arrival time first, then use the service area, museum or Gongyuan before or after it. Orchards may be private working spaces, so do not enter, pick fruit or treat orchard lanes as public walking paths without confirmation.
Outside lychee-picking season, or when you do not plan to enter an orchard, decide first whether you want to drive mountain roads and how long to stop before putting Genzi Lychee Cultural Tourism Area and Fushan Ridge Scenic Area on the same day. Fushan Ridge is for open ridges and wind-farm views, while Genzi depends more on season and village-road access; treat them as two self-drive stops, not neighbouring walking points.

Complete the timed museum visit before villages and orchards
On arrival, visit the museum while it is open, then continue to Gongyuan or an orchard you have arranged in advance. Baiqiao Service Area can work at the beginning, for a break or before leaving, and is useful for parking, water and simple food.
Choose between Gongyuan’s old trees and Hongli Pavilion according to light, roads and your energy; there is no need to rush every photo point in strong sun. If you want both scenery and picking, protect the agreed orchard time first and add viewpoints only when the schedule allows.
Confirm the picking area, price and weighing before you start
Before reaching the orchard, reconfirm the meeting point, accessible area, varieties available for picking, pricing unit and any minimum purchase. Some orchards open only a limited section, so agreeing the rules first avoids finding a different experience on arrival; do not climb trees, break branches or cross private boundaries.
When buying fruit, confirm the price before weighing and use an orchard or market with a fair scale where possible; check the net weight and packaging. Roadside mobile stalls can vary widely in price and quality, so there is no reason to rush a purchase if the origin or weighing cannot be confirmed.

Driving to Baiqiao Service Area is the easiest option
From the Pearl River Delta, driving takes about 3-4 hours. Search for “Baiqiao Service Area”; it sits on both sides of the Baomao Expressway, has more than 500 parking spaces including charging spaces, and parking is free. During lychee-season weekends, arriving before 08:30 helps avoid the busiest arrival and parking period.
Before continuing to Gongyuan, Hongli Pavilion or a specific orchard, check each route separately. Some orchard pins are not precise, so confirm the entrance and parking with the grower in advance rather than following a generic destination into narrow village lanes.
From high-speed rail, take a bus or connect through Gaozhou
From Maoming Station, bus 411 goes directly to Baiqiao Service Area; the reference fare is CNY 8 and the service runs roughly 07:00-18:30. You can also travel to Gaozhou first and then use the Genzi Town route; if you are continuing to Gongyuan, Hongli Pavilion or a booked orchard, arrange the local connection in advance.
Visitors without a car should not force every dispersed stop into one afternoon, especially in lychee season when taxis and transfers can slow down. Choose the service area and museum as one route, or secure one orchard visit first, then add other stops only if the return transport and weather allow.
Know before you go
Sun, mosquitoes and footing matter as much as the fruit
Lychee groves and village roads can be sunny and mosquito-prone, so bring a hat, sunscreen, water, repellent and a light long-sleeved layer. Tree roots, fallen fruit and muddy ground after rain can be slippery in orchards; wear trainers or other shoes with good grip and do not rush beside branches or drainage ditches.
Lychee juice can mark clothing, so wear dark, practical clothes if you plan to pick fruit. Eat fresh lychees in moderation according to your own condition and keep hydrated; the day is more comfortable when picking, strong sun and long walks are not all concentrated in the hottest hours.
Separate free core stops from paid picking
Baiqiao Service Area, the China Lychee Museum, Gongyuan and Hongli Pavilion are generally free core stops, while orchard entry for picking, fresh-fruit purchases, farmhouse meals and some activities are separate arrangements. Confirm fees and access with an orchard before going; at the service area and museum, follow their respective opening, parking and entry rules.
The appeal of lychee country is its dispersed rural scenery and seasonal fruit, not the need to chase every popular photo point. If weather, varieties or orchard conditions do not suit the day, switch to the museum, old trees and a village meal, leaving enough time for the journey back.
