The south gate is more practical for direct worship
The south-gate worship area is free. Entry through the north gate costs about CNY 25, while Fuxing Pagoda costs a further CNY 5–10; all tickets can be bought on site and no reservation is required. The scenic area is open from 8:30 am to 5 pm, with entry ending at 4:30 pm; the south-gate worship area remains accessible all day.

Allow around 1.5 hours for the temple and pagoda only
Enter through the south gate, pass the archway and Dragon Wall, visit the main hall of Yuanshan Temple, then climb Fuxing Pagoda for views of Jieshi Bay. If time is limited, there is no need to include every garden and surrounding feature.
Allow three hours for a first visit; worshippers can stay at their own pace
A half-day route can add Qilin Rock, the old opera stage, Zideju Garden, and Jieshi Old Street. Visitors coming chiefly to worship can spend more time in the temple, at the wishing tree, and at the pagoda. Weekday mornings are calmer than the busy first and fifteenth lunar days.

Complete the temple visit before looking at the surrounding heritage features
Yuanshan Temple dates from the Southern Song period. Inside, look for plaques including “Shui De Ling Chang” and “Ling Sheng Man Dao,” as well as the Lingnan palace-style architecture. If you bring incense or fruit for worship, follow your own practice; keep quiet in the halls and do not photograph directly toward the deities.
Use Fuxing Pagoda as the route’s uphill finish
On the way from the temple to the pagoda, you will pass the Dragon Wall and old opera stage. The pagoda gives broad views of Jieshi Bay and the town; assess your energy before climbing, then either return to the south gate or continue through Zideju Garden and on to Jieshi Old Street.

Driving is the easiest option; parking depends on the gate
Navigate to “Xuanwu Mountain Tourist Area.” South-gate parking is about CNY 10 per visit; there are some roadside spaces near the north gate, though they fill quickly on holidays. If you enter through the south gate, avoid parking too far away to reduce the walk back after your visit.
Use a taxi or transfer via Jieshi after arriving by high-speed rail
From Lufeng Station or Lufeng East Station, a taxi takes around 20–40 minutes; agree on the fare before leaving. You can also take the Lufeng–Jieshi bus from Lufeng Yueyun Bus Terminal, then walk from Jieshi Bus Station into the scenic area.
Know before you go
The right timing makes the visit much calmer
Before 9 am is generally quieter, while 2–4 pm has better light for the buildings and mountain views. Avoid the morning tour-group and worship peak on holidays. If you plan to climb Fuxing Pagoda, start before 5 pm rather than leaving it to the end.
Do not buy every item or activity before deciding what you need
For north-gate visits, consider admission, pagoda access, and worship items separately; compare incense shops before buying. The complex has many steps, so flat shoes are preferable. Thin pancakes, rice cakes, vegetable tea, and seafood stalls in town are more flexible meal options than eating inside the scenic area.
