After entering Feixia Scenic Area through the Dongkou main gate, you need to cross the river by ferry, then use sightseeing vehicles and mountain paths. The scenic area can be treated as open all day, but ferries usually operate around 08:30–20:00; for a relaxed return, start coming down by 17:30.
Online packages commonly combine admission, return ferry travel and sightseeing vehicles. Confirm what is included when buying, and ask about the day’s last ferry before deciding whether there is time for the full walking route.
This is for culture and forested hills, not a thrill-ride day
Feixia’s focus is Cangxia Cave, Feixia Cave, historic buildings, mountain paths and Beijiang River views. Travellers seeking rafting, glass attractions or large amusement rides should plan a different day; visitors with older adults or children can use sightseeing vehicles more and reduce the climb.
Stone steps can be mossy after rain, and some older buildings are not suitable to approach closely. This is a mountain visit for moving slowly and watching your footing, not a rushed checklist.

2–3 hours: cross by ferry and visit the core caves
Enter through the Dongkou main gate, cross the river, take the sightseeing vehicle to the mid-mountain area, visit Cangxia Cave and Feixia Cave, then take the vehicle back down to catch the ferry. This limits walking and suits travellers short on time or unwilling to climb far.
Ferries and sightseeing vehicles may both involve waiting, so do not treat 2–3 hours as a minute-by-minute fixed duration. If arriving in the afternoon, confirm the return-ferry rhythm first.
4–5 hours: historic buildings and the hilltop view
Travellers with sufficient stamina can follow Cangxia Cave, Ligeng Study, Feixia Cave, Huangdi Shrine, Phoenix Tower, Changtian Tower, Songfeng Pavilion, Jinxia Zen Temple and Cangxia Arch downhill. The climb around Changtian Tower is more substantial, so leave time to rest and drink water.
This route suits visitors interested in historic architecture and river views. In wet conditions or with companions who cannot walk far, turn back after Feixia Cave rather than forcing an extended climb.

Learn how to call the sightseeing vehicle before going uphill
After crossing the river, the sightseeing vehicle may not leave on a fixed timetable and you may need to call the staff number posted at the waiting pavilion. Save the number or ask how to call a vehicle on your first stop, so you do not wait on the mountain road when coming down.
Use the vehicle to reach higher ground first, then visit the caves and buildings while moving downhill; this saves energy compared with climbing the entire route in reverse. Do not mix the ferry here with the boats for Feilai Temple, as the two services have different destinations.
Manage your energy between Feixia Cave and Changtian Tower
Feixia Cave can be the main stop for most visitors. Before continuing to Changtian Tower, assess the day’s dampness, shoe grip and remaining ferry time. Songfeng Pavilion has open views and works well as a rest point rather than a place to rush past.
View Jinxia Zen Temple and older structures from safe areas; do not enter places with obvious deterioration, barriers or danger notices. Supplies are limited along the route, so bringing water and snacks is more reliable than looking for shops.
Get there
Drive to the Dongkou main-gate area
The drive from Qingyuan city takes around 40 minutes; navigate to “Feixia Scenic Area (Dongkou section)” for the main entrance. You can park outside the main gate and walk about 3–5 minutes to the ferry pier; if choosing to drive farther into the park, weigh the actual walking saved against the extra arrangement.
The mountain road has many bends, so drive slowly. Taxis are available from Qingyuan Railway Station or Yuantan Railway Station; minibuses and route 109 are infrequent, so public-transport users should build return time into the plan.
The ferry is part of the arrival process
Ferries usually run about every 10–20 minutes; confirm the return period when you reach the pier. If the afternoon departure leaves little time before the final ferry, follow the core short route rather than climbing high and hurrying back down.
Use the facilities or eat near the pier before crossing, as choices on the mountain are limited. Groups should keep the same meeting plan through the ferry, vehicle and walking sections.
Know before you go
Footwear, rain protection and supplies come before photography gear
Wear non-slip trainers: wet steps, moss and damp sections increase the risk of slipping after rain. Bring a light layer, insect repellent, water and light food, and leave time for the downhill ferry. Do not take the longer Changtian Tower route in heavy rain or on very wet paths.
Do not approach older buildings with barriers, deterioration or danger notices. Safety matters more than completing the original route in rain, on slippery ground, or where falling-rock risk is present.
Choose food and guiding services only when useful
Guiding services may be available at the entrance, but they are not necessary for a basic visit; choose one only if you want architectural context. For riverside seafood in Baimiao Fishing Village, ask about the price and preparation method before ordering.
Feixia and Feilai Temple are about 3 km apart, but their entrances, ferries and visit logic are not interchangeable. They can be planned separately on the same day or on different days; always confirm the route for the specific destination before boarding.
