Location, entrances and visit scope
Fengshan Ancestral Temple is on the middle section of Haibin Avenue in central Shanwei, at the foot of Fengshan and facing Pinqing Lake. The main gate is best for a standard visit, while Qinglong Gate on the left is useful for framing the Mazu statue with the temple buildings. The temple, Fengyi Terrace, intangible heritage hall and lakeside can be combined into one city cultural visit.
Tickets and opening hours
The main temple is free and does not require a reservation. Fengyi Terrace and the Mazu statue platform are usually around CNY 15, with half price for students; access may change during festivals or maintenance. Normal opening hours are 8:30–18:00, with last entry at 17:30, and one to three hours is a suitable allowance.
How it fits a Shanwei itinerary
The site suits prayer, Mazu culture, modern Chinese-style or Hanfu photography, and onward travel to Pinqing Lake or Erma Road. On the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, or around Mazu’s birthday, the focus shifts toward worship activity and both crowds and parking pressure increase.

One- to two-hour quick route
Enter through Qinglong Gate, see the Mazu statue, visit Tianhou Pavilion and walk the seafront promenade. If time is short, do not force in Fengyi Terrace; keep the temple itself and the lakeside as the core.
Three-hour cultural half-day
Visit Fengshan Ancestral Temple, the intangible cultural heritage exhibition hall and Fengyi Terrace in sequence, then walk to Erma Road for local snacks. If Fengyi Terrace is closed, use the time for Pinqing Lake’s waterfront instead.
Old-town city walk
Start at the temple, cycle along Pinqing Lake’s waterfront avenue, pass Yuzai Island and continue to Erma Road night market. This route works best from late afternoon, when lake light, dinner and the night market can naturally follow one another.
Build your day
The Mazu statue and Tianhou Pavilion
Begin at the 16.83-metre Mazu stone statue, made from 468 granite blocks and facing Pinqing Lake, then continue to Tianhou Pavilion. Respect prayer order inside the hall and do not hold up narrow passages for photographs.
Fengyi Terrace and lake views
If Fengyi Terrace is open, climb for views of Fengshan, Dinggaishan, Yuzaishan and Pinqing Lake, often described together as “three mountains and one lake.” Allow for the steps; if you do not climb, spend more time on the lakeside seafront promenade.
Intangible heritage and a city extension
The exhibition hall introduces local traditions including Baizi Opera, Xiqin Opera, Lufeng shadow puppetry and shell carving. Afterward, continue toward Erma Road or cycle on to Yuzai Island to connect cultural sightseeing with a slower city walk.
Get there
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Fengshan Ancestral Temple Tourist Area,” but parking inside is limited. Consider marked spaces on Haibin Street or Tonggang Road, at around CNY 3 per hour and free after 20:00. On public holidays, taxis or shared electric scooters are often easier.
High-speed rail, buses and taxis
A taxi from Shanwei Railway Station takes around 15–20 minutes. Buses 2, 6, 9 and 108 stop at Fengshan Mazu Square, followed by a short walk into the site.
Short city transfers
The temple, Pinqing Lake and Erma Road can be linked by shared electric scooter. When cycling near the lake in the evening, allow for lighting and parking rules, and do not leave scooters at the temple entrance or on pedestrian routes.
Know before you go
Maintenance and access changes
Fengyi Terrace and some exhibition spaces occasionally undergo maintenance. If a terrace climb or exhibition visit is a priority, keep Pinqing Lake walking or Erma Road dining as a substitute rather than relying on one platform or gallery alone.
Incense and visitor etiquette
Incense sold outside the temple can be expensive; visitors can make a voluntary offering and take incense according to their own wishes. Avoid exaggerated photo poses, blocking prayer routes or disturbing people who are worshipping.
Best time and clothing
Before 9:00 is relatively quiet, while after 17:00 works well for sunset and evening lights. Light-coloured or modern Chinese-style clothing works with the red walls and green tiles; wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for the steps.
