Plan at a glance
Two areas about an hour apart
Baiyun Mountain is in Muyun Township, Fu'an, Ningde, Fujian. “Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area” and “Baiyun Peak / Lianfeng Temple” are two different areas about an hour's drive apart. For the glacial potholes, Jiulong Cave, and Feitian Well, navigate to the South Gate of Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area (Xianfu Service Area). For sunrise at Baiyun Peak, navigate to Lianfeng Temple or the area around Yunyang Hotel.
These are not the same entrance and do not share one ticket. Decide whether you want the geological scenic area or Baiyun Peak before leaving. Do not enter only “Baiyun Mountain” and wait until arrival to work out which area you reached.
Tickets, hours, and time needed
Admission plus the scenic shuttle for Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area commonly costs about CNY 92. Sunrise at Baiyun Peak is free; the ticket scope is different. The geological scenic area is open 8:00–16:30, with entry stopping at 16:30. Baiyun Peak can be entered all day, but a pre-dawn hike requires a separate assessment of the road, weather, and safety.
The Jiulong Cave short route takes about 2 hours, and the geological scenic area's highlights hike takes about 3–4 hours. If you also want sunrise at Baiyun Peak, plan two days and one night. Sea of clouds, sunrise, and Buddha's light all depend on the weather and cannot be guaranteed.

Jiulong Cave, glacial potholes, and Feitian Well
Jiulong Cave, Jiulong Wall, Feitian Well, and Hulu Pool show the area's geological features. One of the individual glacial potholes is about 38 m deep. The changing spaces inside the cave, on the rock walls, and along the riverbed reward a slower look, but the cave is slippery. Do not enter an unopened area to find a better angle.
Feitian Well and Hulu Pool fit naturally into the geological scenic-area route and require a combination of the scenic shuttle and walking. Temperatures can differ between the cave and the mountain top, so bring a light jacket even in summer. A short route still requires physical effort; it is not simply a sightseeing-vehicle ride.
Baiyun Peak and who it suits
Baiyun Peak is about 1,450 m above sea level. The main experience is climbing before dawn for the ridge and high-elevation views. Sunrise, sea of clouds, stars, and Buddha's light all depend on fog, rain, and visibility. Do not enter an unfamiliar mountain road at night just to chase one type of weather.
Baiyun Mountain suits visitors interested in geology, drivers, and photographers with some hiking experience. With family members, choose the Jiulong Cave short route and first assess the steps, slippery surfaces, and shuttle arrangements. The pre-dawn Baiyun Peak route is not a good default activity for older adults or young children.
Build your day
A 2-hour geological short route
Enter through the South Gate, follow the scenic transport arrangement to the Jiulong Cave area, visit Jiulong Cave, Feitian Well, and Hulu Pool, then return along the original route or by the transport open that day. Even the short route needs time for the shuttle queue, walking inside the cave, and the return.
Do not try to switch from the geological scenic area to Baiyun Peak for sunrise at the last minute. The two areas are about an hour apart and have different navigation targets, opening periods, and parking locations.
A 3–4 hour highlights hike
From the Xianfu Service Area at the South Gate, take the scenic shuttle to Youlong Cave or Chanxi Village, then walk past Waterfall Rock, Jiulong Wall, Jiulong Cave, Feitian Well, and Hulu Pool. Return downhill by the scenic transport arranged that day. Confirm the actual shuttle stops and operating conditions on site.
The route combines wet cave floors with mountain paths and steps. Leave enough time for water, rest, and the last downhill transport. Do not continue uphill just before the entry cutoff in order to cover every stop.
A two-day, one-night geology-and-sunrise plan
Spend the first day at Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area and stay at the foot of the mountain. If the road and time allow, you can visit Xita Grape Valley in the afternoon. Before dawn on the second day, drive to Lianfeng Temple, then walk about 20 minutes up Baiyun Peak and return to Muyang Town for a meal. Navigate the two days separately; there is no walking route connecting the two areas in one day.
If it rained the day before, or fog or road conditions are poor, cancel the pre-dawn climb. Baiyun Peak being open all day does not mean a night climb is safe, nor that the peak has reliable signal, lighting, or return transport.
Get there
Driving and the two navigation targets
For the geological scenic area, navigate to “Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area South Gate” or “Xianfu Service Area.” For Baiyun Peak, navigate to “Lianfeng Temple” or “Yunyang Hotel.” Mountain roads have many bends, and the final 3 km to Baiyun Peak is narrow, so drive slowly if you are unfamiliar with the route.
There are parking areas near both the South Gate and Lianfeng Temple, but one parking lot is not a transfer point for the other area. Decide which route you are taking and cache the map before leaving.
High-speed rail and public transport
From Fu'an Station, take a taxi or bus to Fu'an Bus Station, then bus Route 18 to Muyang Town, followed by rural passenger transport to Xianfu Village. Departures are infrequent and the connections are complicated. Public transport is not suitable as the only plan for a pre-dawn Baiyun Peak hike.
Non-driving visitors should arrange the return from Muyang Town to the scenic area and accommodation in advance. Mountain signal can be intermittent, so do not assume that a last-minute ride request will work.
Know before you go
Routes, temperature changes, and equipment
The cave and peak may be much cooler than the foothills. Bring a light jacket or windproof layer. Jiulong Cave is slippery, so wear shoes with good grip in the geological scenic area. There are many mountain paths and steps; carry enough drinking water and simple food.
Small shops in the scenic area are limited, and Chanxi Village provides only some supplies. Do not interpret “there is a shop in the scenic area” as meaning that water or food will be available along every section.
Weather, roads, and safety
The scenic area may close in heavy rain, and rain or fog can reduce visibility in the caves, on mountain paths, and at Baiyun Peak. Check the weather before leaving and follow closures and evacuation arrangements on site. Do not enter a closed cave or path, or an unlit ridgeline at night.
Baiyun Peak, Jiulong Cave, and Lianfeng Temple do not share a ticket or route. Sunrise, sea of clouds, and stars are never guaranteed; a safe return matters more than waiting for one particular view.
