Plan at a glance

District ticket and access

Nantang Old Street is at 236 Nanjiao Road in Haishu District, Ningbo. Entry to the street is free and no reservation is required. The public streets can be walked throughout the day, while shops, restaurants, indoor heritage buildings, boats and nighttime activities set their own hours. Weekend and holiday evenings are busier.

Entrances and visit time

Nantang Old Street Archway is a practical start for the central section. Yongshui Bridge Wharf is the usual entrance for the river and boat area. Allow about 1–1.5 hours for the streets, riverside buildings and snacks; add indoor heritage buildings, river activities or a slower meal and allow about 3 hours.

What kind of visit this is

The street suits a short city walk, local snacks and Jiangnan-style lanes. The district is free, but individual shops and water activities charge separately. If you mainly want night views or open shops, arrive in the late afternoon; lighting and business hours depend on the day.

Choose your visit

Old buildings and the river

Yuan Residence, the old stage, grey-brick lanes and covered corridors form the main heritage content. Walking across Yongshui Bridge and along the river brings the lanes, bridge and water into one route, but indoor buildings have separate access conditions.

Snacks and local life

Oil pastries, tangyuan, rice cakes and other Ningbo snacks work well as stops along the walk. Shops, flavours, prices and queues change. When buying gifts, compare packaging, price and storage requirements; the food options on one street do not represent the whole of Ningbo.

Nighttime river activities

Yongshui Bridge Wharf may offer sampan rides or other water activities. Performances, routes, prices and departure times are separate arrangements. Check the day’s ticket and boarding conditions if you want a boat; an onshore walk still covers the main street visit.

Build your day

The 1–1.5-hour street route

Enter from the main archway, walk through the old street past Yuan Residence and the old stage, continue towards Yongshui Bridge and finish with a riverside walk. You can add one snack stop, but do not let a queue at one shop disrupt your return time.

The three-hour heritage-and-food route

Follow the main archway, Yuan Residence and the old stage, street snacks, Yongshui Bridge Wharf, the riverside path and the lantern-lined section. Indoor heritage spaces, boats and food each take time. Remove one item according to what is open instead of forcing everything into a fixed sequence.

An afternoon and night route

Arrive around 17:30, walk the riverside lanes first and then decide whether to stay longer according to the lighting, shops and water activities that are actually running. The onshore walk is enough for the night scenery. Confirm the crowds, parking and public transport before leaving.

Get there

Metro and walking

Take Metro Line 2 or 4 to Ningbo Railway Station, Exit B, and walk about 10–15 minutes. You can also take Line 4 to Xingning Bridge Station, Exit D, and walk about 5 minutes. The main archway and Yongshui Bridge Wharf lead to different parts of the district.

Driving and parking

By car, search for Nantang Old Street Underground Parking, or park near the south square of Ningbo Railway Station and walk in. Holiday spaces are limited, and the location, fee and entrance arrangement follow the day’s management. Keep the car outside the narrow lanes.

Moving around the street

The stone paving, bridges and riverside paths suit flat, comfortable shoes. The district is mainly explored on foot, and boats or other short-distance services do not replace the lane walk. Follow the on-site detour around crowds, construction or temporary closures.

Know before you go

Shop and activity hours

The street is open throughout the day, but shops, restaurants, indoor heritage spaces, boats and water performances do not share one schedule. Night lighting and seasonal activities may change, so confirm what is actually open after arrival.

Spending and queues

Weekends, holidays and dinner hours bring more people, and popular shops may have queues. Check the price, size and cancellation rules before buying food, drinks or boat products. Do not estimate your food budget from one shop’s promotion.

Walking, mosquitoes and photography

The stone paving makes good footwear important, and riverside mosquitoes are more noticeable in summer. Bring insect repellent and water. When photographing buildings, bridges or lanterns, keep shop entrances, residential paths and the bridge clear.
