The lake section within the Keyan system
Jian Lake is at No. 558 Keyan Avenue in Keqiao District, Shaoxing. It is the core water area and sightseeing section of Keyan Scenic Area. The usual entrance is the Keyan Visitor Center, though entry from the Luzhen side may also be possible. Jian Lake does not normally have a separate lake-only ticket or parking system; access is usually through the Keyan-Jian Lake-painted sightseeing boat combo ticket, with an adult reference price of RMB 90. Luzhen's street area is marked as free, but connections and ticket checks still follow the day's arrangements.
Allow 2-3 hours for Jian Lake, focusing on the Ancient Towpath, White Jade Causeway, Huluzui Island and the painted sightseeing boat between areas. The scenic area is open 8:00-17:00, with last entry at around 16:30; follow the on-site notice.
Water transport and walking range
The painted sightseeing boat in the combo ticket usually provides the main water transport between Keyan, Jian Lake and Luzhen. Wupeng boats are charged separately, with a reference price of RMB 35 per person. Treat Jian Lake as a lake and water-route visit: parking, ticket checks and entrances still use the Keyan scenic-area system.

Ancient Towpath and White Jade Causeway
Jian Lake suits visitors who want broad lake views, traces of ancient waterways and open Jiangnan water-town scenery. The Jian Lake Ancient Towpath is a stone-paved causeway built close to the water, while the White Jade Causeway is useful for seeing the depth of the lake. Both require walking on stone paving, so slow down in wet weather.
The Ancient Towpath is the main walking highlight of the lake area. Huluzui Island offers a short stop and huangjiu-related cultural content. Facilities and activities on the island may change according to the day's opening status; tastings, food service and the exact photography conditions should all be confirmed on-site.
Lake views, rocks and the sightseeing boat
Although the Jian Lake page focuses on the water, Keyan's rocks, Tiangong Buddha and Yun Bone belong to the same scenic-area system and can be visited before or after the lake section. The painted sightseeing boat lets visitors view the rock walls, causeways and water-town scenery from the lake and mainly connects Keyan, Jian Lake and Luzhen; it is usually part of the combo-ticket water transport. A Wupeng boat is a separate paid water experience, so the two are different activities and should be confirmed separately when buying tickets.
Build your day
2-hour lake route
Enter from Keyan, pass Yun Bone and Tiangong Buddha, then take the painted sightseeing boat from Baichuan Pier toward Jian Lake. Walk the Ancient Towpath and White Jade Causeway, stop briefly at Huluzui Island, and then follow the boat schedule toward Luzhen or back to the exit. With limited time, focus on lake walking and the combo-ticket boat, and reduce optional paid activities.
3-4-hour complete route
First-time visitors can follow the sequence of the Keyan entrance, Yun Bone, Tiangong Buddha, Puzhao Temple, Seven Star Rock, Baichuan Pier, the painted sightseeing boat, the Jian Lake Ancient Towpath, Huluzui Island, Luzhen's double-sided stage and the exit. The Ancient Towpath and White Jade Causeway require walking, so estimate your group's stamina and include boat waits and lakeside stops in the schedule.
Reverse route for quieter periods
Enter from Luzhen, visit the town first, then take the painted sightseeing boat from the Luzhen Theatre Pier to the Jian Lake Wine Island Pier. Walk the Ancient Towpath and continue toward the Keyan exit. This route depends on the day's boat schedule, ticket checks and land connections. If a passage is closed, return to an available pier or switch to the forward route.
Get there
Buses, metro and parking
Buses 805, 817, 818 and the Jian Lake special line can reach Keyan Scenic Area Station. Take Shaoxing Metro Line 1 to Mingzhu Square Station or Guazhu Lake Station, then take a taxi for about 10-15 minutes. If driving, use parking area 2 or 3 at Keyan Scenic Area; spaces are usually more available.
Jian Lake has no independent lake-area parking entrance. Use the Keyan Scenic Area Visitor Center or the corresponding parking area in navigation. Luzhen can serve as a reverse entrance, but first confirm that entry from that direction and the water connection are operating on the day.
Boat and lakeside walking
The painted sightseeing boat is an important transport link in a Jian Lake visit. Whether it is included in the combo ticket, the pier location and the operating direction should follow the day's ticket information and on-site signs. Wupeng boats are a separate paid experience, while the Ancient Towpath and White Jade Causeway must be walked; a boat cannot replace the entire shore route.
Know before you go
Ticket boundaries
Jian Lake is usually entered through the Keyan-Jian Lake-painted sightseeing boat combo ticket, and a separate lake-only ticket is not generally available. The free label for Luzhen's street area does not mean every connection between areas is freely passable; reverse entrances, bridges and boat schedules may still require on-site ticket checks.
Surfaces, weather and activities
The Ancient Towpath has narrow stone paving and can be slippery in rain. Keep away from the edge by the lake and follow the railings and staff instructions. Visitor numbers may increase after 9:00 on holidays, so an early start makes the towpath easier to walk. In rain, strong wind or changing water operations, keep a safe shore route as the priority.
The glass walkway costs about RMB 20 by reference, and Wupeng boats are also charged separately. Boat schedules, performances, food service and island activities may change by date. Supplies inside the area are limited, so bring water and simple snacks; if an activity closes or the queue becomes too long, shorten the route to the Ancient Towpath and White Jade Causeway.
