Plan at a glance

Actual location and entrance

Yuanyang Grassland is in Yuanyangtou Village, Dongyuan Township, Zherong County, Ningde, Fujian, at about 980–1,110 m elevation. The Yuanyang Grassland Scenic Area ticket gate is a commonly used entrance. Set the navigation destination to Yuanyangtou Village in Dongyuan Township, Zherong County; this attraction is not in Fuding.

Admission commonly costs CNY 60 per person. Scenic activities require separate purchases, with activity packages commonly around CNY 149–195. Whether the small train, cable car, glass slide, and other activities are operating depends on the day's arrangements. Hours are 8:30–17:30 from May to October and 8:30–17:00 from November to April. Entry may stop around 16:00, and activities commonly finish around 17:00.

Time needed and who it suits

Allow about 2 hours for an easy visit, 3–4 hours for the classic route, and 4–5 hours for a deeper hike. The scenic area is remote, and wind, fog, supplies, and return transport at the summit can all affect the actual duration.

This suits drivers, meadow photographers, and visitors with outdoor experience. Families with children or visitors who do not want a long walk can choose a shorter route according to the activities open that day, but do not treat the small train, cable car, or glass slide as fixed facilities.

Choose your visit

Alpine meadow and ridge views

The main scenery is alpine meadow, wind turbines, wooden boardwalks, and ridge views. Grass color changes with the season, weather, maintenance, and rainfall. Green is more likely from May to September, but arrival does not guarantee a particular color or visibility.

The Rainbow Boardwalk, Wind Turbine Viewing Platform, Sky Mirror, and Yuanyang Stone summit can be stops on different routes. Confirm each installation and activity at ticket check and on site, including whether it is open, usable, and subject to an extra fee.

Who it suits

Families can choose a route with less walking, while photographers can focus on the meadow, turbines, and ridge. Outdoor visitors can take the large meadow loop, but should download the route in advance and carry windproof clothing, water, and supplies.

Weather changes quickly on the grassland. Cloud, rain, and heavy fog can sharply reduce the view. Do not treat one online photograph, a fixed grass color, or a particular activity as a guarantee for the trip.

Build your day

A 2-hour short route

After entering through the main gate, first confirm whether the small train, boardwalks, and viewing activities are open. Then use the day's transport arrangement to reach the Rainbow Boardwalk, Wind Turbine Viewing Platform, and Sky Mirror. The end of an activity may be away from the Visitor Center, so calculate the walk back in advance.

This route suits families with children and visitors who do not want to walk far. If the small train, cable car, or another activity is suspended, use a safe walking route instead of entering an unopened road to preserve the original plan.

A 3–4 hour panoramic route

First-time visitors can take the small train if it is operating, then walk to the cable-car platform. Whether the cable car, Yuanyang Stone summit, wooden boardwalk, and glass slide can be used in that order depends on the operation on site. The glass-slide terminal is far from the Visitor Center, and walking back commonly takes 30–40 minutes.

The physical demand of this route is not determined only by the rides. The climb, boardwalk, and return section still require walking, so confirm the final activity cutoff and return vehicle together.

A 4–5 hour hiking route

Visitors with outdoor experience can enter the large meadow loop from the area around Yuanyangtou Village, pass the main summit and ridgeline, and return to the scenic-area gate. Use a downloaded track, carry enough water, and turn back early when fog thickens, wind increases, or the path becomes muddy.

Enter through the official ticket gate and stay on the route clearly open that day. Do not bypass the gate or enter an unauthorized mountain path to avoid the ticket or change the route.

Get there

Driving to the main gate

Navigate to “Yuanyang Grassland Parking Lot.” Parking is usually ample and free, and the nearby roads are relatively straightforward to drive. After arriving, confirm the ticket gate, activity times, and return vehicle. Do not treat an informal path beside the parking lot as an entrance.

The attraction is remote, so it may be difficult to find a ride at short notice after descending. Non-driving visitors especially need to contact a driver or accommodation in advance. Do not assume a taxi will always be available.

Train, coach, and taxi

From Fuding Station, you can take a coach to Zherong County town, a journey of about 1 hour, then take a taxi to the scenic area, usually about 20 minutes. You can also take a taxi or shared ride directly from Fuding Station, which takes about 1.5 hours and commonly costs CNY 130–160. There are records of coaches from Zherong Bus Station, but departures are limited and should not be relied on at the last minute.

Set the navigation destination to Yuanyangtou Village in Dongyuan Township, Zherong County. Do not confuse the direction from Fuding Station with the attraction's actual location. Agree on the driver and meeting point for the return in advance, especially if the final activity ends late.

Know before you go

Weather, wind, and meadow conditions

The grassland is sensitive to weather and visibility. Cloud, heavy fog, and strong wind can reduce the view and may suspend activities or paths. Check the weather before leaving, then follow the scenic notice, staff instructions, and actual road conditions on site. Do not enter fog or a closed section for a photo.

There is little shelter at the summit, so ultraviolet exposure and wind can be strong. Bring a hat, sun protection, and a light windproof jacket. Meadows, boardwalks, and ridge paths cannot be assumed to stay dry and level; shoes with good grip are more suitable.

Activities, supplies, and the return

There are few vending machines on the mountain, and café or dining hours may change. Bring enough water and food. The cable car, slide, small train, and other activities each have their own closing time; do not join a final queue and then try to arrange the return afterward.

The walk from the glass-slide terminal to the Visitor Center may still take 30–40 minutes. Children must follow the on-site height and accompaniment rules. Rides are difficult to find after descending, so keep the driver's or accommodation's phone number in advance. Do not build the plan around unconfirmed hotel discounts, activity availability, or taxi promises.
