How to Visit
1

Buy the ticket you actually need

At the visitor center, ask for entry plus shuttle if you do not need the full guide package. Online products may include extras.

Tip:Do not assume the most expensive package is required.
2

Follow the main halls clockwise

Start from the entrance and move through the main temple buildings in a respectful order. Inside halls, follow staff instructions.

Tip:Photography is usually not allowed inside main halls.
3

Add the lake-view angle

The Lamuyangcuo / outer boardwalk area gives the classic full-monastery reflection and exterior photo angle.

Tip:This is often better for photos than crowded temple steps.
4

Use the free distant viewpoint if skipping entry

If you only want exterior photos, use the hill viewpoints outside the paid core area instead of entering the monastery.

Tip:This is a good sunset option.
Highlights
  • The largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan
  • Golden roofs and layered halls with strong exterior photo angles
  • Lamuyangcuo lake reflections and distant-view platforms
  • A useful cultural stop close to Shangri-La city
  • Bus access from the old-town area
Insider Tips

Dress modestly and remove hats or sunglasses where required.

Do not point cameras at monks or worshippers without permission.

Go in the morning if you want calmer temple interiors.

Use the shuttle if stairs and altitude are a concern.

Pair it with Napa Sea or the prayer-flag area on the same side of town.
