Drying yard, galleries and the riverside space
The blue-cloth display at the entrance, riverside corridor and drying yard are the easiest places to understand the museum. Five themed galleries cover origins, old collections, craft, overseas trade and innovation. The old-collection gallery includes traditional blue-printed cloth pieces.
Visitors interested in intangible heritage, craft and small cultural spaces can combine the exhibitions with a workshop. With children, watching freshly dyed cloth change from yellow-green to deep blue as it meets the air provides a clear hands-on explanation of the process.
Who it suits
For a quick cultural stop, spend about 30 minutes on the galleries, drying yard and riverside corridor. Visitors who want to make a handkerchief, canvas bag or scarf should put the workshop in the middle of the route and allow 1–2 hours for making and waiting for the dyeing process.
Build your day
About 30 minutes: a quick route
Enter through the main entrance and follow the five themed galleries through the origins, craft and circulation of blue-printed cloth. Finish at the riverside corridor, drying yard and entrance display before leaving through the main entrance.
This route fits naturally into a Haohe cultural walking line. Focus on the galleries and drying yard; treat the workshop as a separate option.
About 1–2 hours: exhibitions and a workshop
After entering, look at the cultural-products shop and workshop area first, then confirm which workshop is available that day before starting the galleries. After the carving, paste-brushing and dyeing stages, use the waiting time to revisit the old-collection gallery and riverside space.
Workshop prices and completion times depend on the day's arrangements. If you want to visit Nantong Museum on the same day, include the workshop finish time in the walk to the next stop.
Get there
Metro and walking
Take Nantong Metro Line 1 to Youyiqiao Station, Exit 4, then walk about 400 metres to the museum. It is close to Haohe, so after the visit you can walk to Nantong Museum, Clock Tower Square or the riverfront path.
Driving and parking
Navigate to No. 81 Haodong Road or the nearby area. Parking can be expensive, even for a short stay. Public transport suits a 30-minute visit; if driving, include the parking time and cost in the day's plan.
Know before you go
Free admission and workshop fees
General admission is free and no reservation is required. DIY workshops are charged separately. The museum is small, with a substantial share of its space used for shopping and workshops, so plan it as a focused heritage-experience stop rather than a large public museum.
The workshop price range is wide. Confirm the project, finished item and charge before joining; free admission and paid workshops are separate arrangements.
Walking and nearby stops
The visit is short and works well with Haohe, Nantong Museum and Clock Tower Square as a half-day cultural route. In hot or rainy weather, use the galleries as the main visit and adjust time in the riverside corridor and drying yard to the conditions.
