One- to two-hour quick route
Enter through the main gate, see the old fort, pass through Senyu Garden, stop for coffee if you wish, then continue to the coast for sunset. If time is limited, prioritise the fort viewpoint and the later-afternoon sea view rather than adding too many nearby stops.
A sunset stop in a two-day Red Bay route
Use the first part of the day for Zhelang Wonder, Stone Islet, Nanhai Guanyin Temple and the Sea Castle. Place Fort Park later in the day, then continue to the Seaside Road coffee street or Shuiguoliao Market.
A public-transport day trip
Take Bus 116 from Shanwei Railway Station to Zhelang Service Centre, then walk or take a short connection to Fort Park. After the visit, walk along the coastal road and return according to the bus schedule. This is best for visitors who are not driving and do not plan to cover the whole peninsula.
Build your day
The fort remains: climb first, then rest
After entering, see the gun positions, beacon tower, barracks traces and granite walls, then climb to the higher section for views across three sides of the sea, fishing boats and sailing-training waters. There are many steps, so move at your own pace and stop only on level, protected ground.
Senyu Garden and coffee
On the way down, pass through Senyu Garden and decide whether to use the ticket credit at the coffee shop. The garden and waterfront café are best for a relaxed afternoon stop; do not rush through the fort and sea views simply to reach the coffee area.
Sunset and the next stop
In clear weather, stay until around 17:50–18:30 to watch fishing boats return and the sun lower over the sea. From the park, you can walk to the Seaside Road coffee street. If you are continuing to Erma Road night market, allow time for the return journey.
Get there
Driving and parking
Navigate to “Zhelang Fort Park”; roadside parking is free near the park. Holiday visits still require extra time for finding a space, and it is more efficient to walk between the park and the coastal road than repeatedly moving the car over short distances.
High-speed rail and Bus 116
From Shanwei Railway Station, take Bus 116 to Zhelang Service Centre for around CNY 5 and 40–50 minutes. From there, rent a scooter or take a taxi. If Fort Park and the coastal road are your only stops, arrange a direct connection to the park entrance.
Getting around the peninsula
Electric scooters usually cost CNY 30–40 per day and work well for short coastal transfers. If you also plan to visit Nanhai Guanyin Temple or the Sea Castle, decide on your parking and walking order in advance to avoid backtracking.
Know before you go
Tickets and café credit
If you plan to use the café, confirm how the ticket credit is applied before ordering. If you only want to visit the fort, the CNY 10 ticket still covers the historic remains and sea views.
Facilities and clothing
Toilets in the park are basic, so it may be more comfortable to use facilities before entering or on the coastal road. The sea is windy and exposed to strong UV, so bring sun protection and sunglasses. Wear non-slip shoes for the steps.
Timing and crowds
16:00–17:00 gives softer light and leaves time for sunset. Weekdays are quieter; weekend and public-holiday afternoons may bring group visitors, so do not leave the visit too late.
