Shanwei Museum is in Building 7 of the Sports Centre on Chengye Road in central Shanwei, with a Guzu Boat displayed outside. The first floor focuses on Haifeng-Lufeng history and culture, while the second covers intangible cultural heritage. Around one hour is enough for a basic visit.
Admission and opening hours
Individual entry is free and does not require a reservation; register at the entrance. Groups need advance arrangements. The museum is open Tuesday–Friday, 10:00–17:00; weekends and public holidays, 9:30–17:30; it is closed on Mondays except public holidays.
How it fits a city visit
The museum suits families, history and culture visitors, stamp collectors and slower city exploration. It does not need a full day of its own; use it before Fengshan Ancestral Temple, Pinqing Lake or Erma Road night market.

One-hour quick visit
Start outside with the Guzu Boat, then visit the first-floor history gallery, the second-floor intangible heritage gallery and the stamping desk to the right of the entrance. If the Guzu Boat experience has a queue, complete the two floors first and return later.
Two- to three-hour cultural half-day
Continue from the museum to Fengshan Ancestral Temple, then walk Pinqing Lake’s lakeside boardwalk and go to Erma Road for dinner. This combines indoor exhibitions, religious architecture, a lakeside walk and food within the same part of the city.
City connection route
From the museum, go to the small fishing village, then Zhongshan Ferry Pier for a sightseeing boat, and finish at Shashewai for sunset. Confirm boat and ferry times before leaving the museum, so the visit does not cause you to miss water transport.

Guzu Boat: begin with water-based life
The Guzu Boat outside reflects the water-based life of the Dan people and works as the first stop before entering the galleries. Entry to the cabin is limited to 10 people at a time, so follow the queue and capacity arrangements.
First floor: the Haifeng-Lufeng historical story
The first floor moves from early settlement and Dongkengnan archaeological finds to Ming and Qing coastal defence, with ship models and interactive rudder displays. Follow the timeline first, then return to sea and shipping displays to understand Shanwei’s coastal culture.
Second floor: intangible heritage and interactive exhibits
The second floor shows Jiazi shell carving, Jiesheng clay sculpture, gold-lacquer wood carving and straw painting, alongside Lufeng shadow-puppet interaction and a navigation simulator. Allow extra time for the Daan Rolling Golden Dragon and Gaizai Lion, then return to the entrance area for the nine museum stamps.
Get there
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Shanwei Museum.” Parking in front of the museum is free but limited; the Sports Centre car park and marked spaces on Haibin Avenue are alternatives. Large vehicles are not well suited to the narrow access roads around the museum.
Buses and taxis
Buses 114 and 108 stop at Xianghu Garden, followed by a short walk. A taxi from Shanwei Railway Station takes around 15 minutes, making the museum a useful first city stop after arrival.
Short city transfers
The museum, Fengshan Ancestral Temple and Pinqing Lake can be linked by shared electric scooter. If cycling onward to Erma Road or the lakeside, leave enough time for dinner and night travel rather than postponing all city movement until after closing.
Know before you go
Monday closure and group visitors
The museum closes every Monday, and weekend and public-holiday hours differ from weekday hours. Arrive in the morning where possible. If group visitors are present, start with quieter galleries and leave the interactive areas and Guzu Boat for later.
Capacity limits and stamps
The Guzu Boat cabin is limited to 10 people at a time and may require a queue. There are nine museum stamps to the right of the entrance; bring your own notebook or buy a stamp book, and use only the designated stamping area.
Facilities and visitor comfort
The museum is strongly air-conditioned, so bring a light layer. Toilets are in front of the museum parking area, making it practical to use them before entering. The shell-carving gallery has soft light; keep photography unobtrusive and do not disturb other visitors.
