Plan at a glance
Mausoleum, shrine, temple and visitor center
Dayu Mausoleum is at the foot of Kuaiji Mountain in Yuecheng District, Shaoxing. The usual entrance is the Dayu Mausoleum Scenic Area Visitor Center. The area includes the Sacred Way, Yu Sacrifice Square, the Dayu Mausoleum Stele Pavilion, Yu Shrine, Yu Temple, the Dayu Memorial Hall and Bird Paradise. The area is large: allow about 2 hours for a low-effort route, 3-4 hours for a complete route and 4-5 hours if you add the climb and Xianglu Peak.
Adult admission is RMB 60, with half-price tickets of RMB 30 for students and older adults. Bird Paradise is included. Reservations can be made through the Shaoxing Cultural Tourism Group WeChat account. Visitors from outside Shaoxing need to buy a ticket; Shaoxing residents enter free on non-statutory holidays. The scenic area is open 8:00-17:00, with last entry at 16:30. The Dayu Memorial Hall is closed on Mondays, and the mountain path closes at 17:00.
Level routes and 957 steps
The scenic area is large, with long distances between sections. The shuttle bus is a separately arranged transport option. Its reference price is RMB 20 for unlimited rides, RMB 5 one way to the memorial hall or square, and RMB 10 one way to Bird Paradise. Choose whether to buy it according to the group's stamina and route on the day.
The mountain path has 957 steps to the Dayu bronze statue. Climbing and using the shuttle for the level sections are different-intensity choices. The shuttle does not go directly to the summit statue; visitors who want to climb must continue on foot from the trail.

Memorial hall and Sacred Way
Dayu Mausoleum suits history and culture visitors, families on educational trips and anyone looking for a cultural site away from the busiest city attractions. Ancient trees and twelve pairs of sacred-animal stone statues line the Sacred Way. Yu Sacrifice Square, the stele pavilion, Yu Shrine and Yu Temple form the main level section.
The Dayu Memorial Hall uses the image of a ritual bronze vessel in its architecture and contains multimedia and 3D exhibitions. It works well after the core walking section. The hall is closed on Mondays, so avoid that day if the exhibition is important to your plan.
Bird Paradise and the mountain route
Bird Paradise mainly has free-roaming peacocks, along with pelicans, large white geese and other birds. Families can make it one stop on the shuttle route. Mosquitoes and smells may be noticeable; follow the site's rules when feeding, photographing or approaching birds.
The 957 steps lead to a 21-metre Dayu bronze statue and views over Shaoxing and the mountains, but both the ascent and descent require stamina. Visitors with average fitness, young children or unsteady footing can stay with the level and memorial-hall route and view the statue from a distance.
Build your day
2-hour low-effort route
Enter through the Visitor Center, take the shuttle to Bird Paradise, continue to the Dayu Memorial Hall and then take the shuttle back toward the exit. This reduces walking and suits visitors with limited time or groups with older adults and children. If the memorial hall is closed on Monday, switch to the Sacred Way, Yu Sacrifice Square, the stele pavilion and other open areas.
3-4-hour complete route
Start at the Visitor Center and follow the Sacred Way, Yu Sacrifice Square, Dayu Mausoleum Stele Pavilion, Yu Shrine and Yu Temple. According to your stamina, choose whether to climb the 957 steps to the Dayu bronze statue. Descend by the same route, then continue to the Dayu Memorial Hall and Bird Paradise before leaving. The climb takes considerable time; the shuttle connects sections but cannot replace the mountain trail.
4-5-hour hiking extension
After completing the core mausoleum and summit route, outdoor enthusiasts can consider nearby Xianglu Peak. Xianglu Peak requires separate estimates for transport, hiking time and the return trip, and should not be combined with the Dayu Mausoleum ticket, shuttle or core route.
Get there
Buses, taxis and driving
Buses 2, 68, 177 and the Dayu sightseeing line can reach Dayu Mausoleum Station. A taxi from central Shaoxing or Lu Xun Native Place takes about 15-20 minutes. If driving, navigate to the Dayu Mausoleum Scenic Area parking lot; spaces are usually available, with a reference price of RMB 10 per visit for up to 4 hours.
After arriving, go to the Visitor Center to handle tickets, reservations and the shuttle arrangement, then decide between the level route, mountain climb and Bird Paradise. The sections are far apart, so do not treat a shuttle drop-off point as the entrance to the summit.
Transport inside the scenic area
The shuttle connects designated stops including the Visitor Center, Memorial Hall, Square and Bird Paradise. Its price and stops follow the on-site arrangements. The Dayu bronze statue is on the summit; the shuttle does not reach it directly, so climbers still need to walk up the 957 steps and return by the same trail.
Know before you go
Stamina, mosquitoes and supplies
Food choices inside are limited. There are simple meals near the memorial hall, but supplies are not extensive, so buy water and snacks at the Visitor Center first. Mosquitoes and smells can be noticeable at Bird Paradise; bring repellent and keep a suitable distance from the birds.
The 957 steps are the most demanding section of the complete route, and stone steps may be slippery in rain. Groups with babies, older adults or anyone with unsteady mobility should prioritize level paths and the shuttle rather than forcing everyone to climb.
Temporary closures and drones
Around the Grain Rain solar term each year, the site may hold a public ceremony for Dayu and close temporarily for one day, with a drone no-fly restriction. Confirm whether there is an event, closure or flight restriction before travelling; if the site is closed, choose another Shaoxing cultural attraction.
The Dayu Memorial Hall is closed on Mondays and the mountain path closes at 17:00, so leave enough time for entry and the return descent. Wupeng boats, stamp collecting and bird feeding inside the area are arranged separately; confirm boat prices, bird feed and activity status on-site.
