Plan at a glance
Decide first whether rafting belongs in your day
Gulong Gorge works best as a full day combining waterfall paths, high-altitude attractions and rafting. If you only want the waterfalls and high-altitude rides, allow around 3–4 hours. Rafting usually runs from April to October, roughly 12:00–16:00 on weekdays and 10:00–16:30 on weekends and public holidays; outside rafting season, high-altitude attractions can be planned around 09:00–17:00.
The rafting course is about 6.1 km with a total drop of about 378 m, and you should expect to get thoroughly wet. Travellers who do not want to enter the water, dislike heights or are not suited to high-intensity activities should choose the waterfall and viewing route rather than a full-project package.
Use P2 Parking and the visitor centre as your arrival point
There is no separate park-entry charge; rafting, Yuntian Glass Walk and the two ride attractions are sold individually or in packages. Book with real-name registration at least one day ahead where possible, as capacity can be limited in busy periods; keep the printed ticket because it may be checked again for the sightseeing shuttle and rafting.
For drivers, navigate to “Gulong Gorge P2 Parking”, the closest parking area to the visitor centre. From Qingyuan Railway Station, a taxi ride is about 30 km and around 50 minutes; public-transport transfers take much longer, so non-drivers should arrange the return journey in advance.

Use the standard admission package for the core shuttle route; confirm the visit date and current opening hours before checkout.

Half day: waterfalls and high-altitude attractions
From the visitor centre, take the sightseeing shuttle uphill, walk the Gulong Nine Waterfalls, use the Dengfeng Lift to reach Yuntian Glass Walk, then take the Cliff Coaster downhill. This takes about 3–4 hours and suits travellers with limited time who are not rafting.
Yuntian Glass Walk includes glass structures and high viewing points. Travellers with a strong fear of heights, reduced mobility, pregnancy, or other reasons not to use high-altitude attractions should stay with the waterfall paths and allow extra rest time.
Full day: high-altitude attractions in the morning, rafting in the afternoon
For the main experiences, do Yuntian Glass Walk, the Cliff Coaster and the Gorge QQ Coaster in the morning, have lunch, then join the rafting session and pause in the river valley before leaving. Allow about 5–6 hours; rafting after lunch means you do not need to continue joining long queues in wet clothes.
The two coaster rides can connect into one downhill sequence, but the on-site map does not always make this clear. Ask staff about the connection before starting so you do not backtrack. Standard rafting queues can become very long in peak periods, so early arrival or a weekday visit is more reliable.
Build your day
Non-rafting route: waterfalls first, high-altitude attractions second
After leaving the visitor centre, walk the Gulong Nine Waterfalls first and slow down on damp sections. Then take the Dengfeng Lift to Yuntian Glass Walk. Finish the elevated attractions with the Cliff Coaster downhill, combining the main descent with an experience.
Do not schedule the two coaster rides at unrelated times. Confirm where they connect before setting off to reduce transfers and unnecessary walking.
Full-project route: keep rafting for the afternoon
Complete the dry high-altitude attractions and coaster rides in the morning, then have lunch, organise waterproof gear and go to the rafting meeting point. Rafting leaves you soaked, so it is more comfortable to change clothes, collect the car or travel back straight afterwards.
If some people in your group are not rafting, let them follow the waterfall and viewing attractions instead, and agree on a meeting point at the visitor centre or parking area before you split up.
Get there
Driving works best when you arrive before the crowds
P2 Parking and the Gulong Hotel area are convenient; on weekends, aim to reach the parking area around 07:30. The uphill main road can become heavily congested after 09:00. Leave dry clothes and non-waterproof belongings in the car after parking instead of carrying large bags through the attractions.
Do not take informal roadside motorcycle rides uphill. If you are not driving, use a licensed taxi or ride-hailing service directly from Qingyuan Railway Station and leave time to arrange transport back.
Handle ticket checks and storage at the visitor centre
Keep the printed ticket issued for an online booking until all attractions are finished. The sightseeing shuttle and rafting meeting point may both check it again, and replacing it can disrupt the planned route.
Lockers and waterproof supplies can be in short supply during busy periods. Arriving light and keeping valuable electronics in a dependable waterproof bag will reduce time spent at the entrance.
Know before you go
Pack for rafting as a full-water activity
Wear stream shoes or sandals that secure to your feet, rather than loose flip-flops. Bring goggles, a waterproof bag, quick-dry long sleeves and trousers, plus a complete change of clothes. Check your helmet and safety equipment before launching, and do not skip the staff briefing on braking and safety actions.
Water conditions and ride intensity are not suitable for everyone. Travellers with a fear of heights, pregnancy, advanced age, insufficient height, or a health condition that makes the activity unsuitable should follow the on-site restrictions and not force themselves onto rafting or cliffside attractions.
Treat queues, wet clothes and the return as part of the itinerary
Afternoon rafting is often the day’s longest wait. A weekday or early arrival can reduce uncertainty significantly. Showering, changing and returning to the car also take time, so do not book an immediately following train or dinner too tightly.
Gulong Gorge can be a high-intensity day on its own, or the first day of a two-day route with Bijia Mountain Tourist Area. Bijia Mountain’s waterfalls and stream adventure are lower in intensity, making it a good change of pace for day two.
