Tickets and open areas
Dongqian Lake is in Dongqian Lake Town, Yinzhou District, Ningbo. Most of the public shoreline is free; sub-attractions such as Xiaoputuo and the Southern Song Stone Carving Park charge separately, with reference prices of about CNY 30 and CNY 55. Public shorelines can generally be entered throughout the day, while sub-attractions have their own hours and entry rules.
Entrances and visit time
Dongqian Lake Metro Station works well as a public-transport starting point. Xiaoputuo Visitor Centre is useful for the core scenic area, and Hanling Old Street is an entrance for the southern shore. Allow about 4 hours for the Academicians’ Centre, Liming Village and Xiaoputuo. Add Hanling, the International Lakes House or other shore sites and allow a full day; a deeper lake visit may take 1–2 days.
What kind of visit this is
Dongqian Lake suits lakeside walks, village visits, nature observation and a slower, section-by-section pace. The district is large, so roads, public transport, parking and independently operated services need separate planning. First-time visitors should start with a small number of shore sites and add more only if time and weather allow.

Academicians’ Centre and Liming Village
The Ningbo Academicians’ Centre was converted from an old school site. Its covered corridors and viewing platforms look across the lake. Liming Village sits beside the water and offers a relaxed section of village lanes, white-walled buildings and lakeside walking; cafés and other businesses have their own hours.
Xiaoputuo and the lakeside causeway
Xiaoputuo includes the lakeside causeway, water views and temple spaces, and is a separate paid sub-attraction. Electric vehicles cannot enter directly inside the scenic area. Walk or use the sightseeing vehicle according to the day’s arrangement; walking distance, vehicle operation and open areas depend on the conditions on site.
Hanling, wetlands and lakeside villages
The International Lakes House area has lawns, wetlands and a metasequoia path. Hanling Old Street is useful for village lanes and local snacks. Hanling Art Museum, camping grounds, activity spaces and other indoor services have separate access conditions and do not open automatically with the public shoreline.
Who should choose this visit
Nature and photography visitors can choose 2–3 shore sites and visit them in sections. Families may prefer short lakeside walks and lawn breaks. Cycling and camping require separate confirmation of vehicles, roads, rentals and sites; not every road around the lake suits cycling or extended stops.
Build your day
The four-hour lakeside route
Start at the Ningbo Academicians’ Centre, continue to Liming Village and then Xiaoputuo, and finish according to the road and transport conditions that day. Xiaoputuo includes walking inside the scenic area, and the three locations may require a transfer or a drive between them. Leave time for parking, transfers and the return to the metro station.
A one-day lake combination
First-time visitors can choose several of the Academicians’ Centre, Liming Village, Xiaoputuo, the International Lakes House and Hanling Old Street. The sites are far apart, so choose a shoreline direction first and remove stops according to weather and energy. Public areas and paid sub-attractions have separate entry arrangements.
A 1–2-day deeper lake visit
With more time, divide the eastern shore, southern shore and villages into different days, adding Guojiazhi, Xiao California and Riyuepo as lakeside observation points. Driving, cycling and walking have different route conditions. Whether a particular road, parking area or rental vehicle is available follows the same-day arrangement.
Planning the return
Public transport and lakeside services are unevenly distributed, and remote shore sites are poor places to wait for an unplanned ride. Before a long outing, decide on the final stop, the parking location or the route back to the metro station. End the farthest section early if the weather worsens.
Get there
Metro and lake transfers
Take Metro Line 4 to Dongqian Lake Station, then use the day’s lake bus, sightseeing vehicle or other transfer to reach a specific shore site. Shared bicycles or electric bikes may be available in some areas, but vehicle numbers, prices, road access and return locations must be checked separately. Do not assume a rental will be available.
Driving and parking
Search separately for Xiaoputuo No. 2 Parking, Taolu Parking or Caishen Temple Parking according to your route, then walk from the parking area into the relevant section. Capacity, fees, holiday traffic control and road arrangements may change. Park only where permitted and avoid stopping temporarily on narrow shore roads or village lanes.
Moving around the lake
Electric vehicles cannot enter directly into Xiaoputuo, and a ring road does not automatically make a continuous, easy walk or cycle route. Check the road and service conditions before a long transfer. With children or older travellers, choose shorter shoreline sections.
Know before you go
Free areas and paid sub-attractions
Public shorelines are free, while Xiaoputuo, the Southern Song Stone Carving Park, museums, camping grounds and other activities are managed separately. A ticket for one sub-attraction does not include entry to other sites, vehicle rental or activities.
Congestion, weather and water safety
The southern lake roads can become congested on weekends and holidays, and some parking areas may redirect vehicles before they fill. The lake has strong sun exposure and more mosquitoes in summer. Shorten the visit in strong wind or thunderstorms, on slippery shorelines or near hazardous water edges, and follow the on-site instructions.
Sunsets and food
Sunset views at Xiao California, Guojiazhi and other southern-shore points depend on weather, visibility and the route used to reach them. Prepare an alternative in cloudy or rainy weather. Food prices, queues and hours around Hanling Old Street and the lake change by business; read the price before ordering and do not base the return on one restaurant or a temporary activity.
