Location, entrances and time

Langshan Scenic Area is at No. 1 Jianxin Road, Langshan Town, Chongchuan District, Nantong. The hill is about 106.9 metres high. Reaching the top usually takes about 30 minutes; the main climb takes about 1.5 hours, while a full route covering the foothill gardens, summit sights and the incense area takes 2–3 hours and fits well into a half-day in Nantong.

The three entrances serve different purposes. The North Gate is more convenient for transport and parking, the East Gate is close to the hiking trail and cable-car station, and the South Gate is close to the incense area. Choose the entrance according to your route because the three gates lead to different parts of the visit.

Tickets, reservations and opening hours

There is no general admission ticket for the scenic area, and no reservation is required. Some sites inside the area may charge separately; the reference range is CNY 20–30 per person. The actual charge for Guangjiao Temple should be taken from the notice on the day of the visit.

The usual opening time is about 07:00–17:30, with possible changes by entrance and season. If you plan to enter at the North Gate and leave at the South Gate, finish the climb, summit visit and descent before the area closes.

Choose your visit

The hilltop temple and Zhiyun Pagoda

Guangjiao Temple stands on the summit, with Zhiyun Pagoda as its most recognisable landmark. From the top, you can look over the Yangtze River and Nantong. The slope is gentle, so walking is the main way to experience the hill; the cable car and sightseeing vehicle are options for visitors who need extra assistance, rather than required parts of the visit.

At the foot of the hill are the Luo Binwang Tomb, Jian Garden and Zhao Hui Shen Xiu Building. Visitors interested in Langshan's history and Zhang Jian's urban legacy can see these sites before climbing; visitors focused on the summit and temple can go directly uphill from the East Gate.

Who it suits

Langshan works well for short hikes, traditional architecture, city views and temple visits. It also suits families travelling with older adults or children. The climb is short, but the trail still includes steps and slopes; with children or older adults, start with the East Gate short route and extend it only if the group is comfortable.

If you prefer a quieter temple visit, enter through the South Gate or use it as your descent route and pass the incense area. The temple provides free incense, so you can use the temple's incense instead of buying more expensive incense outside the scenic area.

Photo locations

Zhiyun Pagoda works well for a low-angle view from the foot of the hill or from in front of the pagoda. From the summit, you can frame the Yangtze River and Nantong's urban area in the background. The "Entrance to the Mountain" archway and the plane trees along the Huangni Mountain road are also useful spots for architecture and walking photographs.

Build your day

About 1.5 hours: the East Gate short route

Enter through the East Gate and turn left onto the hiking trail. After about 30 minutes, you will reach the summit; visit Guangjiao Temple and Zhiyun Pagoda, then return the way you came or leave through another gate according to the day's exit and transport plan.

This route suits visitors with limited time, people arriving by public transport and anyone who mainly wants the climb and summit sights. Turning right after the East Gate leads toward the cable-car area; turn left for the main hiking trail.

About 2–3 hours: North Gate in, South Gate out

Enter through the North Gate and visit Jian Garden and Zhao Hui Shen Xiu Building at the foot of the hill. Walk to the East Gate, take the hiking trail to the summit, visit Guangjiao Temple and Zhiyun Pagoda, then descend through the South Gate and include the incense area on the way down.

This route combines the foothill gardens, the climb and the temple visit with less backtracking. If you are driving and need to return to a car at the North Gate, a North Gate out-and-back route is simpler; the North-to-South route works better when a pick-up or onward transport has already been arranged.

Get there

Metro and bus

Take Nantong Metro Line 1 to Langshan Station, then walk about 10 minutes to the scenic area. Bus routes 5, 13, 22, 35, 45 and 88 serve the area. If your main aim is to hike, use the East Gate side as your arrival direction.

Driving and parking

Navigate to Langshan Scenic Area; parking is more convenient at the North Gate. Parking areas are available by the entrances, with a reference rate of CNY 5 for up to 4 hours and CNY 10 per day after 4 hours. On weekends and public holidays, allow time to find a space before starting the visit.

Know before you go

Walking, cable cars and the return trip

Langshan is not high, and the summit takes about 30 minutes on foot. Comfortable walking shoes are enough for the main route. For visitors with normal mobility, walking is practical; the cable car and sightseeing vehicle depend on the group's needs and the day's plan.

If you descend through the South Gate, you will be away from the North Gate parking area. If you are driving alone, use an out-and-back route from the same gate or arrange a pick-up in advance. Do not wait until reaching the South Gate to work out how to return to the car.

Temple visit and food near the foot of the hill

The temple provides free incense, so there is no need to budget for high-priced incense sold outside the scenic area. Simple food such as Zilang vegetarian noodles is available at the foot of the hill; restaurants such as Zaoha Fish Market Restaurant can be considered after the descent, subject to the day's opening arrangements.

Ticket boundaries and changing arrangements

The scenic area itself is free, while some sites inside may charge separately. Charges, entrance access and temporary arrangements for sites such as Guangjiao Temple should be read separately from the day's notices; prices and entrance hours may change with on-site arrangements.
